Richmond has struggled in their division in the first half of the season playing to a 20-29 record in division games. The 7/5 vs AKR L (4-5) Flying Squirrels have the worst “in-devision” record in the Eastern League sitting 9 games below in the West. 7/6 vs AKR L (3-4) 7/7 vs AKR W (6-2) 7/8 vs AKR W (2-1) Slammin’ Jerry Sands: 7/9 All-Star Break + Squirrels first baseman Jerry Sands took home the Eastern League Player of the Week award from his play between July 2nd and 7/10 All-Star Break July 8th. The 30-year old hit .429 (9-for-21) with five doubles, two home runs, five RBIs, six runs scored, two walks, and a .952 slugging 7/11 All-Star Break percentage in six games last week. Sands becomes the first Squirrels player to take home a weekly award this season and the first 7/12 @TRN since RHP Cory Taylor did so July 24-30 last year. In May, the team fell off a bit playing to a 12-14 record while pitching to a 4.13 ERA, the highest single-month team ERA 7/19 @AKR this season. The offense improved mightily in June exploding for a single-month high 63 doubles and six triples. 15 different Squirrels 7/20 @AKR had at least two doubles in June and five players with five or more doubles. But despite, the offensive success, the Squirrels still played 7/21 @AKR to a .500 record in June (15-15) and finished the first half of the season with a 43-44 record and 7.0 games back from first place 7/22 @AKR 7/23 @ERI Akron The Squirrels skidded into the All-Star Break losing the first six straight games in the month of July but recovered winning the 7/24 @ERI last two before the break. 7/25 @ERI 7/26 vs REA Patient First Injury Update: 7/27 vs REA The Flying Squirrels have dealt with their fair share of injuries in the month of June. Jonah Arenado returned from a 32 game absence 7/28 vs REA (shoulder) on 6/7. RHP Cory Taylor was placed on the DL (arm) the same day Arenado returned. Taylor was shipped out to Arizona 7/29 vs REA to rehab the injury on Monday. Shortstop Ryan Howard tweaked a hamstring in the final inning of the contest on 6/10 and RHP 7/30 OFF DAY Chase Johnson was struck by a line drive while in the dugout on 6/14. Howard returned on 6/24 after missing 13 games. Ronnie 7/31 @ NH Jebavy was also injured and returned on 6/24 after missing eight games with a hamstring issue but was placed back on the DL three days later.
