Responsible for the overall administration and advancement of Oregon State University (OSU) and the OSU Press (OSULP) in support of OSU’s teaching, learning and research endeavors. Oversee strategic planning process, policy decision-making, organizational development, project oversight, budget allocation, and personnel management (including the Libraries’ tenure process). Serve as OSULP’s budget authority, monitoring a budget of more than $15 million in general funds as well as earnings from more than $10 million in various gift funds and endowments. Provide direct leadership to the Libraries’ Associate University , the OSU Press director, and director of Special Collections and Archives. Working with appropriate OSU Foundation personnel, actively lead the fundraising and donor stewardship activities of the OSU Libraries and Press. Key accomplishments: • Created two five-year strategic plans via an inclusive process that included campus stakeholders. 2018-23 plan: https://library.oregonstate.edu/sites/default/files/osulp_strategic_plan_2018-2023.pdf • Advocated successfully for increases in library materials budget, 2013, 2015, 2016, 2018-2020. • Developed new fundraising priorities and strategies to guide library and OSU Press advancement in anticipation of new campus campaign. • Rebuilt membership of OSULP’s principal volunteer leadership group. • Established several new endowments since 2014--Libraries’ Undergraduate Research Award, Library Internship Program, Special Collections internship, named library technology endowment. • Established Diversity Scholars Program for candidates currently enrolled in MLS programs. • Provided leadership guiding the passage of a campuswide Open Access policy in June 2013. • Foster new and critical roles for librarians through the creation of new library faculty positions: assessment librarian, data management specialist, and student engagement and community outreach librarian. • Initiated pilot project to create Open Access textbooks in partnership with OSU Extended Campus. • Established the Undergraduate Research and Writing Studio in partnership with The Writing Center, an effort that the ACRL Instruction Section honored with its 2019 Innovation Award. • Instituted a reorganization creating the Library Experience and Access Department and Resource Acquisitions and Sharing Department to provide agile and responsive user-centered services and spaces in The Valley Library.

Key accomplishments: • With AUL for Innovative Services, planned and oversaw the realignment of library units to position the Libraries to provide better support of faculty research and student learning; • Actively participated in donor relations, events, and stewardship. • Provided leadership to develop and implement an integrated scholarly communication program that involves subject librarians throughout OSU Libraries in efforts to champion open access and educate the campus about scholarly communication issues, open access, and authors’ rights. • With Oregon University System partners (OSU, , and Portland State) negotiated complex, multi-million dollar agreement with Elsevier at a cost only marginally more than the previous contract while maintaining access to important research journals. • Instituted the development of budget scenario planning and projections to keep the OSU Libraries’ spending on collections within budget. • Led the OSU’s collaboration with University of Oregon, especially to develop shared collections and promote alternatives to traditional scholarly publishing models. One initiative led to the collaborative identification and withdrawal of reference sources to make room for the OSU Libraries’ Learning Commons. Another led to the investigation and implementation of a joint open access publishing platform. • Evaluation and identification of available search and discovery platforms, leading to the 2009 licensing, purchase, and implementation of Serials Solution product, 1Search.

DEPARTMENT HEAD October 2002-July 2007 Collection Development and Acquisitions (Full Professor)

Managed the acquisitions and collection development programs of the University of Oregon (UO) Libraries, directing the selection and acquisition of all formats for all disciplines. Coordinated and evaluated the collection building activities of approximately 25 librarians; trained and developed new selectors. Prepared and expended library materials budget totaling $5 million, managed several general library funds, and oversaw expenditure of gift and grant funds of nearly $300,000 including income from $1 million NEH endowment. With Library Development personnel,

2 administered extensive gifts in kind program. Served as library representative on university and consortial committees, especially in support of collaborative collection development efforts. Conducted qualitative and quantitative collection assessments for campus accreditation needs and program reviews. Supervised two full-time librarians: the East Asian bibliographer and the electronic resources librarian; two unit supervisors, and 8 full-time classified staff. As member of Libraries’ Council, participated in library-wide planning and policy development. Acted as the subject specialist for the video/DVD collection, Spanish literature, and general library materials; served as acting subject specialist for almost any discipline as needed. Until April 2006, negotiated and revised all licensing agreements for electronic resources.

Key accomplishments: • Planned and led the implementation of Millennium (III) electronic resource management module. • Served as a member of the Libraries’ Diversity Committee to develop the Libraries’ diversity plan. • Became the first library department head to use blog software to communicate budgetary information, renewal deadlines, and larger collection issues with all subject specialists. • Licensed and purchased hundreds of databases and thousands of electronic journals, leading the Libraries’ transition from a print collection to one with increasing emphasis on digital resources. • With CDA colleagues, developed and activated a plan to avoid future cancellations while maintaining access to research materials for the UO campus. This plan involved transferring nearly $400,000 of core Elsevier subscriptions to e-only status on ScienceDirect and migrating remaining titles (totaling nearly $500,000) to pay per view, thus broadening campus access to the rest of the Elsevier suite.

Coordinated collection development in the social sciences by directing the selection efforts of 13 librarians and monitoring the materials budget for all the social sciences. Assisted the Head of Collection Management and Head of Acquisitions in preparation of library materials budget totaling approximately $4 million. Served as selector and liaison

3 in American and British literature, linguistics, children's literature, and criminal justice. Monitored replacement and weeding of library materials in the social sciences. Assessed and evaluated the collections using standard evaluation methods such as the OCLC AMIGOS Collection Analysis CD-ROM. Updated collection policies and procedures that were developed in USC Libraries' Collection Policies Manual (1992). Taught bibliographic skills, mostly for graduate students studying literature. Coordinated teaching of introductory psychology lab classes. Provided six hours of reference service weekly.
