1st MARINE DIVISION ASSOCIATION Directory of Members 1984 WorldWarTwoVeterans.org \ _,: . :.-.~ < * William F. Eagan * President WORLD WAR II KOREA "11ETNAM ELIGIBILITY FOR MEMBERSHIP IN TBE I st MARINE DIVISION ASSOCIATION SgtMaj George F . Meyer USMC (Ret.) Executive Secretary Headquarters: 1704 Florida Avenue, Woodbridge, Virginia 22191 Phone: Area Code (703) 550-7516 The men who served in the I st Marine Division - an efficient, reliable fighting unit, seldom matched in military annals - are justifiably proud of their Division's accomplishments in World War II , Korea and in Vietnam. Some of the Esprit de Corps of that unit remained in each man when his active duty with the Division came to an end. It was this same spirit of belonging, of sharing and of giving of one's self which virtually made necessary the forming oLthe I st Marine Division Association. The Association is incorporated as a non-profit organization with membership open to anyone who served in the 1st Marine Division at any time since it was formed in 1941. This applies equally to personnel who served with attached units, such as Naval Hospital corpsmen. Aviation units, Seabees and other Regiments. Briefly, there are two reasons why most members join. First, because it is a means of reestablishing and/or maintaining contact among the men who served with the Division. Second, to support a unique Scholarship Fund to assist in the education of dependents of deceased or totally disabled 1st Marine Division men. A reunion of the Association provides the ideal opportunity for members to "find", see and visit with former "Cob bers" or buddies, and to perpetuate the memory and the spirit and comradeship in arms of those who served together. A Memorial Service is an important part of each Reunion. Also, members are kept well-informed on matters of interest in the Association thru the "OLD BREED NEWS" which is mailed to members free of charge. Full information on reunions is automatically furnished all members thru the Asso ciation newspaper, with several issues carrying plans and a reunion schedule of events. As a Memorial to fallen comrades, the Association has established a Scholarship Fund. This is supported by profits from Reunions, by transfers from the Association treasury, and by gifts from our members and tn·ends. Not one penny of the Fund has been used for any purpose but Scholarship grants. All administrative expenses are met by the Associa tion. The Association has taken a firm stand against any participation in politics, and consistently avoids sponsorship of legislation or attempts to WorldWarTwoVeterans.orginfluence the policies of the Marine Corps or the Department of Defense. Since its beginning, in 194 7, the Association has continued to grow steadily until today, with membership of many thousands, it is the largest of its kind in the United States. lt is supported by both officers and enlisted men, proud of their service and association with the 1st Marine Division, desirous of continuing their contacts with their comrades, and determined to perpetuate the spirit and traditions of the United States Marine Corps thru the Scholf1rship Fund. In the 1st Marine Division Association, they have the ideal organization as a means to those ends. Table Of Contents Officers, Directors ... ... ...... .. .. .... ... ....... .. .. .... ....
