Nocturnal surveys were carried out on the ponds within Forestry Commission ownership after a full daytime walkover search of the SSSI was conducted to identify their importance within the site. The surveys were repeated five times during the months of May and June 2002. Great Crested newts and other amphibians were found and other notable mammal bird and reptile species were noted.
