Proper assembly, installation and maintenance are essential if the benefits of your Andersen product are to be fully attained. Therefore, please read and follow this instruction guide completely. If your abilities do not match this procedure’s requirements, contact an experienced contractor. Every assembly and installation is different (windloads, structural support, etc.). Unless specifically ordered, Andersen windows are not equipped with safety glass, and if broken, could fragment causing injury. Many laws and building codes require safety glass in locations adjacent to or near doors. Andersen windows are available with safety glass that may reduce the likelihood of injury when broken. Information on safety glass is available from your local Andersen dealer.

• Factory supplied Head Flashing and Installation Flanges DO NOT take the place of standard window and door flashing. Unit must be properly flashed and sealed with silicone for protection against water and air infiltration. Use non- reflective flashings. • Do not apply any type of film to glass. Thermal stress conditions resulting in glass damage could occur. • Use of movable insulating materials such as window coverings, shutters, and other shading devices may damage glass and/or vinyl. In addition, excessive condensation may result causing deterioration of windows and doors.

1. Unit Preparation

DO NOT open unit until secured in opening. Twisted frame may result causing product performance problems.

• Remove unit from packaging being careful not to damage unit. Place unit interior side up on Interior Side Up clean, flat work surface. Remove Insect Screen.

2. Prepare Rough Opening

• Size of rough opening should allow 1/4" Rough Rough Opening clearance around unit, between unit frame and Opening Width rough opening. 4. Install Unit

Windows and doors can be heavy. Use safe lifting techniques and a reasonable number of people with enough strength to lift, carry and install window and door products to avoid injury and/or product damage.

Brickmould Installation A minimum space of 1/4" is required around exterior Clip perimeter of unit between frame and siding. Masonry/ Brick Veneer installations require a minimum 1/2" space along sill and 1/4" space around the remaining 3/8" Bead Sealant perimeter. • Insert shims between frame and rough opening along side Interior jambs, just above or below Installation Clips. • Bend and secure Installation Clip to masonry, wood buck, or Wood wood blocking using #10 x 1-1/2" screws. If Installation Blocking Clips are being secured directly to masonry, predrill hole and use masonry screws. • Recheck plumb, level, and square of unit. Adjust shims as Exterior needed. Interior • Predrill 3/16" holes through unit side jambs 4" from each corner #10 x 2-1/2" Screw and every 16" between. • Insert shims between frame and rough opening near 3/16" holes. • Check plumb, level and square of unit. 6. Check Clearance and Operation Head • Install temporary operator and temporary lock handle. Sash Spacer • Open sash completely and remove Sash Spacer Blocks from Block around sash. Hinge • Determine if clearance and operation are correct. 7. Insulate Unit

When insulating between unit frame and rough opening, or Putty Knife between units when joining, DO NOT overpack batt insulation Insulation or overfill with expandable foam. Bowed jambs may result causing product performance problems. Follow insulation manufacturer’s instructions.

5 Installation Guide 8. Apply Exterior Finish and Seal

Exterior Finish A minimum space of 1/4" is required around exterior (Brick) perimeter of unit between frame and siding.
