The Inkle loom is a small loom on which you can weave bands of various widths. The bands can be used for bracelets, key chains, belts, straps for instruments, hat bands or sewn together to make bags. The Inkle loom is a great inexpensive introduction to weaving.

In this class each student will complete a woven band and sew it into a keychain. Students will learn to warp the loom with a pre-cut warp, thread heddles, weave a band and complete the keychain. No weaving experience necessary. Weft Interlock, Clasped Weft, also known as Cleft Weft weaving is a weaving technique that will allow you to shift colors lengthwise along your warp to create unique shapes and patterns. This technique can be used on any loom. Not only will you learn the technique for Clasped weft weaving, you will also learn how to make a “heddle stick”, use a sword, and multiple shuttle sticks. Come learn the techniques for Plain weaving from the start to the finish. You will weave on a six inch “weave it” style loom making a 12 x 12 washcloth. The techniques you will learn may be applied to any size “weave it” style pin loom.

The first hour and a half will be devoted to instruction and weaving the first of 4 pin loom squares, in the second and third hour you will weave on your own, completing the three remaining squares.. Wagon Wheel rugs are made on a variety of round frames. The name refers to the spokes that appear in the design. These rugs are most often woven of heavier fabric so the tension on the loom does not become overwhelming.

Think texture, shape and color! In this wet felting class we’ll make a classic handbag with fold over flap.

Working with a resist, we’ll laminate cloth to one side of the bag for a textured self-lining created by differential shrinkage between wool and cloth. You’ll also create your own unique design on the outside. This process is a good introduction to 3D felting. Students should bring 15” x 1 yard (at a minimum) small bubble (3/16”) bubble wrap, 1/2 pool noodle, old stocking legs or elastic for ties, scissors, small container about 6 cup size, plastic bag for carrying wet projects home, hand towel.

Create a classy felted open work wrap using superfine Merino roving. It’s lightweight for all seasons, can be worn in multiple ways and has no limits to the number of colors used in its construction.

This class is a great introduction to wet felting or just a fun addition to the skills you already have. Once mastered the lattice technique can be used later for edging on bags, pillows or table runners.
