Local girl Beth Crumpton needs little introduction - racing for 13 years she has competed Internationally in Mountain Bike, Road and CycloCross, representing GBR in all 3 disciplines at some point throughout her career – and it all started here in Redditch. We caught up with Beth who has now signed for Tarteletto-Isorex, ahead of the Tour to get her top tips and see who she will be cheering on come race day: How did you get into Cycling? My dad was a cyclist and inspired me to give it a go, I attended the local cycling club (Redditch R&P CC) starting at grass root level, I enjoyed it and wanted to keep it up, so I started racing and from there it never really stopped. Who is your cycling hero? My cycling hero is Marianne Vos, she’s a champion & rides with so much passion. What do you think of the Redditch track? Are you gutted to not be Racing it this year? Yeah I am gutted not to be racing on home turf, it’s always cool to race in front of a home crowd but with my new team and new goals I’ll be happy to spectate and enjoy the racing. The circuit meets all aspects of physical, mental and technical challenges, there isn’t much flat terrain in the track, it’s either downhill or dragging uphill with a good punch up Unicorn Hill. It provides a great platform for a great night of racing! Who will you be cheering on? I’ll be cheering for a lot of my past team-mates and friends who are racing in the series this year, I always enjoy watching my friends race because I know how much work they put into achieve their results. Whats next for you? Where can we see you next? I’m fully focussed on my next winter season which will start in September, I’ve signed for a Belgian Cyclocross team Tarteletto-Isorex, where I will focus more on the European calendar.

  • The Tour Series Brings a New Concept in Cycle Racing to the UK Submitted By: Icons and Outcasts Tuesday, 24 March 2009
The Tour Series brings a new concept in cycle racing to the UK Submitted by: Icons and Outcasts Tuesday, 24 March 2009 This summer the UK’s top professional cycling teams will battle it out gladiatorial-style in The Tour Series, a 10 round town and city centre series around the UK. The Tour Series is a revolutionary new concept in cycle racing which brings unique and exciting team racing to the streets of the UK. Unlike any other UK cycling series The Tour Series is not based on individual athletic performance, but instead on team performance. Starting on the 21st May, in Milton Keynes, 10 teams of five highly-tuned professional cyclists will engage in combat against each other to become the overall champions of The Tour Series. Each night the teams will aim to place their top three riders in the highest positions at the end of one hour of intense, fast-paced and attacking racing around a 1-1.5km city centre circuit - delivering all of the thrills and spills of this high-speed sport. From 7pm on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, The Tour Series promises to create a festival of cycling-based activities and races that will generate a carnival atmosphere at each of the chosen venues. Each round will be televised via a major Terrestrial broadcaster. Nine towns and cities are already confirmed to host a Tour Series event - Milton Keynes, Exeter, Woking, Peterborough, Blackpool, Southport, Stoke-on-Trent and Chester with the finals of the series being staged at Southend. The final venue completing the line-up is to be announced very soon.

  • An Introduction to Road Cycling by Alex Paton Who Am I?
AN INTRODUCTION TO ROAD CYCLING BY ALEX PATON WHO AM I? • I am a British professional cyclist racing for UCI continental team Canyon dhb p/b Bloor Homes. • Past teams include: Canyon Eisberg, Madison Genesis and Pedal Heaven. • As a junior cyclist I raced for the Great Britain cycling team competing all over the world and racing in four world championships. • Biggest achievements include: twice national junior cyclocross champion, 17th in the junior mountain bike world championships, winning a national trophy cyclocross race, multiple Tour Series top 10’s and winning the sprints jersey at the 2018 Tour of Britain. MY PATH TO ROAD RACING • I started with a local cycling club aged 11. • I spent my first few years racing and riding off road. • My first race was at Hillingdon Cycle Circuit. • The British Cycling Olympic development program led me on to road racing. • At the age of 18, I decided to take a step back from cycling and enter the ‘real world’ of work. • Seeing the 2012 Olympics inspired me to get back on the bike and find the determination to turn it into a career. So after a 5 year break from cycling, I returned to the sport starting with mountain biking and road racing. • In 2014 I joined Pedal Heaven race team, this was the turning point in my road racing career. • In 2017 I was keen for change and joined Madison Genesis. • After a year of ups and downs, I moved to Canyon Eisberg, run by Tim Elverson who I had worked closely with at Pedal Heaven.

  • Cabinet Report
AGENDA ITEM ii SUBJECT: Cycling – Funding request for Monmouthshire to Host Stage 3 Tour of Britain September 9th 2014 MEETING: CABINET DATE: 7th May 2014 DIVISION/WARDS AFFECTED: All 1. PURPOSE: 1.1 To agree a budget of £40k from reserves for Monmouthshire to host the Welsh Stage 3 of the Tour of Britain Cycling event. 2. RECOMMENDATIONS: 2.1 Cabinet agrees to allocate £40k from Reserves to host Stage 3, including the finish, of the 2014 Tour of Britain Cycling within Monmouthshire on September 9th 2014. 2.2 Cabinet supports the huge opportunity that this event provides. 3. KEY ISSUES: 3.1 The Tour of Britain is a worldwide brand giving Monmouthshire scope to market its offer to many different countries and networks. The race will travel through many areas within Monmouthshire including the Wye Valley and other tourist attractions finishing on the Tumble climb, near Abergavenny. The final route will be finalised by Tour of Britain Technical Team in conjunction with the Council. 3.2 The Tour of Britain is organised in conjunction with Welsh Government, British Cycling and a company called Sweetspot. The huge financial and commercial side of the brand means that for a small investment the County can benefit from worldwide coverage. 3.3 Robust evaluation data is available from previous 3 years events and these demonstrate critical data on event spectators, media coverage pre/post event, worldwide viewing figures and economic benefit. See Appendix 1&2 Tour Of Britain Media Report and economic impact report from last year. 3.4 Monmouthshire has limited opportunities to stage such a high profile world-wide sporting event reaching out to global audiences.

It barely feels like 10 minutes ago that we were sitting down to discuss the creation of the Tour Series -a concept that remains unique - and then preparing for our very first event back in Milton Keynes in May 2009. Now a decade later the Series is at the very heart of the season for both our British men and women’s teams, and a key reason for the continued investment of sponsors to the domestic racing scene. We are delighted to have a fantastic new title sponsor for the Series in this of all years, and would like to welcome OVO Energy across from the Women’s Tour and Tour of Britain.
