A cooperative effort between two developers, an area bank and the city of Crestview has resulted in each party obtaining services or infrastructure that neither could otherwise afford nor undertake on their own. The Crestview Public Works depart- ment teamed with the developers of the Redstone Commons low-density, single-family subdivision, the Bishop’s Landing assisted living facility and Beach Community Bank on what Ad- ministrative Services Director Mike Wing described as “mainly sewer-re- lated” infrastructure. Public Works Director Wayne Steele fi rst introduced the proposal at the Aug. 22, 2011, city council meeting. He ex- plained there was no reserve capacity in the older, 8-inch sewer line that runs from the Redstone Avenue area, past Applebee’s restaurant and down to the Rasberry Road sewage lift station. The lack of extra capacity restricts future development in the area served by the line, Steele said. The city had previously been pre- pared to replace the sewer line, which would involve boring under State Road 85, but when the recession hit and de- velopers stopped work on a project Holt fi sh hatchery among the largest in the state intended for the area, Public Works returned the $300,000 allocation for the By MICHAEL STEWART the Florida Fish and Wild- and Wildlife Service.
