Who We Are UWC ISAK is a coeducational boarding school, serving students in G10-12, located in the temperate mountain forests of Karuizawa, Japan. We are the 17th United World College.

UWC ISAK Japan’s unique identity within the UWC Movement At UWC ISAK Japan we empower each other to be transformational leaders who explore new frontiers and make a positive impact today and in the future. Leadership training and opportunities for students are integrated throughout, from G10 classes to the programme to social entrepreneurship to policy making within the school itself. What We Do School Evolution 2014-15 Founded under the name of International Leadership School of Asia, Karuizawa (ISAK) The Leadership programme is integral to the UWC ISAK School Enrollment opens with 58 G10 students experience: 2016-17 First graduating class of 52 students G10 Leading Self class (Mindful Self-Discipline) 2017-18 ISAK becomes UWC ISAK Japan First group of Leading with Others class (Design Innovation) 35 G11 students welcomed from National Committee selection G11 Leadership Essentials (for new G11 students) 2018 Enrollment reaches capacity 2019 G11-12 Leadership Projects in Social Entrepreneurship First graduating UWC class (72 students) Outdoor Education, Team Building & Leadership Student initiated & Student run activities Today • Total enrollment 197 students Outdoor Education • 83 nationalities represented All students participate in the outdoor education program at UWC • 42 Japanese students, 158 International students ISAK Japan, via our philosophy that all our students must be • 100% of our student’s board on campus learning in, for, and about the outdoors in the local environment. • G10 class 47 students, all admitted by UWC ISAK Admissions o 29 nationalities represented Curriculum and Academic Pathways o 14 Japanese students, 33 international students • G11 class 80 students • Grade 10: in-house curriculum of pre-IB courses o 37 students admitted by UWC ISAK Admissions • Grade 11 and 12: all classes use the IBDP curriculum o 43 students admitted by UWC National Committees • UWC ISAK Japan pathway: Students take a combination • G12 class 72 students of IB classes, research essay and TOK that also meet the o 32 students admitted by UWC ISAK Admissions requirements of the Japanese Ministry of Education’s o 40 students admitted by UWC National Committees MEXT High School Diploma. • 143 of 197 students receiving Financial Aid • IBDP pathway: Students meet all requirements of the IB o 17 students receiving less than 50% aid Diploma Programme o 81 students receiving between 50-99% aid o 45 students receiving 100%+ aid • Total faculty 44 o 13 nationalities represented o Half of our faculty board on campus
