arrive as part of the Tigers’ commitment to the game in the Great Southern region. WA Football Commission chief executive Gavin Taylor noted the WAFL has staged more than 70 matches in rural areas since 1984, but this fixture had added significance because of the Anzac element. “The WAFC is looking forward to this game at Albany’s Centennial Stadium and would like to congratulate , South and the City of Albany on forming a partnership to host the fixture as part of the City’s ANZAC Centenary celebrations,” Taylor said. “I would also like to acknowledge the City of Albany on its investment into football facilities in the region, particularly Centennial Park, as quality female-friendly facilities such as this are so important to underpin the growth of our sport. “Regional areas such as the Great Southern have been terrific breeding grounds for WAFL talent, so it’s really important that WAFL clubs continue to encourage growth and development in these areas. “I hope that this is the starting point of an ongoing partnership with the City of Albany that allows us to showcase more football in the region at either an AFL or State League level. “It’s great to see WAFL clubs playing games in the country so that local fans can experience a WAFL game in their own backyard.” The Great Southern has been a rich recruiting ground for the WAFL. Two players expected to be involved in the Round 5 clash - Claremont’s Matthew Palfrey (Railways) and South Fremantle’s Ben Saunders (Mt Barker) - hail from the district.
