As Governor of the State of Illinois, it is my pleasure to welcome everyone gathered for the Murphysboro Apple Festival. Celebrating “Orchard of Dreams” this year, the Murphysboro Apple Festival is the longest continuous running festival in southern Illinois and features the largest parade in the region. With attendance expected to exceed 45,000 over the five-day period, and events ranging from an arts and crafts fair to the Appletime 5K Run/Walk, this promises to be an enjoyable occasion for everyone in attendance. This annual tradition also displays a commitment to community service which is commendable. Thanks to the goodwill of everyone in attendance, many community organizations will benefit from a share of the proceeds, including the Murphysboro Chamber of Commerce, Kiwanis, and various other civic non-profit organizations. The family-oriented Apple Festival is a charitable and time-honored tradition, synonymous with Murphysboro’s good name. On behalf of the people of Illinois, I offer my best wishes for an enjoyable and memorable event.
