EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY Traditional Parenting Coordinator

The (ONA) is the Tribal Council for the eight member communities of the Okanagan Nation which includes Indian Band, Upper Band, Upper and Lower Similkameen Indian Bands, Indian Band, , Okanagan Indian Band and the Confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation. The ONA’s mandate is to advance, assert, support and preserve Okanagan Nation title and rights. Further, the ONA is charged with providing members with a forum to discuss and form positions on areas of common concern.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

The ONA is seeking to employ an enthusiastic individual to work as Traditional Parenting Coordinator (TPC), within the Wellness Department. As TPC you will report and work directly with the Early Intervention Advisor and will be responsible for the coordination and delivery of the Syilx Traditional Parenting program in each of the seven member communities and three urban areas. Another core component of this role is to provide outreach to parents identified by community staff as needing extra support. The TPC will also provide support to program development and capacity building related to the CEC mandate, Wellness Committee and Syilx ECD Strategy. The TPC has to work collegially with all departments and partners, ONA committees and working groups.

Qualifications and Experience:

 Completion of college/GEGEP or equivalent vocational or technical training.  Minimum completion of Human Service Worker Certificate or Diploma.  Demonstrated organization, multi-tasking, time management and presentation skills.  Working knowledge of computer software including MS office (Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint).  A reliable vehicle and a valid class 5 driver’s license.  Criminal records check required.  Willingness and ability to work flexible hours, which will include evenings and weekends.  Aboriginal ancestry and knowledge of Aboriginal communities, organizations and service providers within the Okanagan Nation preferred.
