By merging light and sound sine waves, parameters such as frequency, amplitude and spatialization have been mapped into three sound wave generators or voices (bass line, harmonies and lead) and three waveforms from a modular video synthesizer on MaxMSP aiming to audiovisual synchronicity and equivalence. Jordan Dykstra “Within, Outside, and Beside Itself: The Architecture of the CFA” A performance which plays not only with the idea of lecture-performance as a musicological extension of history, narrative, and academic performance-composition Within, Outside, and Beside Itself: The Architecture of the CFA also addresses how the presenta- tion of knowledge is linked to the production of knowledge through performance. I believe that creating space for new connections through creative presentation and alternative methodologies can both foster new arenas for discussion and coordinate existing relationships between academia and the outside world. A critique regarding how the Center for the Arts at Wesleyan University func- tions as an academic institution, as well as its physical role as the third teacher, my lecture performance playfully harmonizes texts from art historians at Wesleyan University, archaeologists, critical theorists, YouTube transcriptions, quotes from the founder of the Reggio Emilia school, and medical journal articles about mirror neurons.

The first four songs — “Woman,” “Naked,” “Payday” with Young Thug and “Get Into It (Yuh)” — are half-baked tunes mimicking beats and vocals from Nicki Minaj or Rihanna. None are note- worthy. It’s depressing. What happened to the artist behind 2019s “Hot Pink,” a sonic breath of fresh air? What happened to the Doja Cat whose electric performance of “Say So” at the Grammys was reminiscent of Missy Elliott’s futurism? Just wait. The fi fth song, “Need to Know,” is a superb, steamy sex tape of a song (with Dr. Luke co-writing and producing) and the sixth, “I Don’t Do Drugs” featuring Ariana Grande, is airy and confi dent with heav- enly harmonies. “Love to Dream” follows, a slice of dreamy pop, and then The Weeknd stops by on a terrifi c, slow-burning “You Right.” Cat The Cat is back. This was inspired by the Cut-Up technique, an aleatory literary technique where a written text is cut up word-by-word and then completely rearranged, resulting in a new text. This technique can be traced back to the Dadaists in the 1920s, a group of avant-garde artists located primarily in Europe. Since then, the Cut-Up technique has been used in a variety of other contexts. On our pages, we have taken a popular song from each artist, then used the Dadaist cut-up technique to scramble the lyrics and create a new text. We chose to do this to pay homage to and remind us of the avant-garde artists and the history of avant-garde zines. So, if you would like, take a shot at guessing the songs.
