TopTips- For Guiding your Teenager through the January Blues

January is a tough month for most of us, as the festivities fade and routines take hold again. For teenagers, it can often be a diffi- cult month as exam stress is added on to general teenage ups and downs. Below are some conversation points that you might find useful in supporting your teenager around this time of the year: Reasonable resolutions: Talk about attainable goals to try and min- imise pressure. If ‘losing weight’ or ‘getting 500 points in the Le av i n g’are on your teenager’s list of resolutions, help to break them down. Maybe talk about adopting some new healthy lifestyle habits, such as no junk food on school days and walks as a family a couple of evenings a week. In terms of study goals, maybe something as simple as agreeing to have their phone in another room while doing homework is achievable, and will give your child a sense of achievement. Daylight: January is a long, dark month. Encourage getting out in daylight as much as possible. Walking to school (or half way) and er- rands that involve strolling to the local shop are small but significant opportunities for fresh air and some sunshine. Exercise: Place an obvious value on movement and physical health. You can role model this by taking walks together, and maybe swim- ming a few evenings a week. Encourage your teenager to counter act the hours spent on chairs in school and studying with regular movement and stretching. Read for pleasure: Textbooks and social media account for most of your teenager’s reading so try to nurture the love of reading for pleasure. As well as stimulating their imagination, a good book provides your child with headspace and an escape route from boredom and stress. IN MEMORIAM ✝

FITZPATRICK (29th Anniversary)

In loving memory of our dear dad, grandad and great grandad Michael Fitzpatrick, late of 9 Yeats Avenue, Kincora Park, who died on January 16th 1989. Aged 62 years. Mass offered. Our Dad. Our Dad was so special, good, kind and so very sincere, who is gone 29 years now, still we miss him, wishing he was still here. You see our Dad was a very unique man, a very gentle heart and soul who did nothing for himself, only us his family lovingly so dear. He has left a legacy of nothing but goodness, so he lives on through us and through his grandkids and greatgrandkids, he is never really gone. Memorial Card Service The 5th of December 1988 is a day we never forget, we got the awful news, 6 weeks they said Dad on what was your first visit to a Doctor ever. Yo u never left on that you knew, you just smiled and said, I'll be better, we all were in shook not Memoriam Cards -traditional &modern knowing what to do, heart broken over you, after working all your life in C.I.E, now was supposed to be your time, your time to relax and go about your life, happy with us family. We cared for you in our home, we looked after Bookmarks, Memento cards your every need, we took turns to hold your hand as you would peacefully fall asleep. The tears in our eyes praying you would wake as the sun did rise, the dignity that you showed, we &Acknowledgementcards will never forget it was us that was so upset. When your time came you looked around to see us all, you left as you lived, quietly, peacefully when you got the call While we all were so lost, we felt so little and small, as you were our anchor, without you we would fall, but no, we stood proud and you for friendly, helpful and convenient service, would have wished for so, rest as you lived dad with love and peace forever.xxxx Always in our hearts Dad, from your sons Denis and Michael, daughters Noreen, Breda, Marytina, pop in to our officeat54 O’Connell Street Pauline, Caroline and their families. or ring 061 214500 for our latestbrochure. ✝
