Today is jam-packed full of football and entertainment for the family and is a huge day for the Fire with all of our teams playing at the Sunshine Coast Stadium and Kawana Sports Precinct. Today in the Stadium we will see our Under 13 Boys take on SWQ Thunder, our Youth and Senior Women take on Olympic FC, and our Senior Men face off against the Palm Beach Sharks. With each of these teams coming off wins, no doubt they will be looking to maintain their form going forward. The Senior Men’s game starts at 4.15pm so make sure you stay around for half-time to watch the Sunshine Coast Churches Soccer Fair Play Mini Game and we will also have our Kick For Cash competition in which you could qualify for the $250,000 Crossbar Challenge. I hope you have a great day of football at the Stadium and we thank you all for your support. GO THE FIRE!! Email: [email protected] www.sunshinecoastfc.com.au From the Technical Director of Coaching With the Easter break putting a stop to our games program, all Fire teams have continued our training program over the holiday period to ensure all teams maintain momentum as we look to enter our next round of competitive fixtures. Our last round of fixtures against Redlands (Junior Boys U12’s – U16’s), Souths United (Girls & Women) Brisbane Striker (U18’s boys) & Northern Fury (Senior Men) saw us come away from the majority of the fixtures with some convincing victories and more importantly performances. Today’s fixtures see all Fire teams, male and female, back on home soil and its sure to be a very entertaining day. From a Technical Director’s point of view it presents me with a great opportunity to cast my eye over each team in competitive action to observe and analyse how far we have come as a playing group entering the second lot of fixtures, I’m looking forward to seeing everyone on the pitch and look forwarded to seeing all parents / guardians at the games to show your continued support. Melvyn Wilkes Technical Director of Coaching Sunshine Coast FC From the Senior Men’s Coach This week we play host to last season’s NPL champions, Palm Beach, who had a very good win last time out against Redlands, but after a couple of weeks rest I'm hoping the players are ready to put on a good performance especially after our good win on the road against Northern Fury. We've worked hard on a few different things since we last played so let's hope the work on the training field pays off. Hope you all come down and support the boys and hopefully cheer us on to victory. Paul Arnison Senior Men's Coach Sunshine Coast FC From the Senior Women’s Coach A warm welcome to Brisbane Olympic Women's Team to the Stadium this afternoon for a game what should be a close fought affair. Olympic have started the season really well and are currently 3rd in the league. As for ourselves, we had a good win in our last game against Souths with Sofie Persson scoring a hat-trick on her full debut. Although we have had three losses so far, I feel as though we have just not had the breaks at crucial times in games. The effort of the team certainly cannot be faulted and I'm sure the results will start to come. Dave Bensted Senior Women's Coach Sunshine Coast FC From the Youth Women’s Coach The youth women have got back into good form and bounced back very well against Souths with a good 7-0 victory, I think that the girls will find our next game a little tougher and will need to play even better than recent weeks to pull out a win. The girls are still developing well and you can see that some of the players are pushing real hard. We've had a goalkeeper in great form in Katie, we've had good performances from Holly at the back and Brianna and the team has been lead well by Kirra. Players like Jess are coming on leaps and bounds and making great impacts in recent weeks to so it’s fantastic to see so many players getting better and better. I just hope that our current form stays and we can push on throughout the season and finish as high up as possible. Thomas White Youth Women’s Coach Sunshine Coast FC From the 13’s Boys Coach The under 13’s boys game against Thunder on the main field is a great opportunity for our young boys to play on a lovely surface. It's been 3 weeks since our last game so I'm hoping the boys will be ready after a good rest in what will be a very difficult game against a strong Thunder team who have started the season really well, but so have our boys and if we play to our standards we will be a match for anybody in this league so let's hope for a good one and the parents get right behind the young boys and make it a great days for us all. JDRF is the world’s leading not-for-profit supporter of type 1 diabetes research globally. JDRF’s support has been behind most major advances in type 1 diabetes research in the past four decades. “Australia has one of the highest rates of type 1 diabetes in the world, with the number of people affected by type 1 diabetes now exceeding 120,000.” Noel Woodall, Managing Director of Sunshine Coast FC. Typically striking young people, type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease that destroys the body’s ability to produce insulin, which is vital for life. Unlike other forms of diabetes, researches are certain that changes to dietary patterns will not stop type 1 diabetes, currently there is no cure and no way of preventing this disease.
