Nominations are being accepted for a Seabadge course in Michigan in 2015, the advanced training program for Sea adult leaders. Nominations are made by the Local Council. A limited number of spaces are available for participants at the course. The Seabadge staff will select participants to provide a balance of experience and leadership positions among the course members.

Dates : October 2-3-4, 2015 for Seabadge. Early arrival is available on October 1, 2015. Location : Camp Rotary near Clare, Michigan Cost : Participant Cost $150.00 is for Seabadge. Early arrival is an additional $20.00 fee. (See Conference Cost)

Objectives Seabadge is an advanced training experience designed for adult leaders and committee members at the Unit, District, Council, Area or Region level. However adult leaders from other Programs may attend. The purposes of the Seabadge experience are to : ● Improve the understanding of leadership, management, and motivational skills among Sea Scout and other Scout adult leaders. ● Provide management, leadership, and presentation skills and tools to adult leaders so that they may use and share them with others in their day-to-day Scout activities. ● Use the skills and tools acquired at Seabadge to improve the quality of the Sea Scout program. ● Encourage the development of lifelong contacts and sharing of resources by and between course participants and staff.

Qualifications Nominees must have met the following requirements for participation before the attending the Seabadge course: 1. Nominated by their Local Council. 2. Currently registered in an adult Scouting position for at least one continuous year. 3. Completed and current in Leader Youth Protection Training (VYPT – Y02) 4. Completed Leader Specific training for both: ● Sea Scout Adult Leader Basic Training (SSALBT - P44) Sea Scout Adult Leader Basic Training may be arranged through the Seabadge Course Director. ● the leader specific training appropriate for their Scouting position. This training should be arranged by your local District or Council Training Committee. 5. Willing to apply the skills and knowledge obtained through Seabadge to strengthen Sea Scout membership and unit programs.

Conference Content Seabadge is a participatory experience. There will be intense individual involvement of both the participants and the faculty in seminars, workshops, and discussion. The program includes course sessions which will help an adult leader build their Ship or Unit, work with their youth, and find and foster resources.

Course Completion Seabadge Participants who attend the entire weekend conference will receive a Seabadge Certificate of Attendance. Seabadge Participants who complete their Rutter within the allowed eighteen month time period will receive a Certificate of Course Completion and their Seabadge pin. Application Each Participant Applicant must complete Part Two of the Seabadge Nomination and Application form. They must obtain completion of Part One by their Local Council before their application is submitted. The application form should be submitted as soon as possible, but no later than June 15, 2015. Selected applicants will be notified within two weeks of receipt of their application. Participant applications will not be accepted after August 18, 2015. Signed and scanned applications e-mailed to the Course Director at [email protected] are preferred. A waiting list will be established if there are more applications than positions available. It will also be used to cover withdrawals if any occur.

Conference Cost The Seabadge Participant fee is $150.00. A $50.00 deposit must be made at registration. The balance in full must be paid by August 18, 2015 (45 days prior to the start of the course). A $20.00 fee per person for early arrival on Thursday evening October 1, 2015 covers overnight housing at Camp Rotary on Thursday and breakfast and lunch on Friday October 2, 2015. Note: Thursday night dinner is not included. Restaurants are available close to Camp in Clare, MI. Transportation to and from Seabadge is the responsibility of each individual Participant. Any request for refund will only be processed if received in writing thirty days or more before Seabadge begins. Unless there are extenuating circumstances, there will be a 15% cancellation fee. A refund, without fee, will be made automatically if Seabadge is cancelled or the applicant is not selected to attend.

Arrival and Housing Participants are expected to be on site at Camp Rotary by 1400 (2:00PM) on Friday afternoon October 2, 2015. To accommodate this, early arrival at 1600 (4:00PM) on Thursday October 1, 2015 is available for an additional fee. All Participants will be housed and take meals at Camp Rotary during Seabadge. Uniforms Sea Scout participants will wear official Sea Scout uniforms as described in the Sea Scout Manual and in the errata. ● The dress uniform will be worn for opening ceremony, dinner, graduation and closing ceremony. ● Insignia will conform exactly as outlined in the current edition of the Sea Scout Manual and errata. ● Their Ship's work uniform will be worn during the remainder of the course. Participants registered in other Scout programs may wear their official Scouting uniforms (official shirt, Scout pants, leather or web belt, and official socks) with the shoulder loops signifying their Scouting program. Participants from organizations supporting the Sea Scout program (for example US Sail and Power Squadron or US Coast Guard Auxiliary) will either wear the uniform appropriate to their organization, the Sea Scout uniform or their official Scouting uniform. Participants who are not Sea Scouts will wear their Unit's/Organization's casual uniform when dress is not required.

Preparation Each Seabadge participant will study the Seabadge Participant's Manual which will be e-mailed after their selection. They will also be knowledgeable of the contents of the current edition of the Sea Scout Manual (No. 33239) and the errata which may be downloaded at www.seascout.org. Participants will be current in the following E-learning courses completed at MyScouting.org : Safety Afloat (SA), Safe Swim Defense (SSD) and Weather Hazards (WS8). They will complete all pre-course assignments well before arrival at Seabadge.
