Introduction [1] This matter involves exceptions to two special pleas which introduce a novel Strategic Litigation Against Public Participation (SLAPP) defence. Redell, Davies and Cullinan are environmental attorneys. Cloete, Dlamini and Clarke are community activists. In the first set of special pleas the defendants allege that they had been SLAPPed in the context of environmental activism.
