FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CHARLESTON, IL--Two area prep standouts, 6-11 Kevin Duckworth of Thornridge HS and 6-7 J. T. Coleman of Bloom Trail, have signed scholarships to attend Eastern Illinois University, Coach Rick Samuels announced.

"These were two of the most highly recruited players in the Chicago area • • • we have been recruiting them since day one so it's a real plus for our program to sign them," said Samuels.

At 6-11 Duckworth is the tallest player ever recruited by the Panthers. Averaging

19 points and 9.5 rebounds, he recently was a standout in the Chicago City-Suburban all-star game leading the suburbs with 16 points.

He was named the Harvey Star-Tribune 'Player of the Year', honorable mention all- state by the Champaign News-Gazette, special mention all-state by the Chicago Sun-Times and 4th team all-state by the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association.

Tuesday Duckworth was chosen as one of 12 players from the City-Suburban all-stars to meet a group of Indiana preps in another all-star game later this month.

"Offensively, he's ready to play," said Samuels. "He has a nice tou~h and gives us a legitimate post player. His size alone will cause problems for people around the basket."

Coleman, who averaged 24 points and 15 rebounds, was named the Most Valuable Plaver of the SICA-North Conference. He is an honorable mention all-stater by the Associated

Press, Chicago Sun-Times and Champaign News-Gazette plus being named to several all-area teams.

He also played Saturday in the City-Suburban game and will compete for the Class AA

North team in the Shrine All-Star game in June. He set 11 school scoring and rebounding records leading the south suburban area in scoring.

"J. T. made t remen d ous progress t hi s season and p1 ayed on a team that was mostly underclassmen so he saw a lot of doubleteaming," Samuels explained.
