The Anaheim Hive: Sparking Collaboration and Empowering Nonprofits

As you walk through The Anaheim Hive, you can see investment and impact that is occurring throughout the city. From healthy, active lifestyles to youth empowerment and homeless prevention, The Anaheim Hive provides nonprofits access to space and partnerships cultivated only in Anaheim.

The Anaheim Hive is a shared space for community-based organizations to meet, work and collaborate. Nonprofit partners have access to common area desks, workstations, offices, conference meeting space, Wi-Fi and many other useful amenities, but it is the collaboration that exists beyond the shared work space that is creating positive impacts in Anaheim's neighborhoods.

Since opening its doors in August of this year, The Anaheim Hive has partnered with more than 15 local nonprofits that utilize the space for offices, meetings and, most importantly, opportunities to collaborate, learn and grow. One example is through Kid Healthy and Pure Game, two nonprofit partners. Pure Game encourages positive youth engagement through sports programs in local schools. Kid Healthy develops and implements health and wellness programs in Anaheim schools. Founded in 2003, the organization grew to Anaheim in 2014 with one Anaheim school and has grown over the years, now operating in 11 schools including Anaheim and Katella high schools.

Kid Healthy Executive Director Linda Luna-Franks attributes a significant amount of growth to The Anaheim Hive. “We were one of the first nonprofits to move into the space in August. Since then, we’ve added four more school programs to promote healthy nutrition, cooking, mental wellness and other community resources,” Luna-Franks said. “We are planning a partnership with Pure Game to teach soccer at schools that we work in. The Anaheim Hive has opened up doors for us to connect with other nonprofits, and helps us make powerful connections every day,” Luna-Franks said. Developed in partnership by the Anaheim Community Foundation, or ACF, and Samueli Foundation, both organizations have a shared commitment to philanthropy and growing collaboration. ACF Executive Director John Guastaferro and Samueli Foundation Director of Community Impact Victoria Torres worked together to develop and program the space. “The Samueli Foundation and Anaheim Ducks have been instrumental in strengthening ACF’s community impact and modeling the power of collaboration. In developing this space, we have also sparked further collaboration and capacity building among our nonprofit partners serving Anaheim,” Guastaferro said.

ACF has helped build and maintain a better Anaheim since 1984. ACF enriches the lives of Anaheim residents by addressing community needs, helping local nonprofits through grants and other opportunities, providing assistance through youth program scholarships and enhancing citywide programs and services.

The Samueli Foundation’s mission is to create societal value by investing in innovative, entrepreneurial and sustainable ideas. The foundation supports promoting scholastic, technical and creative achievement, building community sharing, increasing knowledge and opportunities, and enhancing the quality of life of the underserved.

“Real impact requires a collaborative effort of like-minded people. We have that in how the Samueli Foundation, and Anaheim Ducks operate. Our individual and collective objectives are clear…do good, do right and improve the lives of the people and communities we touch. We are proud to offer infrastructure support to ACF to make The Anaheim Hive possible for the nonprofits serving the Anaheim community. Most importantly, we believe in ACF, and the people of Anaheim, and their ability to work together to make a real difference,” Samueli Foundation Executive Director Gerald Solomon said.

The Anaheim Hive is open to local nonprofits. Organizations interested in collaborating can submit an interest form. For more information on The Anaheim Hive, visit its website.
