Why Not Visit Our Website On THE LORD IS MY SHEPHERD (PSALM 23) This was recently sent to me as a joke for use as compere of the Moira Male Voice Choir.: “A Sunday school teacher wants the class to learn a Psalm, so they can recite to the congregation in 4 weeks’ time. So she chooses Psalm 23. The children take the words home with all good intention of learning them. Little Johnny can’t get beyond the first line. So cometh the day, cometh little Johnny. He stands up and says the following “The Lord is my Shepherd, and that is all I know” It’s not a funny story, but it is true. He is our Shepherd, walking alongside of us and preparing the way. If we put our trust in him He will provide for us throughout life’s journey. The important issue for me is that we have to recognise him, in all we see and do. There is so much out there to remind us of His presence. But equally we need to let him know how we are feeling in body, mind and spirit. A great way to do that is in prayer, which sometimes we find difficult. I enjoy going to Measham for morning pray at 9.00 am, it’s short but very meaningful and I would recommend it to anyone. It sets you up for the day. Talking about being set up, later this month we will all have the opportunity to learn how to engage a little more in prayer. How you might ask?? Through our TEAM WEEKEND - “PRAYER & PARTY”. I think it is a cracking title, to think we can pray and party together. Archdeacon David Newman is coming to join us to lead us, using the Lord’s Prayer, as a theme. Vivien will take us on a prayer walk, because as we circumnavigate the countryside we can even offer up our prayers of thanksgiving. There will be social times together, including Bacon Butties, and a BBQ. So you see it will be fun and a time for us to get together and learn a little more about prayer. David’s theme of the Lord’s Prayer excites me, in as much, little Johnny didn’t know Psalm 23, but put his slant on it. Yet we know the Lord’s Prayer, almost parrot fashion and probably need to put our slant on it by understanding it a little more. So, as they say “Don’t be square, be there”. Come and join in the fun, fellowship and learn together. Remember Jesus 2012, the subsequent Team Weekend, they all seemed onerous!!! Yet we enjoyed them and looked back and found we got a great deal out of it. So allow the Shepherd to guide you in this adventure, knowing He will provide something for you. Alleluia He is Risen indeed!! Barry EVENTS AT ST JOHNS AND ACROSS THE TEAM THIS MONTH AND BEYOND ST JOHN’S CHURCH - ANNUAL MEETING. It’s the time of year for our church annual meeting. MEASHAM & DISTRICT COMMUNITY LIBRARY A lot of hard work has been going on in the background and we are pleased to announce that we are still on schedule for taking over the running of the library from Leicestershire County Council. The handover is scheduled for June this year. We have a great new logo, designed by 10 year old Alice Hine from Appleby Magna and lots of ideas to make the Library the heart of the community, including serving hot beverages and extended opening hours. We really need to start to get together a list of volunteers, so we can start to organise rotas and training, therefore we are arranging some drop in sessions at the library. If you would like to volunteer in any capacity or just want to find out more, please call in to the library on either of the following dates for an informal chat: Tuesday 12th April between 3 - 5pm or Friday 15th April between 10am - 12 Everyone is welcome whether you can commit 1 session a week or 1 session a month. Keep in touch! Our email address is " [email protected]" and our fantastic new website is now up and running at " www.meashamlibrary.org" and we are also on Facebook & Twitter - search "Measham Library" MOIRA & ALBERT VILLAGE’S BIG TIDY UP The days are lengthening and the buds are beginning to burst so spring is on the way. A good time to think about spring-cleaning: not just around the house and garden but giving the village a spring clean too. As last year another ‘BIG TIDY UP’ is being planned for the Ashby Woulds area.

  • The Magazine for the Parish of Ss Peter & Paul, with St Michael And
The magazine for the parish of Ss Peter & Paul, with St Michael and All Angels, Kettering 2 From Your Rector David writes: Half of the church's calendar is taken up with 'Festival' and other special seasons, marking the great events in the Christian story. The other half is what we call 'Ordinary Time'. This divides the Christian year fairly neatly into two distinct halves, with one exception. For just a few weeks in February, we have a brief taste of Ordinary Time in the middle of what is otherwise an uninterrupted run of special seasons: Advent, Christmas, Epiphany, Lent and Easter. But soon Lent will be with us. It is a special time of the year, a time to reflect on our lives and our faith. As a parish, we will be reflecting on what it means to be a follower of Jesus. There is no one way to follow Jesus. Part of the delight of being in a church is to see people working out for themselves in such different ways how to respond to the words 'follow me'. Yet as we wrestle with what this means for us, we can be inspired and we can learn: from other Christians, from some of the remarkable women and men who have been on this journey before us. This year as a parish we are taking as our guide and teacher the former Archbishop of Canterbury, Rowan Williams, whose book 'Being Disciples' I encourage you to get hold of and read. We have copies of the book for those of you joining our Tuesday evening and Wednesday lunchtime discussion groups during Lent.

  • THE GOOD SHEPHERD CHURCH Loughborough
The Diocese of Leicester THE GOOD SHEPHERD CHURCH Loughborough Annual Report of the Parochial Church Council 2017 2 AIMS AND PURPOSES The Good Shepherd Parochial Church Council (PCC) has the responsibility of cooperating with the incumbent, the Reverend Susan Willetts, in promoting within the ecclesiastical parish, the whole mission of the Church, pastoral, evangelistic, social and ecumenical. The PCC is also specifically responsible for the maintenance of the Good Shepherd Church and Church Hall in Park Road, Loughborough. Each year our annual report affords us the opportunity to look back over the past year and review what has happened in the life of the Church and our community. The following pages give a glimpse into the life of the Good Shepherd as we journey together. OBJECTIVES The PCC is committed to enabling as many people as possible to worship at our church and to become part of our parish community at The Good Shepherd. The PCC maintains an overview of our worship and endeavours to see how our services can involve the many groups that live within our parish. We endeavour that all our services and worship put faith into practice through prayer and scripture, music and sacrament. When planning our activities for the year we try to enable ordinary people to live out their faith as part of our parish community through: • Worship and prayer; learning about the Gospel; and developing their knowledge and trust in Jesus • Provision of pastoral care for people living in the parish • Mission and outreach work To facilitate this work, it is important that we maintain the fabric of our Church and the Church Hall.

MOVING ON! Life will soon return to normal, no more blinding flashes of pink to make you wonder whether or not your eyes are playing up. Yes, in case you hadn’t heard I have a job! I’m off to the Diocese of Lichfield, to three villages in North Shropshire; Baschurch, Weston Lullingfields and Hordley; but not until after Christmas. The biggest of the three is the village of Baschurch, which lies 8 miles North West of Shrewsbury and 10 miles from Oswestry, this is the village where we will live. The church seats 350 people, has 8 bells, a bell ringing team, and a robed choir. In the village there is a Church of England Primary School and a Secondary School and on the edge of the village is an Agricultural College. The other two villages, Weston Lullingfields and Hordley are smaller in size, with populations of around 250. There is a small Church of England Primary school at Weston with 31 pupils, and Hordley the furthest north of the three villages is nearer to Ellesmere than Shrewsbury. The challenge for the Churches in these villages is not unlike here, to make the links with the communities in which they are situated. There are many opportunities to be involved with the youth and the communities as a whole and we shall be embracing those opportunities as a family. I will be a governor to both Primary Schools and will be involved in weekly acts of worship and teaching. More established links are needed with the Secondary School and the Uniformed Organisations.
