Welcome to a new season at DKRFC! And to the 21st Century! Online Match Day Programme. At the start of this season we are experimenting with an Online Match Day Programme. This programme will be available on the

MATCHDAY PROGRAMME Friday prior to a home game so you can have a read before you come down. It is also compatible with a mobile phone! You can search www.dkrugby.co.uk hit the INFO tab then Match-Day programme or use the QR Code at the top of the page, this will also be displayed around the club on match days. The web address will remain the same all season so put it into your favourites! So why are we doing this? Well there are a few reasons: On a match day we see programmes left around, even before the kick-off! Online will reduce wastage. We pay a considerable amount of money for printing, Online costs nothing but time and effort. If details change after it has been sent to the printers, we can’t change it, with online we can make changes right up to kick off. Hard copy programmes are only available on the day, online will be available on the Friday and remain online until the following home game. However, we do understand that some people may not be able to access the online programme, so for a period of time a single A4 sheet will be available for those who want them. “Sport does not build character. It reveals it!!”

Good afternoon and welcome to Heathbrook for the first ever league fixture with our local neighbours Kidderminster Carolians (KC’s), since the inception of the league system for rugby over 25 years ago. It is great to see them climb to their highest ever league level after winning their play off final against Tamworth at the end of last season. Something we have failed to do in our last two attempts. Notwithstanding that, our visitors have had a difficult start to this, their 50th anniversary season, and unfortunately for them find themselves propping up the table without a win. Nothing will make them

MATCHDAY PROGRAMME happier than to add to our woes following our stumble last weekend at Kenilworth, and record their first league win of the season this afternoon. We need to be back to our best if we are to secure the five league points available, and keep in touch with pacesetters Stoke and Kenilworth. Over the years we have had a close relationship with Kidderminster through both playing and coaching. One of the first to join us was Duncan McLellan way back in the 70’s who was a formidable and uncompromising front row forward and played many times for the first team during his time at DK. He was followed nearly 20 years later by Mark Cleaton sometime around 1995 who immediately made a big impact by his unorthodox play from number 8. I will never forget his match winning try against Willenhall running a full 50 metres along the touch line handing off every defender who attempted to tackle him, to clinch our promotion in 1995 in Lockers second period as captain. There was a gap of a few years before we had an influx in the early naughties with Layton (Wilko) Wilkinson in 2000, followed shortly after by Andy McLellan (son of Duncan) and Stuart Such, all of whom made a big impact and contribution during their time with the club. Those of you who remember them from their time at DK will know how much they contributed to our success in our halcyon days in the early 2000’s for which we thank them once again. Its not always been one way traffic and it is great to see DK old boy Russ Gauden (really old - sorry Russ) still playing his part for KC’s where he has extended his playing career and if I’m not mistaken must be well on the wrong side of 40. On the non playing side, coaching is also a common link between the two clubs - Ian Bletcher (Bletch) coached DK in the early nineties before moving on to Kidderminster followed by a long spell working for RFU. He returned to KC’s recently as head coach, to continue his long association with them and is assisted by none other than Andy McClellan who is also playing today at the ripe old age of 40ish. Back to club matters. Many of you may not be aware that Brian & Mandy Platts we’re awarded the North club volunteers of the year last season - I cannot think of better recipients. As a reward they were nominated for the national awards at a gala dinner held at Twickenham stadium. As part of their trip they visited ’s training centre at Pennyhill Park before returning to Twickenham for a tour of the stadium followed by canapés and drinks on the pitch. The visit concluded with the gala dinner in the evening where the awards were presented to the national winners, but unfortunately not to be Mandy and Brian this year. As always they represented the club with distinction and who knows they may well be nominated in years to come in recognition of their dedicated service to this club. Congratulations to them both. As always we work hard as a club to include and recognise the amazing contribution of our youth section. Today is no different and our match day mascots are the DK U7's. together with their coaches James Ridout and Nick Biddlecombe, and team manager, Lisa Ridout The future is bright. The future is DeeKay!!!! So without any further adieu let that DK magic loose and enjoy your afternoon, support your team and irrespective of the result please join us after the game to enjoy traditional grass roots rugby hospitality.
