Spin City Johnny and the Spinsations play feel-good classics from the 50s and 60s because that is the music we love. And because we love it, The Spinsations and I strive to perform the songs faithfully to the originals. Much of what they play you won’t hear from any other band in town. Who else plays songs by Sam Cooke, Roy Orbison, Herman’s Hermits, The Monkees, The Hollies and Paul Revere and the Raiders, right alongside Elvis and The Beatles? And the band even plays them on period-appropriate instruments, such as Ricken- backer and Gretsch guitars, to get just the right sound. After that sucessful event in November 2008, the group decided to keep going, primarily performing at charity events and hospitals but also making several radio and TV appearances. On January Lead vocalist30, Jon2009, theBouche group staged a recreation of the Beatles rooftop concert - one of only a few nationally. In late 2009, the band detached from the Love Street nonprofit and briefly adopted a more psychedelic persona. Freed from sharing its name with a charity (though its members remain heavily involved), the band, then known as Tie-Dye Sky, performed in local venues such as Fitzgeralds. By early 2010, Jon and Patrick had developed a strong desire to take the band more seriously. This led to a new emphasis on danceable, feelgood oldies of the 50s and 60s and the need for a new name. Patrick initially coined “The Spinsations” but felt that it lacked something. Over Jon’s protests that he hates being called Johnny, the band became “Johnny and the Spinsations.” Lead guitar player and Houston music-scene veteran David Marshall joined the band in August 2010, following an open auditon. His son Ethan then was recruited to play drums, but soon switched to bass. Following another open audition for a drummer, Danny Patterson completed the lineup. These five guys actually like each other, which they think makes a Spinsations performance more fun for band and audience alike. Growing up in a house where his father was a professional musician made it very easy for Jay to follow in his dad’s footsteps. It was no surprise that Jay had an ear for music but, at the early age of three, his mom put on a record of Elvis Presley singing ‘Hound Dog’. As he listened, his eyes lit up and his hips started to move as he smiled with excitement. Begging his mom to play it over and over, Jay became a huge fan of the King of Rock ‘n Roll. Shortly after, Jay would put on performances for his parents, family and friends at social gatherings. “I would put on white pants and a white dress shirt to mimic a jumpsuit, flip up my collar, pretend I was the King and put on a show in my parents living room. I was never shy.” When Jay wasn’t imitating Elvis, he was doing extensive studio work, surrounded by professional musicians, or on stage performing in front of live audiences. Elvis has always been one of the biggest influences in his life and entertaining career, he can’t remember a time where he wasn’t an Elvis fan.

INFORMATION Johnny Burnette died in 1964 after scoring several pop hits in the early Sixties, including Dreamin', You're Sixteen, and Little Boy Sad. If, in the days or weeks before his death, he had been asked how he would be remembered, he would probably have said for those hits or for the songs he'd written for Ricky Nelson. And he would have been wrong. Today, Johnny Burnette is chiefly remembered for some sessions he cut in 1956 that resulted in no hits, but just about defined rockabilly as an art-form – in fact as a new musical life-form. This album, one of the first-ever rockabilly LPs, is still the best-ever rockabilly LP. From the early 1960s, collectors were paying big money for it.
