As a Chamber of Commerce, we’ve proudly organized this event for 31 years, viewing this as an opportunity to shine a spotlight on our fantastic Chandler community! This year, we’re thrilled that Waymo has come onboard as Festival Presenting Sponsor, a perfect partnership as Chandler continues to build our presence as the technology hub of the Valley. Look for one of their autonomous vehicles out at the Festival. We anticipate over 100,000 attendees will flood through the gates at Tumbleweed Park, ready to soak up the sun, listen to live music, enjoy exciting attractions and of course, eat sinful fair food! Many of the vendors at the festival are local, offering these small business owners valuable exposure to folks from all over the Valley. Our Ostrich Festival has become quite the music experience, attracting a diverse group of local talent and big-name artists. Kicking things off on Friday night we have Flo Rida taking the stage, Saturday evening enjoy the sweet sounds of The Commodores and wrap it up on Sunday when the fun, upbeat tunes of Andy Grammer will fill the air. Kids won’t want to miss PJ Masks at the Meet & Greet this year! With activities for the entire family including: Dinosaurs, FREE Fossil Dig, Petting Zoo, BMX Trick Show and the ever popular STEM Tent. Keeping things fresh and always looking for new attractions: Guinness World Record , Big Bounce America, a 10,000 sq. ft. bounce house, will be on-site to get your bounce on! Along with Big Bee the Transforming Car and a High Wire/Globe of Death thrills act, Victoria Circus. As always, we have live Ostriches: Get up-close to these beautiful birds and learn fun facts! Did you know that ostrich eyes are about the size of billiard balls? They take up so much room in the skull that the ostrich's brain is actually smaller than either one of its eyeballs … So much a part of Chandler’s rural history, this Ostrich education area promises to be a big hit! The Ostrich Festival has something FUN for everyone and on behalf of the Chamber Board, we hope to see you there! Learn more or purchase tickets online at www.OstrichFestival.com. Tickets can also be purchased at any Bashas’ or Food City. Terri Kimble, President/CEO Chandler Chamber of Commerce @terri_Kimble This week, the Arizona Legislature is exactly halfway through the Session. There have been 1,289 bills posted during the session, with 7 passed, 1 vetoed, and 6 signed into law. The issues that have received the most attention during the first half of the session are Drought Contingency Plan (DCP), Tax Conformity, and Empowerment Scholarship Account (ESA) programs. The DCP plan, signed by Governor Doug Ducey, is still under negotiation for Arizona and other Lower Basin States, to complete all necessary steps in order to comply with federal standards. The ESA issue has seen a great deal of controversy, shortly after Prop. 305 was overwhelmingly opposed by voters, and the fact that a state lawmaker has introduced a new bill that is similar to issues presented in the rejected proposition. The Chandler Chamber of Commerce has been busy this session following issues that will impact the business community. We are working closely with legislative district 17 and 18 lawmakers who have proposed bills to help businesses by streamlining business licensing requirements, like the Regulatory Sandbox program which helps small companies test innovative products directly with consumers, and another to expand space flight programs. Several of our lawmakers are also working on a number of education and workforce development bills, amongst many other issues concerning Chandler and Arizona. As always we will keep our members updated with the latest news on these actions. Chandler Chamber Living Magazine 4 Chandler Mayor Kevin Hartke City of Chandler @ChandlerAZMayor The City of Chandler recently released its 2018 Annual Report. This report highlights the many exciting accomplishments, initiatives and accolades from the past year. As the Innovation and Technology Hub of the Southwest, Chandler thrives on being a champion of innovation and emerging technologies. Through strong economic development efforts Chandler continues to attract leaders in technology, creating thousands of jobs for our residents. We are one of the few cities in the nation with a AAA bond rating from all three rating agencies, we boast one of the lowest total cost of municipal services and taxes in the Valley and we continue to rank as one of the best places to work in the nation. Robust neighborhood programs, a multitude of community events and festivals and a growing mix of eclectic shopping and dining experiences contributed to Chandler being named one of the top places to live Arizona in 2018. Our quality of life is unmatched and I am proud of the efforts of our organization that make that happen. As the pioneers of the future, we are excited to build on all we accomplished in 2018. As the new Mayor, I look forward to the opportunity to be part of making history in this great city. You can view the report at ChandlerAnnualReport.com.
