A90/B9127 SLIP ROAD AT CONVERSION OF FOOTPATH TO SHARED PEDESTRIAN/CYCLE TRACK

REPORT BY THE DIRECTOR OF INFRASTRUCTURE SERVICES

ABSTRACT This report is to recommend that the Committee agree to the promotion of a Traffic Regulation Order to convert an existing length of footpath near Inverarity to cycletrack.

1 RECOMMENDATION

1.1 The Committee are asked to agree to the promotion of an Order to convert an existing lengths of footpath adjacent to the slip road from the A90 Dundee – Stonehaven Road to B9127 – Douglastown Road near Inverarity to shared pedestrian/cycle track in association with similar works being undertaken on the A90 Trunk Road.

2 INTRODUCTION

2.1 Bear on behalf of the Scottish Executive as Trunk Road Authority are carrying out works on the A90 Dundee – Stonehaven Road to upgrade certain lengths of footpath to cycletrack.

3 DETAILS

3.1 There is an existing length of footpath on the slip road from the A90 to the B9127 Arbroath – Douglastown Road near Inverarity and Bear have requested that this length of footpath be converted to cycletrack to tie into similar facilities adjacent to the Trunk Road. This is a statutory change only and does not require any physical alteration to the pathway, other than the provision of the necessary signage.

3.2 The affected lengths of footpath are shown on the attached plan.

4 FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS

4.1 The department will seek to recover the costs associated with this change from the Trunk Road Authority. Should this not prove possible then the costs will be subsumed within the Roads Revenue account 2006/07.

5 HUMAN RIGHTS IMPLICATIONS

There are no human rights implications arising from the proposals in this report. 2

6 CONSULTATION

6.1 The Chief Executive, Director of Corporate Services, Head of Finance and Head of Law and Administration were consulted in the preparation of this report.

7 CONCLUSION

7.1 In order to provide a continuous cycletrack provision linking to the Trunk Road cycletrack near Inverarity an existing section of footpath requires to be converted to cycletrack . The conversion of this existing footpath requires a formal Order. It is recommended that the committee agree to the promotion of the necessary Order.
