RADIO ACTION CONTINUED WLIR, LONG ISLAND, NY M.D.-RAY WVITE: "The most disappointing news in last week's Sheet was the new 7 record add policy at WBRU. Having been a long time fan of BRU, I feel you folks are making a big mistake and just might be cutting your throat at the same time. The easy out is not always the best solution . I have to admit that I am no longer in a real hurry to check and see what you all are playing and adding. Needless to say, it's the end of a grand New England radio tradition...On to some positives: Congrats to Bill and Collie on the birth of Carl. My guess is he's already doing the babinsky reflex to 'Antmusic' ...Hey Jill, I dug last week's answer-of-the-week. A big thanks to Elektra's records (esp. Willis and Bruce) and to the Greg Kihn Band for one hell of a live radio concert. Denis hit it right on the head when he commented, 'Why isn't this guy a superstar ? He and the band are unreal'! Just a matter of time, boys...Thanks also to Carl Wilson for a fine radio concert. The man is a regular guy and a legend at the same time.. .Rick Stone of A&M deserves praise for helping with a fine Styx promotion, that concluded with two sold-out shows at the Nassau Coliseum. I can't say enough about Tommy Shaw and Jim Cahill of Styx--you guys are great. The entire air staff is still buzzing about your week in New York. By the way 'Paradise Theater' was our LI Lp this week, followed by Joan Jett, Adam and the Ants, AC/DC, and Missing Persons.. .e Bellas' screamer this week is the single from Missing Persons called 'Destination Unknown'...If you missed any of the great Bruce Cockburn music before 'Wondering Where The Lions Are', or you've been in need of a slight nudge to go back and refresh your memory, then 'Resume' is a perfect excuse...I guess the thing I love most about Joe Walsh is his incredible ability to keep things in perspective as well as to maintain a sense of humor about this very often screwed up business of ours. On the mellow edge, 'Neighborhood' is in no way a negative...Don't miss the Shakin' Stevens 45 'This Old House'. It will fit right in there with those , NRBO, CCR Joe Ely and Robert Gordon sets...The Tellis Ethridge Lp works real nicely. Haven't had a good jazz Lp in that niche for a while...Some new imports we're banging include Caravan, Gary Numan Live, Dave Stewart, Colin Bluns, the , and Lene Lovich. Thanks Joel Webber for giving me a taste of the new Philip Rambow cuts. Can't wait for the record! Philip is going to happen! ..And by the way, the Paul and Linda McCartney 'Club Sandwich' photo tribute to John is unbelievably moving. It really stopped me in my tracks...NHL playoff fever ripping thru the station. The real Islanders/Rangers rivalry happening. Go Islanders!"

WDIZ, ORLANDO, FL M.D.-MIKE LYONS: "Our best records this week for sales are: 38 Special, The Who, REO Speedwagon, and Jefferson Starship (which is doing surprisingly welT)...I love the new Jim Steinman and the Mother's Finest. The Finest sounds harder than an AC/DC album, but listen to the whole side. We'll try to find room for it next week...Records that need help: Franke & The Knockouts, Greg Kihn, and Krokus."

WGIR-FM, MANCHESTER, NH M.D.-KAREN ANDERSEN/P.D.-JOE B.: "My first impression of Joe Walsh's Lp is that it isn't as strong as 'But Seriously Folks'. In some spots it sounds a bit uninspired. There are, however, some cuts that sound real good on the air. 'Rivers' and 'Things' are the two tracks we'll start with...Jim Steinman's 'Dance In My Pants' gets this week's Joe B/Karen A radio rave award. As Joe B. says, 'It's a good Summertime tune--I love it.'...Speaking of Summertime tunes, don't overlook 'Cruise Control' by the Dregs. It's a good convertible top-down, 80 degree weather instrumental... Last week was musically pretty active. I attended the Tom Petty listening party in Boston and was duly impressed with the album. The Lp release date can't come quickly enough...Also caught Garland Jeffreys' second night at the Paradise. It was almost as much fun watching the audience sing along and get into the show as it was watching Garland and the Rumour put out some fine music...I've been talking about remote broadcasts GIR FM has been doing. We did one of the most fun ones on Saturday, namely the annual Plymouth State College Tubing Regatta. The Tubers had spirit not to mention loads of beer to keep them insulated from the cold rainy 40 degree weather. Quite acrowd gathered for this auspicious event. Maybe next year we'll get Joe B. to tube and broadcast while he's doing it...Adds: Joe Walsh, Jim Steinman, Tom Johnston, Kim Carnes 45, Dregs 45...Conversions: Starship and Pretenders into hot; Willie Nile, Point Blank and Judas Priest into medium,. ,Phones: AD/DC, REO Speedwagon, Styx, Phil Collins, Ozzy Osbourne...Sales: AC/DC 'Deeds', Styx, Rush, Who, Eric Clapton, and Steve Winwood."

WRNW, BRIARCLIFF MANOR, NY P.D.-RON RIZZI: "Adam & The Ants put on a hell of a show at the Paladium over the weekend. I spoke to Adam Sunday morning, and although he was a bit tired from all the excitement, he had lots to say about 'ant mania'. He happens to be an admirable character with a clear perspective of his own, as well as the group's, place in . He seems to be a visionary as well. Those who are slow to accept it will be embarrassed. They are not hype, and happen to be quite a perk for the industry. In fact, they are heroic indeed, almost Erroll Flynn-ish...0ther notable things this week include: Jim Steinman. Karla Di Vito is great!! The album is a perfect extension of 'Bat Out Of Hell'... made a great splash with instant reaction and acceptance!...Split Enz also deserves an award for getting together another Lp so quickly. 'Hard Act To Follow' and 'History Never Repeats' are both excellent follow ups to 'I Got You'...Joe Walsh's cover reminds me of John Lennon's movie. With all that trash and hanging out in a tank, it may be a great statement as to what society will be upped to! 'Things' and 'Life Is An Illusion' lit up the phones on D ay One ...Thi s Wee ks ' Add s: Dave Ed mun ds, Jim Steinman,

Les Dudek, Split Enz, Joe Walsh, Wishbone Ash, and Bram Tchaikovsky... -Thanks to: Debbi Gould for setting up Adam and Stony for Tommy Shaw of Styx...Also thanks to: Bruce and Willie. Greg Kihn has got to be one of the nicest, funniest people I've ever chatted with. He deserves more--lots more.. .Torn Starr: Thanks. Let's hope I don't write a book of citations in the process!"

WRAS, ATLANTA, GA M.D.-DANE VENABLE: "Adds This Week: Dave Edmunds, Mother's Finest, Jim Steinman, Joe Walsh, Les Dudek, and Split Enz...Increases In Rotation: Southside Johnny And The Asbury Jukes...Drops: Phoebe Snow, Sherbs, Dennis Brown, and Manfred Mann...Five Most Played Songs: 'Cruise Control', 'The Waiting', 'What's She Got', 'I Will Follow', and 'Almost Saturday Night'...It'll probably take the South to build a solid base for Mother's Finest before everyone will realize how viable this band is for album rock. Thanks to the band for stopping by last week...Thanks and good luck to: Screamin' Steve Marriott for landing on our station once again, making FCC history on the air. Seriously, though, a great time was had by all...Also, thanks to the Producers and XTC for stopping by. If that's not enough, Mackenzie Phillips stopped in. What for, I have no ideal...Onto new music: The Joe Walsh has been very hard for me to get into. Hopefully, it'll get better as time goes by...The Les Dudek was one album I was really looking forward to. It's good to see him back. Listen to the first three cuts on Side One. They're as good as anything he did on the 'Say No More' album."

WWCK, FLINT, MI M.D.-MARK MILLER: "It's been a real busy week, so I'm going to try to keep this short and sweet...Adds This Time: Joe Walsh, Tom Johnston, Jim Steinman, and the Elton John 45...Apologies go out to: Denise George and MCA Records for my failure to report the Tom Petty 45. I know the 'waiting' is the hardest part... Impressive Sales Moves For: Franke & The Knockouts, Pretenders, and Jefferson Starship; but especially for Billy Squier. #37 to #12. Everyone just loves Billy. I expect the album to hit Top 5 next week...AC/DC continues to score in the #1 spot. The thing that baffles me about these guys is the fact they've been doing the exact same routine for years now and all of a sudden someone has decided these guys are hip. Everyone else just falls in line. Seems kinda strange. A few years ago, no one could stand them, and now they're big stars... Finally, before I go, let me touch on the 'should be a hit if you only listen' category. There have been many records with this status in the past, but none seemingly so obvious as Fast Fontaine. I mean, c'mon, do some homework and listen to 'Is Your Heater Hot'. It's got great lyrics, it's clever, it's fun, and it cooks. Expect Top 5 phones from all demos."
