It’s hard to believe that this is our 18th year of bringing soccer coaches together to collaborate and learn. Over the years, we’ve enjoyed such a dynamic range of presenters, including Bruce Arena, Julie Foudy, the late Dick Bate, the late Sigi Schmid, Anson Dorrance, Amanda Cromwell and Erica Dambach, and, of course, our Clinic co-founder and great friend Tony DiCicco, whose passing we continue to mourn. Each of these coaches has inspired countless players, fans and coaches. Each was incredibly generous about sharing his/her knowledge with us. And each exhibited a passion for continuous learning, an openness to new approaches and ideas, and a drive for excellence that extends beyond the sport. This year brings a new and exciting crop of presenters who likewise share these characteristics. We are so excited to welcome them all, including United Soccer Coaches Director of Coaching Education Ian Barker, Two-Time NCAA Women’s National Champion Coach Mark Krikorian, Certified Mental Performance Consultant Dr. Tiffany Jones, two of college soccer’s rising coaching stars from two of the nation’s top programs - Wake Forest’s Men’s Coach Bobby Muuss and Notre Dame’s Men’s Coach Chad Riley, Past Southampton FC Coach & New Hartford Athletic Coach Radhi Jaïdi, U.S. Futsal National Staff Coach Everson Maciel, and World-Renowned Goalkeeper Coach Dan Gaspar, who coached in two World Cups, among others. Many of you are returning coaches. We hope that means we’re doing something right. For others, this is your first year here. We welcome you into the SCCC fold. You all should be commended on your decision to spend the next two days here, focused on becoming better at what you do and growing the game. We know getting away can be hard. We hope while you’re here, you’ll make some new connections, learn a lot, and have a really good time. We appreciate the support of our partners, including the United Soccer Coaches, the Connecticut Junior Soccer Association, and the United States Futsal Federation. We also thank our major sponsors for their support, including the Mohegan Sun Resort Casino, adidas, Soccer & Rugby, Jaypro Sports, Traveling Teams, the Ray Reid Soccer School, and The Coaches’ Insider. We thank all our attending exhibitors and encourage you to spend some quality time in our Exhibitor Zone. To get the most out of the event, don’t forget to download our interactive event app to keep track of sessions and receive up-to-date schedule changes, news and announcements. In closing, we hope you enjoy this year’s Clinic; and we sincerely welcome your input on making next year’s Soccer Champions Coaches’ Clinic even better. Yours in soccer and coaching, Ray Reid Rick Orluk www.SoccerChampionsClinic.com SOCCER CHAMPIONS EVENT SCHEDULE Thursday, February 20, 2020: TIME SESSION 2020 PRESENTER 2020 TOPIC LOCATION GENERAL EVENT REGISTRATION/CHECK-IN 4:30pm - • MLS: Five Things to Watch Post All-Star Game
MLS: Five Things to Watch Post All-Star Game Author : Steven Jotterand Tonight the soccer world turns to Chicago, Illinois. Well, sort of. MLS will field their best against the epic Real Madrid in a glorified exhibition match. This All-Star game signals a transition to the second half of the season. Clubs will begin to turn up the heat as the hunt for the Cup begins. Here are five things to look out for post the All-Star game: LA Galaxy & Orlando City’s Push: In 2016, the Seattle Sounders lost 12 of their first 20 games. Two days after their 12th loss, they sacked Sigi Schmid and hired Brian Schmetzer as interim. One day after naming their new man in charge, Seattle made a splash and signed creative Uruguayan midfielder Nicklas Lodeiro as a Designated Player. A club that was trending nowhere, changed their fortunes around. Within weeks, they were one of the most feared clubs in the league. The Sounders also went on to lift the MLS Cup. 1 / 3 The Galaxy are pretty much exactly in the same position heading into the All-Star Game as Sounders was in 2016. Having lost ten of the first 21 games and sitting in ninth in a weaker Western Conference, the board sacked Curt Onalfo, hired Sigi Schmid, and signed Mexican international attacking midfielder Jonathan dos Santos from Villarreal as a Designated player. Related Post: Orlando City SC: Upstart Lions Stalking and Devouring Their MLS Prey Struggling Orlando City did not sack their manager, but just pulled off the largest trades in MLS history for Dom Dwyer.
