Ixtapa, a carefully planned resort was developed in 1972, it's located on "Playa del Palmar" a two-mile long stretch of beautiful white sand, home to several world-class hotels, condominium resorts, golf courses and a modern marina with slips for 600 vessels.The resort also has shopping malls, excellent boutiques, jewelry stores, handicraft shops and a nautical atmosphere. On the other hand, Zihuatanejo is a fishing village in a lovely bay that offers visitors the opportunity to see the more traditional side of Mexico. The original Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo is just three-hour drive from Acapulco and 40-minute flight name was Cihuatlán which means "land of women" in nahuatl, because the from México City. It has multiple facilities including car rental desks, a restaurant and "duty-free" shops. There are non-stop flights from Mexico City, Toluca, Los Angeles, Houston, Phoenix, Vancouver and Calgary. During the winter season the number of flights increases. BY CAR Federal highway 200 connects Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo with Acapulco, where modern “Autopista del Sol” connects with Mexico City. The driving distance between Mexico City and Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo is 637 kilómetros (396 miles). An alternate route and relatively faster between Mexico City and Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo is through Morelia with 667 km (414 mi), in the Autopista Siglo XXI. It provides the most relevant information about the 54 archeological sites discovered in the “Costa Grande” area where there are traces of the Olmec, Teotihuacan, Tarascan and Mexica cultures. Open from 10:00 to 18:00 hrs. Parque Aventura – This is a ranch surrounded by lush vegetation with exotic animals in ther natural habitat. The adventure consists in a walk in the trees from 4 to 9 meters (13 to 26 feet) altitude, going threw by different techniques: a hung bridge, a liana, a footbridge, rocking trunks, to finish flying threw the trees by zip-line. Open daily in high season and during the weekends the rest of the year, from 10:00 to 17:00 hrs. Parque Acuático “Magic World” - It has a number of swimming pools, waterslides, a pirate ship, a village, toboggans, jacuzzies and many other fun things to do for kids. Contents can not be 5 reproduced for commercial purposes. www.visitmexico.com Ixtapa- Zihuatanejo Tourist Attactios Ecoturistic Park "The Chanequera" - Here you can take a tour aboard a “trajinera” (small boats normally rowed or poled) through the estuary. The park is a reserve and spans about 50 hectares (123 acres) of mangrove, and is ideal for nature lovers. There is a wide variety of birds, and you will also see iguanas and crocodiles. The ride lasts approximately an hour and a half. El Refugio de Potosí – This is a center for wildlife conservation and environmental education located just one mile from Playa Blanca and 15 miles from Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo. The park's vegetation mostly consists of tropical forest with a high number of endemic species of plants, reptiles, mammals and invertebrates. The ecological park features: An Observation Tower 15 meters high with a panoramic view; a Tropical Trail, where you can see native plants; a butterfly farm with ponds, King of Kings – There is a submerge bronze sculpture of a Christ King streams and waterfalls; an iguana sanctuary, with green and black in the waters of Ixtapa-Zihutanejo. It was made with keys collected in iguanas; a Macaw Sanctuary wtih a wildlife pond; and Hummingbirds the town.
