The Editorial Board

Hello Readers!

The editorial board is mightily pleased and excited to humbly present the latest edition of the annual souvenir “Creation2020“ for your perusal and critical appreciation.

The compilation of the annual magazine, as you are aware, is one of the most eagerly awaited and enthusiastically participated -in long drawn process going through writing, editing, proof reading, publishing and culminating in its unveiling. Thus, the magazine provides a great creative platform to the students and teachers alike in varied fields ranging from writing and editing to designing and sequencing.

Any educational institution attains eminence through the hard work of primarily the students. Hence, the magazine covers the broad range of activities the students have been engaged in which made the institution proud of them. As the innate urge to learn and create is more pronounced in the younger minds, the junior students showed a lot of gusto to be a part of the magazine making it difficult for the editorial board to choose from.

We would like to express our profound and sincere gratitude to the Hon'ble Chairman, Sh. Kaptan Singh, the Secretary, Sh. Ajit Singh Chaudhary, the Treasurer, Sh. Rajpal Singh Solanki, and the Director, Prof. Rachita Rana for giving their incessant support, precious time, and the much sought-after guidance for the completion of this edition. The Editorial Board cannot thank enough all the students, faculty members and alumni who have contributed in the making of the annual souvenir.

The editorial board is especially thankful to the student’s editorial team who have worked hard and have put lots of efforts in the making of Creation, 2020.

The editorial board has tried to make sure that the material published is grammatically, politically, and poetically correct but the originality of the contents cannot be vouchsafed keeping in mind the limited resources at its disposal.

Finally, we would like to thank all the contributors and congratulate the painstaking editorial board for completing the herculean task of the compilation and editing of the magazine in a graceful and aesthetic manner. We look forward to your engaging ideas and suggestions for further improvement in the magazine which could be incorporated in the future editions.

Wishing you an enjoyable reading!

MAHARAJA SURAJMAL Could have been Emperor (1707 A.D - 1763 A.D.) The political landscape of during the eighteenth century was not much different from what it had tended to be, more or less the same as far as its divisiveness is concerned, except of course, the period of the great empires of the Mauryas, the Guptas and the great Mughals . The British Empire comes into its own category.

The decline of the , after Aurangzeb, was primarily caused by his thoughtless bigotry and reckless economic policies. In contrast to this the established tolerant approach of the Great Mughals had been responsible for maintaining amity and stability in the empire. North and Northwestern India during the later part of the seventeenth century was in continuous turmoil. The peasant revolt led by Gokula in 1680, though unsuccessful on the surface, proved a catalectic in igniting the minds of the peaceful village folk to fight for their rights. The eighteenth century brought bad omens for the Mughal Empire.

The impending vacuum in power led to the inviting of new players like the Jats, the Marathas and the several aspiring Muslim noblemen in the arena of politics, vying to occupy the space. The same year (1707) gave to the peasantry of North India a son, like the sun risen on the horizon in the birth of Surajmal in the house of a peasant chief Raja Badan Singh of Bhagalpur. Surajmal as a young boy joined his father as the latter's right hand man and helped in consolidating and expanding the Bharatpur territory to be ultimately recognized as a kingdom of consequence by the Mughal Emperor.

With the deterioration of the sight of Badan Singh, Surajmal assumed the reins of the Bharatpur kingdom as a de- facto ruler. Moving on from where his father had reached, he acquired new territories for the . But the hallmark of his approach to restrict his endeavors in spreading his influence only over the territories largely dominated by his compatriots, the Jat peasants, who thought of republican propensities accepted antimed went with the monarchical ruler. On his part Surajmal kept a peasant's profile both in manners and conduct. He had acquired the reputation of a warrior of great prowess at a fairly young age. His performance in the battle of succession at Baghru (1748) fighting from the side of Ishwar Singh of Jaipur lives on as a legend even today. Surajmal had risen to the occasion to fulfill his word given to the dying Raja Jai Singh. The powerful Marathas fighting on the side of the other contender Madho Singh had to taste dust in the rather fateful encounter. But at the time Surajmal was well aware of the devastation that war brings to the common people. Therefore as far as possible he ensured that his territories do not turn into an arena of war. Internally he maintained law and order thoroughly ensuring safety of the life and wealth of not only his subjects but also the safe return of the wealth of traders which they preferred to deposit with Surajmal in times of turbulence. He continued to be helpful to the rising rulers of the peasant fraternity like Balram of Ballabhgarh, Rana Bhim Singh of Gohad and the Jat rulers of Bajhod, Kajaura and Karauli •

How he handled, without giving up, the seize of his fort at Kumher (1754) laid by a confederacy of the Marathas, the Mughal Wazir Imad and Rohilla chief Najib can be described as an incredible feat. He did not hesitate to part with his hard earned wealth to be given as war expenses to mighty opponents, be they the money seeking Marathas or the avaricious Afghan Abdali. Surajmal's best talent came out in the moments of crisis and turbulence. He kept his cool and baffled his contemporaries with his adroit diplomatic moves on many occasions precariously placed as he was between Abdali and on the North and the Marathas on the South, and had to continuously deal with the established Rajputs. With his robust communication skills he succeeded in evading an invasion by Abdali (1757) who was lurking in the vicinity of Bharatpur after having devastated major parts of the Brij country side. The contents and tone and tenor of his letter to Abdali given below is seen by experts as an example of fine diplomacy: I have no important position and power in the empire of Hindustan. I am one of the zamindars living in the desert and on account of my worthlessness none of the Emperors of the age thought it worthy of him to interfere with my affairs. Now that a powerful Emperor like your Majesty, determined on meeting and opposing me face to face in the field of battle, would draw his armies against this insignificant person, that action alone would be discreditable to the dignity and greatness of the Shah and would help in the elevation of my position and people would say that the Emperor of Iran and Turan had, out of extreme fear, marched his armies upon a penniless nomad. These words alone would be a matter of great shame for your Majesty... Moreover, the ultimate result is not altogether free from uncertainty. If with all this power and equipage, you succeed in destroying a weakling like me, what credit there will be gained?.... But if by divine decree, which is not known to anyone, the affair takes a different turn (i.e. Ahmed Shah is forced to embrace defeat) all this power and predominance brought about by your Majesty during a period of eleven years will finish in a moment. As to the threatening and violent order issued for the slaughter and devastation of myself, warriors have no fear on that score. It is well known that no intelligent man has any faith in this transient life. As for myself, have already crossed fifty of the stages (of life) and know nothing of the remaining. There shall be no greater blessing than that I should drink the drought (of martyrdom)...in the field of battle with valiant soldiers and leave my name and that of my ancestors on the pages of the book of the age to be remembered that a powerless peasant breathed equality with such a great and powerful emperor as had reduced mighty king to subjection and that he fell fighting. And the same virtuous intention lies at heart of my faithful followers and companions. Even if I wish to make up my mind to attend the threshold of your... Court the honour of my friends does not permit me. Under such circumstances, if your majesty.... forgive me and turn your attentions to expeditions of greater importance, no harm shall come to your dignity and glory. The truth about the three forts (belonging to me), the object of your wrath which have been regarded by your Majesty's chiefs as weak as spider's web, shall be tested only after an actual contest. God willing they shall be invincible as Alexander's Rampart. [Quoted from Tarikh-i-Imad-ul-Mulk, 243-245 by Ganda Singh, Durrani, 181-183] You have not conquered India as yet. If you have taken hold of an inexperienced child (Imad) who held Delhi, what is there to be proud of? If you have any pretentions, why this delay (in attacking me)?... I have spent large sums of money on this (Kumher) fort. The Shah can be kind to me by fighting with me as that the world may remember in future that a Badshah came from Vilayat and conquered Delhi, but was helpless against an insignificant zamindar. [Jam-i-Jahan Numa quoted by Ganda Singh, Durrani, p.183]

It is a matter of regret that but for the Marathas his efforts to form a coalition against Abdali bore little fruit In not listening to his Saner counsel the Maratha general Bhau had to pay a heavy price in the battle against Abdali at Panipat (1761). Surajmal indeed did not join the Marathas at Panipat because he had seen through their game. He had been forewarned by some well meaning elements around Bhau about his plan to swallow the Jat principality along with the Delhi throne once he was done up with Abdali. Surajmal was not a nitwit not to have seen through the Maratha's game.

Surajmal had all the qualities of a good ruler. Welfare of his subjects was his main concern. Trade and commerce thrived in his kingdom as he remitted transit duties and facilitated commercial transactions. He did not spend his money in wasteful projects but he did not lag behind in creating a fully fledged department of charity under Somnath Chaturvedi. He patronized men of Art and Learning. The forts and buildings raised by him at , Bharatpur, Kumher and Wair are standing testimony of his taste as a builder and connoisseur of Art. His adopting of a happy blend of the features of Mughal and Hindu architecture in his buildings produced a new style called the Jat architecture. About his palace at Deeg which got completed several years after his death, Father Wendell, a contemporary has to say:

"It is difficult to realize the expanse and magnificence of this palace without seeing it. I have seen none in Hindustan that would surpass it in magnificence or would come near to it."

Surajmal was liberal in his religious views. He built several tanks, arbors, temples and chhatries at Govardhan, Mathura and Vrindaban and other places. He was equally regardful of Islam. When tauntingly asked by Malharrao, how the Jama Masjid at Mathura was proudly standing in his Hindu principality, he simply remarked that he could demolish it if someone could guarantee that no single temple will be dismantled as a consequence or more importantly if anyone could guarantee him perpetual royalty, a fickle commodity. His friendship with Safdarjung was based on mutual faith and trust which stood all ordeal. Equally intense was his disliking and hatred for Najib. In the words of Wendell,"He was loved by his own and respected by all near him not so much because of the exploits which he accomplished, as because he was forthright in his capability to do what he had taken upon himself."

The military legacy of Surajmal speaks of his organizing skills and vision of planning internal and external security for the people of his state. He left behind a cavalry of 15000 strength, 25000 infantrymen, 300 pieces of cannons with 60 elephants and 50 horses in stables apart from a well endowed treasure.

Had Surajmal not been stubbornly determined in not heeding to Najeeb's repeated pleadings for reconciliation on the issue of the Mewati nawab's betrayal, occasion would not have occurred for the son of Mewati to have been lurking around for revenge. His going back on his word given to the Nawab of Farrukh Nagar was not in line with his entire polity and temperament demonstrated throughout his career. We can only guess. Perhaps Surajmal had better rteasons for behaving as did.

Had Surajmal survived the ambush attack on him made on him (on 25 December 1763) with a stratagem in east of Delhi at a time when victory was merely at a smelling distance, the political map of India would have been differently drawn and its history differently shaped. In other words Surajmal would have been sitting in the throne of Delhi which he so richly deserved. But who can write the script of destiny already written?

Antra-Encore

Antra-Encore, the music society of Maharaja Surajmal Institute, is a society that comprises of vocalists, instrumentalists, percussionists, beat boxers, DJ producers. Antra- the Indian portion of the society, performs various forms of Indian music ranging from Hindustani classical music, Folk music, Ghazals, Bhajans, Bollywood, Sufi, Thumri etc. Encore-the Western portion of the society performs Acapella and uses a range of genres like Jazz, Blues, Pop, Rock, Progressive, Classics. This society also has a band, which mainly focuses on Rock, Progressive and Classical fusion.

So, ANTRA is a term we use in Indian classical and Light music, for the set of lines sung after the main first set of lines.

And ENCORE means the request for repetition of a performance... The way audience asks for "Once more! Once more!". The name signifies that we aim to perform so well that the audience would be compelled to ask for more. But since it is a French word, so it sounds like it has to be related to Western music more than Indian.

Antra-Encore has been divided into two sections i.e., Antra the Indian wing and Encore the Western. The society is headed by the president, vice- president and two heads for Antra and Encore.

Antra-Encore was established in the year 2014 under the leadership of Akansha Panwar to bring together all musicians including vocalists, instrumentalists, beat boxers, DJ producers, etc. it teach, promote and encourage music. It provides a platform to the students with the taste and talent for music. Antra-Encore performs in many competitions in different colleges and has won many prizes.

Enactus msi volunteered for an NGO “GUZARISH” which organised a fundraising competition by the name

“Daan Utsav” and stood victorious by raising the maximum funds.

Also, apart from external activities in timely intervals, brain storming sessions are conducted; whose agenda is to bring out creativity of individuals.

‘Society aims to bring holistic development in an individual & provide practical exposure as to deal with Govt ‘agencies. Self-satisfaction is the reward of being the member of the society.’

INNOVISION

“You are an artist, so come over and make one with us.”

Innovation is the photography and film society of Maharaja Surajmal Institute. Innovation is consisted of two words- “inno” means to innovate and “vision” means the way to see something. It tends to give vision to us by their photographs. It is a crucial society as they have to capture each and every event in the college. The society was started 2 years back by some casual people who loved photography. The structure of innovation is very simple. They have 2 presidents- Shlok and Adra from both MSI and MSI-T.then under them there are 2 head each from MSI as well as from MSI-T. Right now, approximately there are 28 students who are part of this society.

This society is all about giving you their learning and exchange of thoughts. They conduct an amazing activity called 'photo bomb'. It's a session in which the students will travel to different parts of city and try to tell a story through their captured image. This activity creates a bond between the members of the society

THE IDEA THAT LIFE ON EARTH WILL COME TO A STANDSTILL IS RECENT. THE HISTORY OF BIOLOGICAL WARFARE GOES BACK MUCH FURTHER THAN THE USE OF POISON GASES, BUT THE BIOLOGICAL AGENTS THAT THREATEN US TODAY ARE A RECENT INVENTION. THE COVID-19 OUTBREAK HAS THE ABILITY TO DO MORE HARM TO MORE PEOPLE THAN EVER BEFORE. IT HAS PUT THE HUMANITY TO ONE OF THE BIGGEST RISKS OF THE CENTURY. THIS DEADLY VIRUS HAS BROUGHT THE WORLD ON ITS KNEES AND HAS SERIOUS EFFECTS FOR THE PEOPLE LIVING TODAY AND IN THE NEAR FUTURE. FIRST OF ALL, AN INTENTIONAL OUTBREAK MAY NOT SEEM VERY DIFFERENT FROM A NATURAL OUTBREAK. THE ILLICIT USE OF BIOLOGICAL AGENTS IS RARE, EVEN THOUGH THE MATERIALS AND KNOWLEDGE TO EMPLOY THEM HAS BEEN AVAILABLE. THE CONSEQUENCES OF ANYONE DEVELOPING SOPHISTICATED SKILLS IN THIS AREA ARE FRIGHTENING. THE CHINESE GOVERNMENT SUPPRESSED INFORMATION AND SILENCED THE WHISTLE BLOWERS TO KEEP THE WORLD IN THE DARK AS THE CORONA PANDEMIC GREW. EVEN, SEVERAL CONSPIRACY THEORIES ARE MAKING ROUNDS THAT THE 2019-20 CORONA VIRUS PANDEMIC COULD BE A BIO WEAPON COMPOUNDED IN THE WUHAN LABORATORY. UNBEKNOWNST TO US, COULD THIS HAVE BEEN INTENTIONALLY STARTED? SECONDLY, INTELLIGENCE PLAYS A KEY ROLE IN PROVIDING AS EARLY AS POSSIBLE A WARNING OR AWARENESS OF ANY BIO THREAT. IF SUCCESSFUL, THE INTERNATIONAL INTELLIGENCE SYSTEM WOULD DISRUPT AN ENEMY ATTACK, OR DISCOVER A PANDEMIC IN ITS EARLY LOCAL STAGES, QUARANTINE AND PREVENT IT FROM SPREADING WORLDWIDE. THE SPREAD OF THE NOVEL CORONA VIRUS COULD HAVE BEEN PREVENTED IF THE EARLY WARNINGS BY WHISTLE BLOWERS WERE NOT IGNORED OR SUPPRESSED. A KEY ROLE OF THE INTELLIGENCE COMMUNITY, IN ADDITION TO EARLY WARNING AND POSSIBLY DISRUPTING AN EVENT IS TO TRY TO DETERMINE IF AN IMPENDING EVENT IS NATURAL, ACCIDENTAL, OR INTENTIONAL. EACH OF THESE EVENTS WILL HAVE A DIFFERENT IMPACT ON THE VARIOUS ROLES OF INTELLIGENCE, OPERATIONS, MATERIAL SUPPORT, AND MEDICAL RESPONSE. THIRDLY, THE CORONA PANDEMIC HAS REACHED INTO THE VERY FABRIC OF THE GLOBAL COMMUNITY, AND HAS PUT THE FINANCIAL AND ECONOMIC VIABILITY OF MANY COUNTRIES AT RISK. TO FIGHT A PANDEMIC, WE REQUIRE A CHANGE IN DOCTRINE FROM EVACUATION TO QUARANTINE. THE PREVIOUS RESPONSE SYSTEM WAS DESIGNED TO EVACUATE CITIZENS FROM THE SCENE OF DISASTER, WHETHER AN EARTHQUAKE, FIRE, OR FLOOD. DURING A PANDEMIC LIKE CORONA VIRUS, THE RESPONSE SYSTEM NEEDED TO QUARANTINE CITIZENS, I.E. RESTRICTING THE RIGHTS OF SOME TO PROTECT THE OVERALL WELL-BEING OF SOCIETY. THE DECISION ABOUT WHETHER OR NOT TO ESTABLISH QUARANTINE RESTS ON A COUNTRY. MANY COUNTRIES AROUND THE GLOBE HAVE TO TAKE DIFFICULT DECISIONS INTERNALLY, REGARDING WHOSE RIGHTS TO TAKE AWAY IN ORDER TO PROTECT THE WHOLE OF THEIR SOCIETY. PRESENTLY, A NUMBER OF COUNTRIES HAVE ENFORCED QUARANTINE MEASURES FOR THE CONTROL AND PREVENTION OF COVID-19 BECAUSE ONCE THE QUARANTINE IS BROKEN, AND PEOPLE MOVE OR TRAVEL, THE BIO-DISASTER CAN RAPIDLY BECOME A MEGA- DISASTER THAT OVERWHELMS THE SURGE CAPACITY OF THE SYSTEM. FOR EXAMPLE, EARTHQUAKES AND HURRICANES CANNOT GROW, BUT PANDEMICS CAN IF NOT RAPIDLY CONTROLLED. CORONA VIRUS IS A WAKE-UP CALL TO THE INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY SHOWING HOW AN ACCIDENTAL PANDEMIC COULD RAVAGE THE WHOLE WORLD. THE CORONA VIRUS MORTALITY RATE VARIES FROM COUNTRY TO COUNTRY. THE HIGHEST CASUALTIES WERE THOSE MOST EXPOSED TO THE GLOBAL FLOW OF PEOPLE AND CAPITAL. FOR INSTANCE, IN GERMANY THE MORTALITY DUE TO CORONA VIRUS IS RELATIVELY LOW THAN ITALY, WHERE THE MORTALITY RATE REMAINS EXTREMELY HIGH. THE WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION (WHO) EXPLAINS SEVERAL FACTORS THAT CONTRIBUTE TO THESE DISCREPANCIES LIKE THE OLDER PEOPLE ARE AT THE HIGHER RISK ESPECIALLY THOSE WITH PRE-EXISTING HEALTH CONDITIONS WHICH MAKES THE EASIER FOR THE VIRUS TO OVERCOME A PERSON’S IMMUNE SYSTEM THAN IN CASE OF YOUNGER PEOPLE WITH HEALTHY IMMUNE SYSTEM. ANOTHER REASON FOR THE DIFFERENCE IN DEATH RATES IS HOW WELL A COUNTRY’S HEALTHCARE SYSTEM IS PREPARED FOR AN OUTBREAK LIKE CORONA VIRUS. THE AIM IS TO REDUCE THE SPREAD OF INFECTION AND DEATH RATES BY KEEPING THE NUMBERS LOW AS A VIRUS SPREAD. ACCORDING TO STATISTICS, IN THE INITIAL PHASE OF THIS OUTBREAK, GERMANY HAS 29 BEDS PER 100.000 PEOPLE. IN THE USA, THERE ARE 34 BEDS PER 100,000 PEOPLE. IN ITALY, THERE ARE JUST 12 AND IN SPAIN JUST 10 BEDS PER 100,000 PEOPLE. ALSO, THE COUNTRIES LIKE SOUTH KOREA AND INDIA WHICH TOOK STRICT SOCIAL DISTANCING, MASS TESTING AND QUARANTINE MEASURES IN THE INITIAL PHASE HAVE SLOWED THE SPREAD OF COVID-19. THIS IS YET ANOTHER REASON FOR THE DIFFERENCE IN THE DEATH RATES. THERE CAN BE TWO POSSIBLE SCENARIOS FOR THE ORIGIN OF NOVEL CORONA VIRUS. ON ONE HAND, THE VIRUS WAS DEVELOPED FOR USE AS WEAPON. ON THE OTHER HAND, THE VIRUS JUMPED FROM AN ANIMAL HOST INTO HUMANS. IF THE VIRUS ENTERED IN HUMANS FROM AN ANIMAL SOURCE; THEN, IT RAISES THE PROBABILITY OF FUTURE OUTBREAKS, AS THE VIRUS STILL BE CIRCULATING IN THE ANIMAL POPULATION AND MIGHT JUMP INTO HUMANS AGAIN. N CONCLUSION, IT CAN TAKE YEARS FOR THE TIDE TO GO OUT. WHAT COUNTRIES NEED IS AN “EXIT STRATEGY.” SO, WHEN THE OUTBREAK ENDS AND LIFE GET BACK TO NORMAL, WE NEED TO PREPARE OURSELVES FOR AN EMERGING THREAT THAT MAY BECOME A LOCAL PROBLEM OR A PANDEMIC DISEASE. WE HAVE TO INTEGRATE CLINICAL MEDICINE, PUBLIC HEALTH, AND LAW ENFORCEMENT IN A FULLY COORDINATED MANNER FROM THE NATIONAL RESPONSE PLAN DOWN TO LOCAL HEALTH FACILITY. THERE NEEDS TO BE CAREFULLY PLANNED STOCKPILING OF MASKS, ANTIBIOTICS, ANTIVIRAL, AND VACCINES WITH GOOD DISTRIBUTION PLANNING. THERE IS STILL NO GLOBAL DATABASE OR LISTING OF WHICH LABORATORIES POSSESS DANGEROUS AGENTS. THERE IS NO SYSTEMATIC DATA ON LABORATORY LOCATIONS OR WHETHER EXPERTS HAVE RELEVANT TRAINING, WHERE EXPECTS ARE WORKING, WHETHER THEY ARE PROPERLY CERTIFIED, OR IN SOME CASES WHERE THEY ACTUALLY ARE. THEREFORE, WE NEED A SHIFT FROM “NEED TO KNOW” TO “NEED TO SHARE” APPROACH. A WIDE RANGE OF INSTITUTIONS- PUBLIC HEALTH AND MEDICAL, POLICE AND FIRE, GOVERNMENT AND BUSINESS MUST PUT THEIR DIFFERENCES ASIDE AND WORK TOGETHER. ONLY SOUND AND APPROPRIATE PREVENTIVE PLANNING AND APPROPRIATE AFTER-ACTION PLANS CAN BRING LIFE BACK TO NORMAL.

“PATIENCE A VIRTUE” -BY BHAVYA BHATIA

IT HAS BEEN RIGHTLY SAID, "PATIENCE IS A VIRTUE". INDEED, IT ACTUALLY IS. HOWEVER, MANY TIMES WE ACTUALLY FAIL TO REMAIN PATIENT WHEN IT REQUIRES US TO BE THE MOST. WHEN WE ARE TOO EXCITED ABOUT SOMETHING WHICH HAS TO HAPPEN, WHEN WE CAN'T WAIT FOR A MOVIE TO RELEASE, WHEN WE ARE LONGING TO GO OUT FOR A VACATION OR WHEN WE ARE AWAITING SOMETHING GOOD TO HAPPEN. THESE ARE SOME OF THE COMMON EVENTS WHICH TAKE PLACE IN OUR DAILY LIVES. WE GET TOO HYPED OR EXCITED THAT WE TEND TO LOSE PATIENCE. PATIENCE IS NOTHING BUT A PERIOD OF A WAIT AFTER YOU HAVE DONE WHAT YOU WERE SUPPOSED TO, AND NOW WAITING FOR THE OUTCOME. LOSING PATIENCE MAY TAKE MANY FORMS. SOME OF THEM MAY BE DANGEROUS. IN THE WORLD IN WHICH WE LIVE TODAY, PATIENCE IS NOTHING LESS THAN A CHALLENGE. A CHALLENGE OF TOLERATING WAIT, DELAY, AND FRUSTRATION, WITHOUT GETTING AGITATED OR ANXIOUS. IT IS THE ABILITY TO BE ABLE TO CONTROL YOUR EMOTIONS AND IMPULSES AND PROCEED CALMLY WHEN FACED WITH FRUSTRATING SITUATIONS. I REMEMBER MY GRANDMOTHER ALWAYS USED TO TELL ME THAT YOU MUST LEARN TO BE ABLE TO WAIT; GOOD THINGS ARE ON ITS WAY TO HAPPENING. AND THEY WILL WHEN THEY HAVE TO. SHE ALWAYS USED TO RECALL AS TO HOW PEOPLE FROM THEIR GENERATION USED TO WAIT FOR LETTERS AND OTHER ESSENTIALS TO REACH THEM. THE HAPPINESS YOU RECEIVE AFTER THE WAIT IS JUST BEYOND THE WORLD. TODAY, WHEN WE CAN SEND A MESSAGE WITHIN SECONDS, WE STILL LOSE OUT ON PATIENCE WHEN THE CONNECTION TAKES A BIT TIME, WHEN THE CAB DRIVER OR DELIVERY PERSON IS A MINUTE LATE FROM THE TIME SHOWN ON THE APP, WHEN WE ARE EXCITED TO MAKE FOOD BUT CAN'T WAIT TO EAT IT AND STANDING IN A QUEUE, OH IT'S THE MOST DIFFICULT TASK! HAVE YOU EVER IMAGINED WHAT IS THE REASON FOR DOMINOS TO PROVIDE DELIVERY OF PIZZAS IN 30 MINUTES? OR SWIGGY KEEPING A CHALLENGE OF DELIVERY IN TIME OR FREE FOOD? THE REASON FOR FOOD COMPANIES OR RATHER ALL COMPANIES; TO TAKE SUCH STEPS IS THE LACK OF PATIENCE IN THE PEOPLE TODAY. WE ALL WANT SUPER FAST SERVICE, SUPER FAST WORK TO HAPPEN AND MEGA SUPER FAST SUCCESS TO COME. EVER IMAGINED WHAT IF IN THIS RUSH, OUR WORK GETS SPOILED OR IN SUCH STRESS, IT IS NOT COMPLETED! NO ONE IS TO BE BLAMED FOR IMPATIENCE, THAN FOR US. IT IS US WHO ARE IN SO MUCH HASTE THAT WE WANT EVERYTHING TO HAPPEN WITHIN A BLINK OF AN EYE. IT IS TIME TO BRING ABOUT A CHANGE IN OUR ATTITUDE OF IMPATIENCE. WE ALL MUST LEARN TO WAIT. WAITING HAS ITS OWN EXPERIENCE. WAITING IS A JOURNEY TO CHERISH FOREVER. IMAGINE THE WAIT OF A STRUGGLING ACTOR TO BECOME A SUPERSTAR, THE WAIT OF A MOTHER TO SEE THE FACE OF HER BABY, THE WAIT OF A DREAMER, WHICH WE ALL ARE, TO SEE DREAMS COME TRUE! THIS HAS ITS OWN UNIQUE EXPERIENCE WHICH NO ONE CAN EXPLAIN. AFTER THE OUTCOME COMES OUT, ONE CAN NEVER FORGET THIS EXPERIENCE OF WAITING PATIENTLY. STAYING PATIENT IS ONE OF THE VERY IMPORTANT FACTORS WHICH HELP US IN SUCCEEDING IN LIFE. HASTE IS ALWAYS EVIL IN WAY OF SUCCESS. WE MUST NEVER EXPECT THE RESULT TO COME OUT AS SOON AS THE WORK IS OVER. YOU NEED TO WAIT AND THE OUTCOME WILL BE POSITIVE. TAKE THE EXAMPLE OF A CATERPILLAR, IT UNDERGOES METAMORPHOSIS AND THE RESULT IS IT TURNS OUT TO BE A BEAUTIFUL BUTTERFLY, WHICH ATTRACTS EVERYONE'S ATTENTION. SIMILARLY, YOU CANNOT EXPECT THE RESULT OF A MATCH BEFORE IT HAS EVEN STARTED. PATIENCE IS THEREFORE VERY IMPORTANT FOR SUCCESS. THERE ARE MANY BENEFITS OF DEVELOPING PATIENCE IN YOUR PERSONALITY. 1. INNER PEACE: DEVELOPING PATIENCE NOT ONLY REDUCES STRESS, BUT ALSO MAKES YOU A HAPPY PERSON, AND A HAPPY PERSON IS ALWAYS SUCCESSFUL. WHEN YOU LEARN AND PRACTICE PATIENCE, YOU CAN VERY WELL CONTROL SHOWING EXTREME REACTIONS IN SITUATIONS, WHETHER DESIRED OR NOT. 2. DEALING WITH DIFFICULT SITUATIONS WITH EASE A PATIENT PERSON HAS THE ABILITY TO DEAL WITH DIFFICULT SITUATIONS WITHOUT OVER-REACTING AND LOSING CONTROL. HE CAN DEAL WITH SUCH SITUATIONS WITH POISE AND EASE. HE LEARNS FROM THIS EXPERIENCE AND TAKES A GLANCE AT WHERE WAS HE LAGGING. 3. IMPROVED JUDGEMENT WHEN YOU MAKE DECISIONS PATIENTLY, THE CHANCES OF MISTAKES REDUCE BECAUSE YOU TAKE INTO ACCOUNT ALL POSSIBLE PROS AND CONS RELATED TO IT. YOU TAKE YOUR OWN TIME TO UNDERSTAND THE SITUATION AND ASSESS IT ACCURATELY. 4. DEVELOPING EMOTIONS A PERSON WITH PATIENCE IS MORE COMPASSIONATE AND HAS MORE UNDERSTANDING. THEY KNOW THE WAY THEY HAD OVERCOME OBSTACLES AND HOW THE OTHER PERSON IS DEALING WITH IT. THEY ARE ABLE TO DEVELOP AN UNDERSTANDING WITH THE OTHER PERSON. HE ALWAYS ACTS AS A PILLAR OF STRENGTH AND SUPPORT TO OTHERS. PEOPLE WITH PATIENCE HAVE A CHARMING AND ATTRACTIVE PERSONALITY. 5. APPRECIATING THE PROCESS OF GROWTH A PATIENT PERSON VERY WELL KNOWS THAT NOTHING CAN BE ACHIEVED IN ONE DAY. EVERYTHING TAKES ITS OWN TIME. TAKING THE SAME EXAMPLE OF CATERPILLAR, IT WAS NOT CONVERTED INTO A BUTTERFLY IN JUST A DAY; IT TAKES ITS OWN TIME TO UNDERGO THE PROCESS OF METAMORPHOSIS TO COME OUT BEING A BUTTERFLY. SIMILARLY, THE PHASES OF PLANNING, EVALUATING AND WORKING, ALL TAKE ITS OWN TIME, AND AFTER THAT COME THE RESULT. IT MAY SOUND VERY EASY TO REMAIN PATIENT, WONDERING ALL THAT YOU NEED TO DO IS WAIT, BUT TRUST ME IT'S NOT. AT SOME POINT OR THE OTHER WE LOSE OUR COOL AND GET AGITATED. NO ONE CAN HELP YOU TO STAY PATIENT. ONLY YOU CAN HELP YOURSELF. IT IS A NATURAL BEHAVIOUR FOR ANY HUMAN BEING TO GET AGITATED WAITING FOR SOMETHING. NO ONE CAN CHANGE THIS. BUT SURELY ONE CAN IMPROVE IT! TO BE ABLE TO STAY PATIENT IS ONE OF THE DESIRABLE CHARACTER TRAITS THAT ANYBODY CAN HAVE IN THEM. SO HERE ARE A FEW STRATEGIES WHICH YOU CAN APPLY IN LIFE TO BUILD AND IMPROVE YOUR PATIENCE LEVEL. 1. TAKE THE SITUATION UNDER YOUR CONTROL WHENEVER YOU FEEL THINGS ARE GETTING OUT OF HAND AND YOU CANNOT TOLERATE IT ANYMORE, TAKE THE SITUATION UNDER YOUR CONTROL. BY THIS I MEAN THAT ASSUME WHATEVER IS HAPPENING IS HAPPENING BECAUSE YOU PLANNED IT TO HAPPEN THE WAY. SUPPOSE YOU ARE WAITING FOR A MEETING AT THE RECEPTION AND YOU CAN'T TOLERATE IT ANYMORE, JUST THINK THAT IT WAS NOT THE BEST TIME OR THE RIGHT TIME. MAYBE SOMETHING EVEN BETTER IS ON ITS WAY AHEAD. BY THINKING IN SUCH A MANNER YOU CAN TAKE ANY SITUATION UNDER YOUR CONTROL WHEN YOU FEEL YOU ARE LOSING PATIENCE. 2. UTILIZE YOUR TIME WISELY A DAY HAS 24 HOURS. WE MUST UTILIZE THIS TIME TO US IN SUCH A MANNER THAT IT DOES NOT CAUSE ANY BURDEN OR STRESS ON YOU. THE TIME MUST BE DIVIDED THAT IT DOES NOT CREATE ANY TENSION, YOU TAKE TIME TO REST AND HAVE PROPER MEALS, AND YOU DO NOT SKIP DOING WHAT YOU ENJOY THE MOST. IF YOU ARE SKIPPING ON THESE POINTS, THEN YOU ARE NOT MAKING PROPER PLANS AND ARE NOT MANAGING TIME EFFICIENTLY. YOUR BRAIN IS NOT CLEAR AND EVERY TIME SOMETHING OR THE OTHER IS GOING ON IN IT WHICH CAUSES TENSION AND STRESS DUE TO WHICH A PERSON IS LIKELY TO GET IMPATIENT AND AGITATED VERY QUICKLY. SO MAKE SURE YOU MANAGE YOUR TIME IN THE RIGHT MANNER AND TAKE TIME FOR YOURSELF TO CLEAR YOUR MIND AND BE HAPPY. 3. LESSON LEARNING FROM SITUATIONS WHENEVER YOU COULD NOT HANDLE A SITUATION, DON'T SIT AND KEEP THINKING ABOUT IT. YOU SHOULD RATHER HAVE A TIME OF SELF-INTROSPECTION. YOU MUST ANALYZE AS TO WHERE YOU WERE LAGGING AND WHAT MISTAKES YOU MADE. SIMILARLY, WHEN YOU ARE GETTING IMPATIENT, START LEARNING FROM YOUR SURROUNDINGS OR THE SITUATION IN WHICH YOU ARE LIKE YOU TO MEET A NEW PERSON, GET A UNIQUE AND FRESH EXPERIENCE YOU HAVE NEVER WITNESSED BEFORE. THE BEST TECHNIQUE TO AVOID GETTING IMPATIENT IS SEARCHING FOR LESSONS YOU LEARN IN SUCH SITUATIONS. 4. KEEP THE EFFECTS OF IMPATIENCE IN MIND WHENEVER YOU ARE GETTING IMPATIENT AND GETTING AGITATED, THINK OF THE FUTURE, THE IMPACT THAT YOUR LIFE WILL HAVE AFTER THIS PERIOD. CREATE A VISUAL IN YOUR MIND ABOUT THE NEGATIVE EFFECTS OF YOUR IMPATIENCE THAT IT WILL CREATE FOR YOU AND WILL ACT AS A HURDLE IN YOUR WAY TO SUCCESS. THIS HAS BEEN A PROVEN STRATEGY IN ANY CIRCUMSTANCE. THINKING ABOUT THE EFFECTS OF IMPATIENCE WILL GIVE YOU AN INSIGHT OF WHAT HARM YOU MAY DO TO YOURSELF AND WHAT IS AWAITING YOU AFTER THAT. 5. IN BETWEEN ALL MESS TAKE TIME AND BREATHE WHENEVER YOU FIND YOURSELF IN A TESTING SITUATION AND YOU ARE IN BETWEEN ALL CHAOS. JUST TAKE OUT A MOMENT FOR YOU TO BREATHE AND HAVE A GLASS OF WATER. THIS IS ONE OF THE MOST EFFECTIVE TIPS ON KEEPING CALM AND MAINTAINING PATIENCE AS IT WILL COOL DOWN YOUR ANGER. A MOMENT FOR YOURSELF WILL HELP YOU TO THINK ABOUT THE BRIGHT SIDE OF WHAT YOU HAVE BEEN STRUGGLING TO ACHIEVE. 6. THINK ABOUT WHAT HAS TO COME IF YOU ARE GETTING AGITATED AND IMPATIENT, JUST DIVERT YOUR MIND AND THINK ABOUT WHAT WILL HAPPEN IN THE FUTURE IF YOU CAN OVERCOME THIS HURDLE. YOU MAY GET A LIFE YOU ALWAYS WISHED FOR AND MAKE YOUR DREAMS COME TRUE. OR YOU MAY RUIN EVERYTHING WHICH WAS SET UP FOR YOU AND WAS SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN. DON'T WORRY ABOUT THE RESULT. EVEN IF IT IS NOT IN YOUR FAVOR, AT LEAST YOU GOT A VALUABLE LIFE LESSON AND YOU'VE OVERCOME THE OBSTACLE. THE NEXT TIME YOU WON'T FEEL AGITATED AND EVENTUALLY, YOU WILL DEVELOP A HABIT OF KEEPING CALM. 7. MAKE AN IMAGE OF YOUR PERSONALITY IN MIND AND STICK TO IT IT IS VERY IMPORTANT FOR EVERYONE TO VISUALIZE IN MIND THE WAY YOU WANT TO SEE YOURSELF FOR A FEW MONTHS OR YEARS AFTER. DO YOU WANT TO REMAIN STRUGGLING AND UNSUCCESSFUL, OR YOU WANT TO SHINE AMONGST THE REST OF THE CROWD, IT ALL DEPENDS ON YOUR ACTIONS NOW? WHEN YOU HAVE A SET PERSONALITY (WHICH YOU HAVE VISUALIZED FOR YOURSELF) YOU STICK TO ITS CHARACTER AND TRY TO GIVE YOUR BEST TO WORK ON IMPROVING YOUR CURRENT PERSONALITY. YOUR 'CREATED IMAGE' WILL HELP YOU NOT TO DO ANYTHING WHICH YOU SHOULD NOT. SO ALWAYS KEEP IN MIND, IF YOU WANT YOUR DREAMS TO COME TRUE, YOU MUST ALWAYS STAY PATIENT! IT IS A VERY DESIRABLE CHARACTER TRAIT THAT EVERYONE MUST TRY TO DEVELOP. IT IS THE MOST POWERFUL FORM OF SELF-DISCIPLINE. PATIENCE IS SURELY A VIRTUE!

“APPEARANCES ARE DECEPTIVE” – BY BHAVYA BHATIA "DON'T JUDGE A BOOK BY IT COVER" IS IT JUST A PHRASE WHICH WE LEARNT IN OUR SCHOOLS AS VALUE LESSON OR A PHRASE WHICH ACTUALLY HAS A SIGNIFICANT MEANING IN OUR LIFE? WELL, HOW MANY TIMES HAVE YOU PREFERRED SOMETHING WHICH LOOKS GOOD OVER SOMETHING NOT SO GOOD LOOKING, WITHOUT EVEN KNOWING ABOUT IT? HOW MANY TIMES DO YOU ACTUALLY EAT FOOD WHICH IS GOOD LOOKING AND FANCY LIKE A PIZZA OR PASTA OVER SOMETHING WHICH LOOKS SIMPLE YET IS BENEFICIAL JUST LIKE PORRIDGE OR A SALAD? HOW MANY TIMES WAS IT WHEN YOU PREFERRED BUYING SIMPLE CLOTHING RATHER THAN A LUXURIOUS OR A BRANDED ONE? THESE ARE SOME OF THE SIMPLE SITUATIONS IN WHICH WE MAKE DECISIONS OR CHOICE ON THE BASIS OF APPEARANCES THOUGH THE OTHER OPTION MAY BE WORTH OR EVEN BETTER THAN THE ONE YOU CHOOSE. THIS PHRASE IMPACTS SO MANY DECISIONS WHICH WE TAKE IN OUR DAILY LIVES SO IMAGINE ABOUT TAKING A CRUCIAL DECISION BASED ON THIS? IMAGINE AN EMPLOYER HIRING AN EMPLOYEE WHO IS GOOD LOOKING BUT NOT SO KNOWLEDGEABLE OVER SOMEONE WHO IS NOT THAT GOOD-LOOKING BUT HAS MANY QUALIFICATIONS. THIS IS A REALISTIC SITUATION THAT ACTUALLY TAKES PLACE IN THE WORLD. WHAT APPEARS TO US AS GOOD MAY NOT NECESSARILY BE AS GOOD OR AS WORTH THAT WE THINK IT TO BE! IT IS JUST OUR MINDSET WHICH MAKES US BELIEVE THAT BETTER IS ALWAYS THE ONE WHICH APPEARS GOOD. DESPITE OF THE FACT THAT WE HAVE LEARNT SO MANY TIMES IN OUR CHILDHOOD, EVEN READ ABOUT IT, THAT APPEARANCES ARE DECEPTIVE AND THAT WE MUST NEVER JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS COVER. DOESN’T IT JUST SO STRANGE THAT WE MAKE A COMPLETE REVIEW OF SOMETHING JUST BY ONE SINGLE LOOK, KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT IT! I HAVE AN EXPERIENCE OF A LADY TO SHARE WITH YOU ALL. SO THERE WAS A LADY WHO WAS DESPERATELY IN NEED OF A JOB AND LOOKING FOR THE SAME SINCE MANY DAYS. FINALLY SHE MANAGED TO SCHEDULE AN INTERVIEW FOR THE JOB AND FOR THE SAME SHE DECIDED TO GO AND BUY SOME LUNCH FOR HERSELF FROM A NEARBY FOOD JOINT AS THE INTERVIEW MAY TAKE THE ENTIRE DAY. WHILE SHE WAS PICKING UP HER LUNCH SHE MET ONE OF HER SCHOOL FRIENDS AND THEY HAD A NICE CONVERSATION. SUDDENLY THERE COMES A MAN INSIDE THE FOOD JOINT WHO WAS WEARING LOOSE FITTING CLOTHES WHICH WERE NOT NEAT AND CLEAN CLOTHES. TO BOTH THE FRIENDS, HE APPEARED TO BE A POOR GUY WHO CAME TO ASK FOR SOME FOOD. AS THE MAN APPROACHED THE BILLING COUNTER TO PLACE HIS ORDER, THE JOB-SEEKING LADY STARTED YELLING AT THE STAFF THAT HOW COULD THEY ALLOW BEGGARS AND PEOPLE LIKE HIM TO ENTER. SHE GAVE A VERY JUDGMENTAL AND A FINICKY LOOK TO THE MAN. THE MAN FELT QUITE UNCOMFORTABLE HEARING THIS. TO THIS THE FRIEND ASKED THE LADY NOT TO DO THAT AS SHE WAS BEING DISRESPECTFUL AND WAS DOING SO BECAUSE OF HIS APPEARANCE ONLY AND KNEW NOTHING ABOUT HIM. AFTER THE THE MAN TOOK THE FOOD PARCEL AND LEFT WITHOUT SAYING ANYTHING. THE FRIEND FELT REALLY SAD AFTER THIS INCIDENT BUT IT SEEMED AS IF THE LADY HAD NO REGRET OR ANY SIGN OF REMORSE. WITH THIS BOTH THE LADIES TOOK THEIR FOOD AND LEFT. THE LADY WAS VERY EXCITED ABOUT HER INTERVIEW SCHEDULED AND REACHED THE OFFICE. SHE WAS VERY IMPRESSED BY LOOKING AT THE TALL BUILDING OF THE OFFICE, THE WELL GROOMED PEOPLE AND THE SURROUNDING. IT WAS AS IF A DREAM JOB SHE WOULD GET IF HER INTERVIEW WENT WELL. WHILE WAITING FOR HER TURN, SHE STARTED THINKING ABOUT HER LIFE IF SHE GOT A JOB IN SUCH A PRESTIGIOUS OFFICE. HER LIFE WOULD CHANGE DRASTICALLY. THERE WERE MANY OTHERS WAITING ALONG WITH HER FOR THE INTERVIEW, BUT SHE FELT THEY WERE NO COMPETITION TO HER AND THAT SHE WAS THE BEST AMONG ALL. AS TIME PASSED, THE LADY FINALLY HAD HER CHANCE. IT WAS HER CHANCE TO PROVE THAT SHE WAS THE BEST AMONG ALL OTHERS FOR THE JOB AND IT WOULD BE HER DREAMS COME TRUE IF SHE GOT IT. THE LADY WENT INSIDE THE INTERVIEW ROOM WHERE SHE FOUND THAT IT WAS THE CEO OF THE COMPANY HIMSELF WHO WAS TAKING THE INTERVIEW. SHE GOT EVEN MORE EXCITED. AS THE FORMAL CONVERSATION WAS GOING ON BETWEEN THE CEO AND THE LADY, THEIR TALK WAS INTERRUPTED BY A MAN WHO CAME INSIDE THE OFFICE WITHOUT ANY PERMISSION. TO HER SURPRISE, IT WAS THE SAME MAN SHE FACED AN ENCOUNTER AND MOCKED HIM AT THE FOOD JOINT. SHE WAS FEELING AS IF SHE GOT IN TROUBLE AND IT WAS TRUE. THE MAN LOOKED AT HER AND SAID, "WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING AT SO STRANGELY? IS IT ME? WOULD YOU NOT PASS COMMENTS ABOUT ME NOW?" THE LADY WAS FEELING EXTREMELY HUMILIATED AND SURPRISED THAT WHAT WAS THE MAN DOING IN THE OFFICE. THE CEO ASKS THE MAN WHETHER HE HAD MET THE LADY BEFORE TO WHICH THE MAN RECALLS THE ENTIRE EPISODE OF MORNING AS TO HOW SHE DISRESPECTED HIM AND HUMILIATED HIM IN FRONT OF EVERYONE AT THE FOOD JOINT. THE LADY GAVE HER EXPLANATION WHICH MADE NO SENSE. KNOWING THIS THE CEO SAID THAT THE MAN WAS HIS SON. THE LADY WAS SHOCKED. THE CEO TOLD HER THAT HE WORE LOOSE FITTING CLOTHES BECAUSE HE WAS A DANCER AND RUNS AN ACADEMY OF HIS OWN. THE LADY FELT ASHAMED AND EMBARRASSED. SHE APOLOGIZED TO THE MAN AS WELL AS THE CEO; HOWEVER, SHE DID NOT GET THE JOB. THE CEO OF THE COMPANY TOLD HER THAT HE COULDN'T HIRE SOMEONE WHO CANNOT RESPECT THE OTHER PERSON AND IS SO INSENSITIVE AND DOESN'T EVEN CARE ABOUT THE FEELINGS OF THE OTHER PERSON. THE LADY APOLOGIZED AGAIN TO BOTH AND LEFT THE PLACE. THOUGH SHE DID NOT GET A JOB, BUT LEARNT A VERY VALUABLE LESSON, WHICH SHE WOULD NEVER FORGET THROUGHOUT THE LIFE. SO WE SEE HOW JUDGEMENT BASED ON APPEARANCE MADE A PERSON NOT CAPABLE FOR A JOB. IT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO KNOW THAT MAKING JUDGEMENT BASED ON APPEARANCE OR ANY OTHER FACTOR CAN BE VERY DISRESPECTFUL. WE MUST ALWAYS MAKE SURE THAT "NEVER JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS COVER!" WHAT MAY APPEAR MAY NOT NECESSARILY APPEAR IN THE WAY YOU THINK. APPEARANCES ARE DECEPTIVE.

“HUMANITY”

THERE EXIST FOUR PROMINENT RELIGIONS IN THE WORLD NAMELY: HINDUISM, CHRISTIANITY, ISLAM AND SIKHISM. LET US SEE WHAT THESE RELIGIONS TEACH US ABOUT HUMANITY. IN HINDUISM IT IS SAID “MAJAHAB NAHI SIKHAATA AAPAS MEIN BAIR RAKHNA.” IT MEANS NO RELIGION TEACH US TO FIGHT WITH EACH OTHER. JESUS CHRIST SAID “DO TO OTHERS WHATEVER YOU WOULD LIKE THEM DO TO YOU. THIS IS THE ESSENCE OF ALL THAT IS TAUGHT IN THE LAW & THE PROPHETS.” PROPHET MUHAMMAD SAID “THOSE WHO ARE MERCIFUL WILL BE SHOWN MERCY BY THE MERCIFUL. BE MERCIFUL TO THOSE ON THE EARTH & THE ONE ABOVE THE HEAVENS WILL HAVE MERCY UPON YOU.” GURU NANAK DEV JI, FOUNDER OF SIKHISM GAVE A HYMN THAT STARTS WITH THE LINES “AWAL ALLAH NOOR UPAYA KUDRAT KE SAB BANDAY, AIK NOOR KEH SAB JAG UPJAIYA KAUN BHALE KO MANDE.” IT MEANS GOD CREATED LIGHT OF WHICH ALL THE BEINGS WERE BORN & FROM THIS LIGHT, THE UNIVERSE; SO WHO IS GOOD & WHO IS BAD. HUMANITY MEANS THE QUALITY OF BEING HUMANE I.E. THE QUALITY OF BEING KIND HEARTED, UNDERSTANDING, GENTLE & BENEVOLENT. IRRESPECTIVE OF THE RELIGION THE OTHER PERSON BELONGS TO IT IS THE ONUS OF EVERY HUMAN BEING TO HELP EACH OTHER DISPASSIONATELY. HUMANITY IS THE ONLY ONE RELIGION WITH WHAT THE WORLD HAD STARTED OFF & GOD WILLINGLY WHAT THE WORLD WILL END WITH. MOST OF THE PEOPLE COMPLAIN ABOUT THAT THEY HELPED EVERY HUMAN THAT CROSSED THEIR PATH, DID GOOD DEEDS AND THEY STILL SUFFER, THEN THESE PEOPLE START BLAMING GOD & LOSE THEIR FAITH IN HUMANITY. THESE PEOPLE SUFFER NOT BECAUSE THEY HELPED OTHER PEOPLE; THEY SUFFER BECAUSE THEY FORGET TO HELP THEMSELVES. GOD DIDN’T SAY THAT ONE SHOULD HELP OTHERS AND FORGET TO TAKE CARE OF ONESELF, GOD ALWAYS SAID TO TAKE CARE OF ONESELF & OTHERS. HUMANITY IS BLISS & GIVES PEACE OF MIND. THE BEST EXAMPLE IS THE GREAT MOTHER TERESA. IN 1950, TERESA FOUNDED THE MISSIONARIES OF CHARITY THAT MANAGES HOMES FOR PEOPLE WHO ARE DYING OF HIV/AIDS, LEPROSY & TUBERCULOSIS. MEMBERS TAKE VOWS OF CHARITY, POVERTY & OBEDIENCE & ALSO PROFESS A 4TH VOW – TO GIVE WHOLEHEARTED FREE SERVICE TO THE POOREST OF THE POOR. THIS IS THE EXAMPLE THAT IS CITED BUT ONE NEED NOT OPEN BIG CHARITIES AND SERVE THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE TO SERVE HUMANITY. HELPING ONE POOR PERSON BY FEEDING HIM FOOD OR BY HELPING IN ANY OTHER WAY WHOLEHEARTEDLY IS ENOUGH TO GET PEACE OF MIND. DOING GOOD DEEDS FROM THE HEART DEFINES THE PURPOSE OF LIFE & MOTIVATES TO BE A HUMAN. APJ ABDUL KALAM SAID, “IT IS VERY EASY TO DEFEAT SOMEONE BUT IT IS VERY HARD TO WIN SOMEONE.”

“BIO SECURITY IN THE 21CENTUARY: THREATS & RESPONSES” -BY SWATI DUGGAL INCREASING CONCERNS ABOUT THE THREAT OF BIOTERRORISM HAS STIMULATED EFFORTS TO IMPROVE THE NATIONAL LAW TO ADVANCE GLOBAL BIO SECURITY. IN A PRACTICAL SENSE, BIO SECURITY INVOLVES ISSUES DEALING WITH MICROORGANISMS AND TOXINS. IT ENSURES THAT BIOLOGICAL MATERIAL AND SENSITIVE INFORMATION REMAIN OUT OF THE REACH OF TERRORISTS AS SOME EXPERTS FEAR THAT AN INCREASE IN LABORATORIES DEALING WITH DANGEROUS BIO THREAT AGENTS INCREASES THE RISK OF LEAKS, ACCIDENTS, OR HUMAN ERRORS. BIO SECURITY THREATS COULD PRODUCE NOT ONLY SERIOUS DAMAGE TO PEOPLE BUT ALSO AT THREE LEVELS OF GOVERNANCE, I.E., LOCAL, NATIONAL, AND GLOBAL. HENCE, IT IS NECESSARY TO HAVE COOPERATION, CO- ORDINATION AND PARTNERSHIPS BETWEEN PUBLIC HEALTH, PRIVATE FIRMS, MEDIA, AND OTHER AGENCIES LOCALLY, NATIONALLY AND INTERNATIONALLY. SOME FACTORS THREATENING BIO SECURITY ARE- GLOBALIZATION- WE LIVE IN A GLOBAL VILLAGE WHERE MICROBIAL AGENTS DO NOT NEED VISAS FOR INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL. THE GLOBALIZATION OF ESSENTIAL AND NON-ESSENTIAL ITEMS CAN SERVE AS A VEHICLE TO PATHOGENS AND TOXINS TERRORISTS WHO WISH TO HARM OTHERS WITH BIOLOGICAL WEAPONS LIKE SENDING THE ANTHRAX LETTERS OF 2001. THERE IS NO GLOBAL MANDATORY OBLIGATION TO REPORT THEFTS INVOLVING PATHOGENS RECOGNITION- THERE IS NO GLOBAL DATABASE OF PATHOGENS OR DATA OF WHICH LABORATORIES POSSESS DANGEROUS AGENTS. THERE IS NOT EVEN DATA ON WHETHER EXPERTS HAVE TRAINING, WHERE THEY WORK, OR WHETHER EXPERTS ARE CERTIFIED. ECOLOGICAL FACTORS- THIS INCLUDES AGRICULTURAL AND INDUSTRIAL CHANGES LIKE DEFORESTATION, URBANIZATION, MASS PRODUCTION, OR GLOBAL WARMING ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS- INCREASE IN TRAVEL AND MOVEMENT OF PEOPLE ACROSS BORDERS. FOR EXAMPLE, REFUGEE CAMPS CAN BECOME BREEDING GROUNDS FOR DISEASES THAT CAN SPREAD LOCALLY AND GLOBALLY. OTHER ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS INCLUDE COMING IN PHYSICAL CONTACT WITH NOVEL PATHOGENS LIKE CONSUMPTION OF, OR ATTACK BY DISEASED ANIMALS. THERE ARE FOOD MARKETS IN CHINA WHERE PIGS, BATS AND OTHER ANIMALS CAN HARBOUR VIRUSES LIKE SARS AND INFLUENZA. FOR EXAMPLE, THE RECENT OUTBREAK OF COVID-19 CASES STARTED IN DECEMBER 2019, WUHAN. THE NOVEL CORONA VIRUS HAS TOUCHED EVERY CORNER OF THE GLOBE. THE WHO HAS DECLARED IT PANDEMIC AFTER HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE DIED AND MORE THAN 200,000 CONFIRMED CASES. BIO SECURITY MEASURES COUNTERING BIOTERRORISM: THE ROLE OF INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION AND MUTUAL SUPPORT BIOTERRORISM IS A NEW PHENOMENON THAT POSES A SERIOUS THREAT TODAY. THERE IS NO PERFECT SYSTEM TO SAFEGUARD AGAINST TERRORIST USE OF A BIOLOGICAL AGENT. IN THE MODERN ERA, BIOLOGICAL AGENTS HAVE THE ABILITY TO DO MORE HARM TO MORE PEOPLE THAN EVER BEFORE. THE DEVELOPMENT IN BIOLOGICAL SCIENCES IS LOWERING THE BARRIERS TO THE EXPLOITATION OF BIOLOGICAL AGENTS OR TOXINS. THUS, THE NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL ORGANIZATIONS CAN PLAY AN IMPORTANT ROLE IN COMBATING BIOTERRORISM BY PROVIDING MUTUAL SUPPORT AND PREVENTING THE MALICIOUS USE OF BIOLOGICAL AGENTS OR TOXINS BY THE TERRORISTS MUST REMAIN A HIGH PRIORITY FOR GOVERNMENTS. BIOTERRORISM SURVEILLANCE: SURVEILLANCE IS ONE OF THE MOST BASIC TOOLS IN THE PREVENTION OF BIOTERRORISM. THERE ARE FOUR MAIN GOALS FOR BIOTERRORISM SURVEILLANCE – TO DETECT THE OUTBREAK, TO MONITOR THE PROGRESS OF THE OUTBREAK, TO PROVIDE THE DATA FOR RISK COMMUNICATION, TO SHARE DATA INTERNATIONALLY THE ROLE OF THE CLINICIANS: EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT PHYSICIANS, DOCTORS, NURSES, MEDICAL TECHNOLOGISTS, AND OTHER HEALTH PROFESSIONALS ARE AMONG THE FRONTLINE STAFF IN FIGHT AGAINST BIOTERRORISM. THE COURAGEOUS FRONTLINE STAFFS RISK THEIR LIVES TO HELP THE COUNTRY TO COMBAT HIGHLY- CONTAGIOUS DISEASES. TO QUOTE DR ERIC RABORAR, “BY SAVING OUR FRONT LINERS, WE SAVE OUR FAMILIES AND OUR COMMUNITY.” SO, IT IS THE DUTY OF GOVERNMENT TO PROVIDE THEM ESSENTIAL MEDICAL SUPPLIES AND PROTECTION EQUIPMENT. IT IS HARD TO JUDGE THE IMPACT OF EMERGING PATHOGENS WITHOUT GOOD RECORD KEEPING. NEW TECHNOLOGIES ARE BEING DEVELOPED TO SPEED UP THE PATHOGEN RECOGNITION PROCESS. BOTTOM-UP APPROACH: THE FLOW OF INFORMATION GOES FROM THE COMMUNITY TO THE LOCAL HEALTH FACILITY, THEN TO THE NEXT LEVEL OF THE PYRAMID. ONCE THE REPORT REACHES THE NATIONAL LEVEL THEN THE INFORMATION NEEDS TO BE REPORTED TO THE INTERNATIONAL LEVEL. A MAJOR CHALLENGE IN THE FLOW OF INFORMATION IS GETTING INFORMATION FROM THE COMMUNITY ON DISEASE. FOR EXAMPLE, A PERSON WHO IS ILL DOES NOT GO TO LOCAL HEALTH CARE PROVIDER DUE TO WHICH THEY DON’T LEARN ABOUT THE CASE. THE INFORMAL SECTOR PROVIDES EARLY WARNINGS TO THE FORMAL SECTOR. THE COMMUNITY ALSO PLAYS AN IMPORTANT ROLE IN EARLY IDENTIFICATION AND EARLY REMEDIATION OF EMERGING INFECTIOUS DISEASES LIKE SARS OR NIPAH VIRUS. THEREFORE, IT IS NECESSARY TO HAVE NETWORK OF NETWORKS. QUARANTINE AND ISOLATION: ACCORDING TO CENTRES FOR DISEASE CONTROL AND PREVENTION (CDC), ISOLATION AND QUARANTINE HELP PROTECT THE PEOPLE BY PREVENTING EXPOSURE TO PEOPLE WHO HAVE OR MAY HAVE A CONTAGIOUS DISEASE. ISOLATION SEPARATES SICK PEOPLE WITH A CONTAGIOUS DISEASE FROM PEOPLE WHO ARE NOT SICK. QUARANTINE SEPARATES AND RESTRICTS THE MOVEMENT OF PEOPLE WHO WERE EXPOSED TO A CONTAGIOUS DISEASE TO SEE IF THEY BECOME SICK. QUARANTINE IS AN IMPORTANT TOOL DESIGNED TO PREVENT THE SPREAD OF DISEASE BY RESTRICTING THE MOVEMENTS OF INDIVIDUALS. THE USE OF RESTRICTIVE MEASURES LIKE QUARANTINE AND ISOLATION IS ON THE AGENDA OF PUBLIC HEALTH AUTHORITIES BECAUSE THE OUTBREAK OF NEW CORONA VIRUS (SARS-COV-2) DISEASE (COVID-19) HAS BECOME PANDEMIC. CONCLUSION BIO SECURITY REFERS TO THE MEASURES TAKEN TO STOP THE HARBOUR OR SPREAD OF HARMFUL ORGANISMS TO HUMAN, ANIMAL AND PLANT LIFE. WE CAN’T PREDICT WHEN AND WHERE TERRORISM WILL OCCUR. BUT WE CAN’T NEGLECT PREPARING FOR FUTURE POSSIBLE OCCURRENCES. SO, WE SHOULD MAKE NEW LAWS IN EACH COUNTRY TO RESTRICT BUYING OR POSSESSING DANGEROUS COMPOUNDS AND EQUIPMENT THAT CAN BE USED FOR MANUFACTURING BIOLOGICAL WEAPON. THEREFORE, THERE IS A NEED FOR GLOBAL RESILIENCE AND COOPERATION DURING ALL PHASES- PRE-, TRANS-, AND POST EVENT. ALL THE INSTITUTIONS LIKE GOVERNMENT, INFORMAL SECTOR, POLICE MEDICAL AND PUBLIC HEALTH MUST WORK TOGETHER ON EMERGENCY SERVICES, SURVEILLANCE, ETC. THERE IS ALSO A NEED TO PREVENT BIOTERRORISM THROUGH INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION AND MUTUAL SUPPORT AMONG NATIONAL GOVERNMENTS, INTERNATIONAL PUBLIC AND PRIVATE ORGANIZATIONS, AND GLOBAL BUSINESS.

“NASA BIDS FAREWELL TO SPITZER TELESOPE AFTER 16 YEARS OF SERVICE” -BY ANWESHA DUTTA

THE FULL FORM OF NASA IS NATIONAL AERONAUTICS AND SPACE ADMINISTRATION. THE NATIONAL AERONAUTICS AND SPACE ADMINISTRATION (NASA) WAS CREATED BY THE NATIONAL AERONAUTICS AND SPACE ACT IN 1958. NASA, AN AGENCY OF THE UNITE STATES GOVERNMENT, HAS “THE MISSION TO PIONEER THE FUTURE IN SPACE EXPLORATION, SCIENTIFIC DISCOVERY AND AERONAUTICS RESEARCH.” THEREFORE, NASA CONCENTRATES ITS EFFORTS IN TWO MAIN AREAS, NAMELY SPACE EXPLORATION AND CIVILIAN AND MILITARY AEROSPACE RESEARCH. NASA IS AN INDEPENDENT AGENCY OF THE EXECUTIVE BRANCH OF THE UNITED STATES FEDERAL GOVERNMENT RESPONSIBLE FOR THE CIVILIAN SPACE PROGRAM, AS WELL AS AERONAUTICS AND AEROSPACE RESEARCH. THE MAIN ACTIVITIES OF NASA ARE FOCUSED ON THE RESEARCH AND TEST OF NEW FLIGHT TECHNOLOGIES, THE CREATION OF CAPABILITIES FOR SUSTAINABLE HUMAN AND ROBOTIC EXPLORATION, SPACE EXPLORATION AND SUPPLY OF SPACE TECHNOLOGIES. NASA DEVELOPS ALSO ITS ACTIVITIES IN THE FIELD OF DISASTER MANAGEMENT, NASA IS CONSCIOUS OF THE FACT THAT “CORRECT FORECAST AND PREDICTIONS OF NATURAL PHENOMENA ARE VITALLY IMPORTANT TO ALLOW FOR PROPER EVACUATION AND DAMAGE MITIGATION STRATEGIES”. SINCE THE TIME, MOST US SPACE EXPLORATION EFFORTS HAVE BEEN LED BY NASA, INCLUDING THE APOLLO MOON LANDING MISSIONS, THE SKYLAB SPACE STATION, AND LATER THE SPACE SHUTTLE. CURRENTLY, NASA IS SUPPORTING THE INTERNATIONAL SPACE STATION AND IS OVERSEEING THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE ORION MULTI-PURPOSE CREW VEHICLE, THE SPACE LAUNCH SYSTEM AND COMMERCIAL CREW VEHICLES. NASA HAS RECENTLY SAID GOODBYE TO THE SPITZER SPACE TELESCOPE AFTER 16 YEARS OF SERVICE USING INFRARED LIGHT TO UNVEIL OTHERWISE INVISIBLE FEATURES OF THE UNIVERSE, INCLUDING SEVEN PLANETS THE SIZE OF EARTH AROUND THE STAR TRAPPIST-1. SPITZER, WHICH WAS SENT INTO ORBIT AND BEGAN ASTRONOMICAL OBSERVATIONS IN 2003, IS ONE OF THE POWERFUL TELESCOPES EXPLORING THINGS BEYOND THE RANGE OF THE HUMAN EYE, EXAMINING ELECTROMAGNETIC RADIATION OF VARIOUS WAVELENGTHS, JUST LIKE THE HUBBLE, COMPTON AND CHANDRA TELESCOPES DO. THIS 'SCOPE FOCUSES ON INFRARED LIGHT, WHICH CAN REVEAL DIFFERENT CHARACTERISTICS OF THE UNIVERSE FROM NORMAL "VISIBLE" LIGHT, INCLUDING OBJECTS THAT ARE TOO COLD TO EMIT VISIBLE LIGHT SUCH AS EXOPLANETS, BROWN DWARFS - STAR-LIKE BODIES WITH INSUFFICIENT MASS TO ACTUALLY SHINE - OR THE COLD MATERIAL THAT IS PRESENT BETWEEN THE STARS. INFRARED LIGHT - WHICH IS MERELY WHAT WE COMMONLY KNOWN AS "HEAT" - IS INVISIBLE TO THE HUMAN EYE, BUT SOME OF ITS WAVES CAN PASS THROUGH CLOUDS, GASES AND DUST THAT ARE OPAQUE TO VISIBLE LIGHT .THE TARANTULA NEBULA WAS ONE OF THE FIRST CELESTIAL OBJECTS THAT THE SPITZER TELESCOPE OBSERVED, A REGION OF SPACE WHERE ONE OF THE MOST-STUDIED STARS IN THE UNIVERSE - ONE CALLED 1987A - EXPLODED AS A SUPERNOVA.

“ARTICLE 370 & ITS ISSUE” - BY SRISHTI BUDHIRAJA

ARTICLE 370. IT IS A SPECIAL STATUS OFFERED TO JAMMU AND KASHMIR WHICH HAS BEEN THE SUBJECT OF DISPUTE BETWEEN INDIA, PAKISTAN, AND CHINA IN 1947. IT ALLOWS THE STATE TO HAVE A SEPARATE CONSTITUTION, A STATE FLAG AND AUTONOMY OVER THE INTERNAL ADMINISTRATION OF THE STATE. THE ARTICLE 370 EMBODIED SIX SPECIAL PROVISIONS FOR JAMMU AND KASHMIR: A) IT EXEMPTED THE STATE FROM THE COMPLETE APPLICABILITY OF THE CONSTITUTION OF INDIA. THE STATE WAS ALLOWED TO HAVE ITS OWN CONSTITUTION. B) CENTRAL LEGISLATIVE POWERS OVER THE STATE WERE LIMITED, AT THE TIME OF FRAMING, TO THE THREE SUBJECTS OF DEFENCE, FOREIGN AFFAIRS AND COMMUNICATIONS. C) OTHER CONSTITUTIONAL POWERS OF THE CENTRAL GOVERNMENT COULD BE EXTENDED TO THE STATE ONLY WITH THE CONCURRENCE OF THE STATE GOVERNMENT. D) THE 'CONCURRENCE' WAS ONLY PROVISIONAL. IT HAD TO BE RATIFIED BY THE STATE'S CONSTITUENT ASSEMBLY. E) THE STATE GOVERNMENT'S AUTHORITY TO GIVE 'CONCURRENCE' LASTED ONLY UNTIL THE STATE CONSTITUENT ASSEMBLY WAS CONVENED. E) ONCE THE STATE CONSTITUENT ASSEMBLY FINALIZED THE SCHEME OF POWERS AND DISPERSED, NO FURTHER EXTENSION OF POWERS WAS POSSIBLE. F) ARTICLE 370 COULD BE ABROGATED OR AMENDED ONLY UPON THE RECOMMENDATION OF THE STATE'S CONSTITUENT ASSEMBLY. ARTICLE 370 AND FEDERALISM BY ABROGATING ARTICLE 370, BIFURCATING JAMMU AND KASHMIR INTO UNION TERRITORIES, THE BJP GOVERNMENT HAS USED THE POWER OF CONSTITUTIONS FOR ITS GAINS. THOUGH THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME THAT THE UNION GOVERNMENT HAS USED ITS POWERS TO BIFURCATE A STATE WITHOUT PEOPLE'S OPINION. FOR EXAMPLE, THE CREATION OF TELANGANA IN 2014 IS ONE SUCH. APART FROM THIS, THE CREATION OF THE UNION TERRITORY OF LADAKH IN ONE WAY IS CITED AS A RESPONSE TO A LONG STANDING DEMAND IN THIS REGION WHICH HAS A LARGE BUDDHIST POPULATION. BUT THE CURRENT STEP OF THE GOVERNMENT TO TRANSFER THE REMAINING PART OF J&K STATE INTO A UNION TERRITORY IS SOMETHING VERY DIFFERENT FROM THE PAST APPROACH WHICH COULD HAVE LONG LASTING CONSEQUENCES IN KASHMIR, AND ALSO STRONG IMPLICATION ON THE FEDERAL STRUCTURE OF INDIAN SOCIETY. THERE ARE STRONG ARGUMENTS AGAINST AND SUPPORTING ABROGATION OF ARTICLE 370. WHILE ONE SECTION ARGUES THAT ARTICLE 370 IS THE ONLY CONSTITUTIONAL LINK BETWEEN THE STATE AND THE REST OF INDIA, OTHER FEELS THAT IT HAS BEEN 70 YEAR OLD STUMBLING BLOCK WHICH CONTINUES TO PREVENT FROM BECOMING AN INTEGRAL PART OF INDIA. BUT THE TRUTH IS THAT EVER SINCE THE CREATION OF INDIA AND ARTICLE 370, THE KASHMIRI PEOPLE ARE SUFFERERS OF THE ISSUE.

“HUMAN DANCING SKILLS EVOLVED FROM CHIMPANZEE: STUDY” -BY ANWESHA DUTTA

HUMAN SKILLS ARE PEOPLE-SKILLS; THESE ARE ABILITIES OF THE LEADERS TO EFFECTIVELY WORK WITH SUBORDINATES, PEERS AND BOSSES. FOR EXAMPLE, THE LEADER OF A BUSINESS ORGANIZATION MUST UNDERSTAND THE OUTPUT OF THE ORGANIZATION IN TERMS OF PRODUCT OR SERVICES, WITHOUT WHICH HE CANNOT POSSIBLY UTILIZE HIS CONCEPTUAL SKILLS TO THEIR MAXIMUM ABILITY. RESEARCHERS HAVE FOUND TWO CHIMPANZEES PERFORMED A DUO DANCE-LIKE BEHAVIOUR, SIMILAR TO A HUMAN CONGA-LINE. ACCORDING TO THE STUDY PUBLISHED IN THE JOURNAL SCIENTIFIC REPORTS, RESEARCHERS FOUND THE LEVELS OF MOTORIC COORDINATION, SYNCHRONY AND RHYTHM BETWEEN THE TWO FEMALE CHIMPANZEES HOUSED IN A ZOO IN THE US, MATCHED THE LEVELS SHOWN BY ORCHESTRA PLAYERS PERFORMING THE SAME MUSICAL PIECE. OTHER SPECIES HAVE BEEN SHOWN TO BE ABLE TO ENTERTAIN BY MOVING TO THE PACE OF A RHYTHMIC TEMPO BY AN EXTERNAL STIMULUS AND SOLO INDIVIDUALS, HOWEVER, THIS IS THE FIRST TIME IT HASN'T BEEN TRIGGERED BY NONHUMAN PARTNERS OR SIGNALS, THE STUDY SAID. "DANCE IS AN ICON OF HUMAN EXPRESSION. DESPITE ASTOUNDING DIVERSITY AROUND THE WORLD'S CULTURES AND DAZZLING ABUNDANCE OF REMINISCENT ANIMAL SYSTEMS, THE EVOLUTION OF DANCE IN THE HUMAN CLADE REMAINS OBSCURE, SAID LAMEIRA, FROM THE UNIVERSITY OF WARWICK IN THE US. "DANCE REQUIRES INDIVIDUALS TO INTERACTIVELY SYNCHRONIZE THEIR WHOLE-BODY TEMPO TO THEIR PARTNER'S, WITH NEAR- PERFECT PRECISION, THIS EXPLAINS WHY NO DANCE FORMS WERE PRESENT AMONGST NONHUMAN PRIMATES," LAMEIRA SAID. ACCORDING TO THE RESEARCHERS, CRITICALLY, THIS IS EVIDENCE FOR CONJOINED FULL-BODY RHYTHMIC ENTRAINMENT IN GREAT APES THAT COULD HELP RECONSTRUCT POSSIBLE PROTO-STAGES OF HUMAN DANCE IS STILL LACKING. ALTHOUGH THE NEWLY DESCRIBED BEHAVIOR PROBABLY REPRESENTS A NEW FORM A STEREOTYPY IN CAPTIVITY IN THIS GREAT APE SPECIES, THE BEHAVIOR FORCES SCIENTISTS INTERESTED IN THE EVOLUTION OF HUMAN DANCE TO CONSIDER NEW CONDITIONS THAT MAY HAVE CATALYZED THE EMERGENCE OF ONE OF HUMAN'S MOST EXUBERANT AND RICHEST FORMS OF EXPRESSION.

“FOLLOW YOUR HEART AND MAKE IT YOUR DECISION” -BY TUSHAR SANEJA

I'LL START WITH A STORY WHICH I HEARD A FEW WEEKS BACK. THERE WERE 2 VERY INTELLIGENT GUYS STUDYING IN IIT. THESE 2 KIDS WERE VERY GOOD FRIENDS AND EXCEPTIONALLY TALENTED (OF COURSE ALL THOSE WHO GET A CHANCE IN IIT ARE EXCEPTIONALLY TALENTED). NOW AFTER STUDYING FOR 4 YEARS ONE OF THEM WENT ON TO PURSUE MBA IN HARVARD AND THE OTHER ONE GOT INTO APPLE. THE ONE WHO GOT A MBA DEGREE WENT ON TO BECOME A MARKETING GUY OF A SUCCESSFUL FIRM A FEW YEARS LATER. HE WENT TO KOLKATA FOR SOME WORK. HIS CAR BROKE DOWN AND HE TOOK IT TO A NEAR-BY GARAGE. THERE HE SAW HIS FRIEND FROM IIT AFTER SO MANY YEARS WORKING IN A GARAGE REPAIRING CARS. HE WAS SHOCKED TO FIND HIS FRIEND THERE AND WAS UNCERTAIN OF WHAT THE HELL WAS HE DOING THERE. HE ASKED HIM, “HOW COME YOU ARE HERE WORKING IN A GARAGE? YOU ARE ONE OF THE SMARTEST KIDS I KNEW IN COLLEGE & I THOUGHT BY NOW YOU MIGHT BE A CEO OF SOME COMPANY.”

WHAT HIS FRIEND REPLIED WAS,” I DID WORK FOR APPLE FOR FEW YEARS, I CAME BACK TO INDIA, MADE A COMPANY THAT MADE FUEL EFFICIENT CARS AND SOLD THAT AND THEN STARTED THIS GARAGE BECAUSE ALL I REALLY LOVED WAS REPAIRING CARS WITH MY VERY OWN HANDS.”

AFTER A FEW YEARS WHEN THE MARKETING GUY WAS RETIRING HE SAID THIS TO HIS YOUNG FRIEND, “I AM 65 YEARS OLD & I AM VICE PRESIDENT OF A COMPANY BUT MY ONLY REGRET IN LIFE IS THAT I DIDN'T LIVE A LIFE I WANTED TO LIVE BUT I CHOSE TO LIVE A LIFE THAT SOMEBODY ELSE WANTED ME TO LIVE.” THEREFORE DON'T LET OTHERS MAKE DECISIONS FOR YOU. IF YOU WANT SOMETHING, GO FOR IT. NO ONE IN THE WORLD CAN STOP YOU FROM ACHIEVING THE GOALS YOU HAVE SET FOR YOURSELF, BUT YOU. COLD FEET, PARENTS PRESSURE, SOCIETAL NORMS SHOULDN'T COME INTO THE PICTURE WHEN YOU'RE MAKING AN IMPORTANT DECISION FOR YOURSELF. IT'S NOT THEM WHO ARE GOING TO LIVE YOUR LIFE.

THIS IS THE GOLDEN PERIOD OF YOUR LIFE. YOU ARE OLD ENOUGH TO MAKE THE RIGHT DECISIONS AND YOUNG ENOUGH TO MAKE THE WRONG ONES. AGE IS IN YOUR FAVOUR. SO JUST BREAK YOUR SHACKLES AND DON'T LIMIT YOURSELF. GRAB OPPORTUNITIES TO VISIT NEW PLACES, MEET INTERESTING PEOPLE & STOP JUDGING OTHERS & YOURSELF. CREATE MEMORIES FOR YOURSELF AND BE THE BEST VERSION OF YOURSELF…

“KNOW YOUR CUSTOMERS” -BY ANUSHKA AGGARWAL

KYC (KNOW YOUR CUSTOMERS) IS THE PROCESS OF A BUSINESS VERIFYING THE IDENTITY OF ITS CLIENTS AND ASSESSING THEIR SUITABILITY, ALONG WITH THE POTENTIAL RISKS OF ILLEGAL INTENTIONS TOWARDS THE BUSINESS RELATIONSHIP. THE TERM IS ALSO USED TO REFER TO THE BANK REGULATIONS AND ANTI-MONEY LAUNDERING REGULATIONS WHICH GOVERN THESE ACTIVITIES. IT WAS INTRODUCED IN 2002 IN INDIA AND WAS MADE COMPULSORY FOR ALL THE BANKS IN INDIA BY 2004. ADVANTAGES KYC IS IMPORTANT BECAUSE IT HELPS TO CURB THE ILLEGAL ACTIVITIES AS IT HELPS TO IDENTIFY AND VERIFY THE IDENTITY OF THE CUSTOMERS THROUGH INDEPENDENT AND RELIANCE SOURCE OF DOCUMENTS, DATA OR INFORMATION. IT WILL REDUCE THE FINANCIAL RISKS OF THEIR BUSINESS ARRANGEMENTS AND WILL MAKE THE BUSINESS LESS UNCERTAIN. ALL THE CUSTOMERS WILL BE PROTECTED AND CAN TRUST THE BANKS FOR THEIR MONEY. BUT KYC IS VERY COSTLY FOR SMALL FINANCIAL INSTITUTIONS. MOREOVER, CUSTOMERS MAY FEEL THE INFORMATION REQUESTED TO BE BURDENSOME. CASE STUDY ‘MODI GOVT HAS NEW PLAN TO STOP FRAUDS LIKE NIRAV MODI, VIJAY MALLYA LEAVE THE COUNTRY’ ACCORDING TO A REPORT IN THE ECONOMIC TIMES, THE MINISTRY OF CORPORATE AFFAIRS IS SET TO LAUNCH A MEGA DRIVE TO DO A KYC OF COMPANY DIRECTORS--THAT WILL AT THE MINIMUM INCLUDE PASSPORT, PAN NUMBER AND CONTACT DETAILS. ALL OF THIS INFORMATION WILL HAVE TO BE UPDATED ANNUALLY BY THE COMPANY SECRETARY OR CHARTERED ACCOUNTANT AT THE TIME OF FILING ANNUAL FINANCIAL STATEMENTS. APART FROM THIS, THERE WILL BE ANOTHER FORM FOR THE PHYSICAL ADDRESS OF THE COMPANY, WHICH AGAIN WILL HAVE TO BE UPDATED ANNUALLY BY THE COMPANY SECRETARY. FOR FOREIGN NATIONALS, THERE WILL BE A SEPARATE FORM BUT EVEN THEY WILL HAVE TO BE REGISTERED WITH THE MINISTRY.

“PANDEMIC FROM CHINA” -BY ASHNA SUSAN VARKEY

ON THE EVE OF NEW YEAR, EVERYONE WAS HOPING FOR BETTER DAYS AHEAD. BUT FATE HAD SOME OTHER PLANS. ENDING THE YEAR WITH VIOLENT ATTACKS AT PRESTIGIOUS INSTITUTES IN INDIA AND THE AUSTRALIAN WILDFIRES, THE BEGINNING SAW THE RISE OF A DEADLY VIRUS. AN OUTBREAK OF PNEUMONIA LIKE ILLNESS STARTED AT WUHAN, CHINA. THE FIRST CASE WAS REPORTED ON 31ST OF DECEMBER 2019.

AS EXPECTED ON NEW YEAR EVE, THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE WITNESSED THE NEW YEAR COUNTDOWN IN WUHAN DISTRICT TOGETHER AND WISHED FOR A PROSPEROUS YEAR AHEAD. THE CHANCES ARE HIGH THAT THE PEOPLE WERE ALREADY CARRYING THE VIRUS DURING THAT TIME. THE SYMPTOMS OF THE NOVEL CORONA VIRUS ARE LIKE THAT. THE NEW CORONA VIRUS, NAMED 2019-NCOV, HAS ORIGINATED IN THE FOOD MARKET OF THE CENTRAL CHINA METROPOLIS. IT WAS THE FLU SEASON ANYWAY, AND THE SYMPTOMS OF THIS ILLNESS ARE COUGH, COLD, DIARRHOEA AND FEVER. YES, SEEMS LIKE A SIMPLE FEVER OR COLD, WITHOUT CAUSING ANY SERIOUS EFFECT INITIALLY. IT IS SAID THERE IS AN INCUBATION PERIOD OF TWO WEEKS, DURING WHICH THE VIRUS MAY NOT BE FULLY ACTIVE. THE VIRUS PRODUCES A SEVERE INFECTION PRIMARILY IN THOSE WITH WEAKENED LUNGS AND IMMUNE SYSTEMS, LIKE THE ELDERLY, DIABETICS AND SMOKERS. THE CITIZENS OF WUHAN ARE EXPOSED TO UNUSUALLY HIGH LEVELS OF PM 2.5, TYPICALLY 20 TIMES THE PRESENT “ACCEPTABLE” LIMIT SET BY THE ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AGENCY. THE VIRUS IS PROBABLY GOING TO BE LESS LETHAL IN LESS POLLUTED AREAS OF THE PLANET.

ON AN AVERAGE, AN INFECTED PERSON SEEMS TO HAVE THE ABILITY TO AFFECT TWO OR THREE MORE. IF WE LOOK AT THE STATISTICS, AS I AM WRITING THIS, THERE COULD BE THOUSANDS WHO ARE NOT COMING FORWARD, BECAUSE OF THE MILD SYMPTOMS AND ARE NOT AWARE OF THE SERIOUSNESS OF SITUATION. ANOTHER BIG UNKNOWN FACTOR IS THAT, WE DO NOT KNOW HOW LONG IT TAKES FOR THE INFECTED PERSON TO SHOW SYMPTOMS AND IF HE CAN PASS THE VIRUS TO SOMEONE BEFORE SHOWING THESE SYMPTOMS. IT IS SPREADING FASTER THAN THE NIPAH VIRUS AND SARS. THIS VIRUS HAS LOW MORTALITY RATE OF 2.2%, BUT IT COULD KILL MORE PEOPLE BECAUSE OF THE SPEED AT WHICH IT IS SPREADING. IT REMINDS ME OF THE MOVIE CONTAGION (20011) AND VIRUS (2019).

DOCUMENTS ARE ALSO COMING UP REGARDING MISINFORMATION ON THE VIRUS, RANGING FROM RACIST EXPLANATION FOR THE DISEASE’S ORIGIN AND ILLOGICAL AND MIRACULOUS CURE FOR THE SAME. IT IS WEIRDLY INTERESTING HOW THE MEME WORLD IS HAVING A FEAST WITH HEADINGS LIKE “CHINA, STOP EATING EVERYTHING THAT MOVES” OR “NON VEGETARIANS ARE SWEATING”. MEANWHILE CHINA IS BUSY WITH ITS BLAME GAMES AND COVER-UPS.

IT IS ALARMING HOW THIS VIRUS WAS SPREAD FROM ANIMAL TO HUMAN, AND NOW IT IS SPREADING FROM HUMAN CONTACT AND AIR TRANSMISSION. IT IS CLEAR THAT THIS VIRUS IS EXTREMELY TRANSMITTABLE, AND THIS ASSUMPTION IS PREDICATED ON THE RAPID RATE OF SPREAD OF THIS INFECTION IN CHINA. AT THE SAME TIME, WHEN THERE IS A PUBLIC-HEALTH OUTBREAK, YOU ALWAYS WANT TO SLIGHTLY OVERREACT TO MAKE SURE THAT YOU DON’T MISS OUT ON A CRITICAL ISSUE. AS OF FEBRUARY 1ST 2020, IT HAS ALREADY SPREAD ACROSS 24 COUNTRIES. INDIA JUST CONFIRMED ITS FIRST CASE IN KERALA, WHO IS A STUDENT AT WUHAN UNIVERSITY. ONE REASON FOR WHY THE TRUE EXTENT OF THE VIRUS IS STILL BEING UNDER-REPORTED IS BECAUSE OF THE LIMITED NUMBER OF TEST KITS AVAILABLE AND THE HOSPITALS HAVE TO DECIDE ON WHOM TO TEST. THE GLOBAL ECONOMY HAS BEEN HIT AND IS FEELING THE STRAIN DUE TO THIS PANDEMIC WITH A POTENTIAL 160 BILLION DOLLAR LOSS. CHINESE REGULATORS ARE TAKING MEASURES TO MAKE SURE STABILITY OF ITS $45 TRILLION NATIONAL ECONOMY, AS THE NATION STEPPED UP THE FIGHT AGAINST THE SPREADING VIRUS.

IN THE BEST CASE, FEWER PEOPLE WILL BE INFECTED BECAUSE THE EFFECTS OF THE CONTROL MEASURES HAVE ALREADY KICKED IN. IN A WORST-CASE SCENARIO, SOME 190,000 PEOPLE COULD BE INFECTED IN WUHAN ALONE. THE VIRUS HAS ALREADY SPREAD IN SMALL, LOCALIZED CLUSTERS IN VIETNAM, JAPAN, GERMANY, AND THE UNITED STATES, BUT AUTHORITIES HAVE BEEN QUICK TO ISOLATE THE PEOPLE AFFECTED. ABOUT 10,000 CASES HAVE BEEN RECORDED OUTSIDE CHINA AS OF 31ST JANUARY 2020. CHANCES OF MUTATION ARE ONE OF THE COMMON QUESTIONS WHICH COULD DRASTICALLY CHANGE THE SITUATION. BUT TILL NOW, THERE HAS BEEN NO SUCH CHANGE OBSERVED BY THE SCIENTISTS, THANKFULLY. THE CHINESE GOVERNMENT HAS IMPLEMENTED THE FOREMOST AMBITIOUS QUARANTINE IN MODERN TIMES, AS HEALTH CARE WORKERS KNOCK ON DOORS IN SEARCH OF INFECTED PEOPLE AND TRAVELLERS IN AIRPORTS ACROSS THE WORLD ARE SCANNED FOR SIGNS OF FEVER. NOW LET US LOOK AT THE PIECE OF ADVICE GIVEN BY WHO. STANDARD RECOMMENDATIONS FOR THE GENERAL PUBLIC TO SCALE BACK EXPOSURE TO AND TRANSMISSION ARE AS FOLLOWS, WHICH INCLUDE HAND AND RESPIRATORY HYGIENE, AND SAFE FOOD PRACTICES: FREQUENTLY CLEAN HANDS BY USING ALCOHOL-BASED HAND RUB OR SOAP AND WATER. WHEN COUGHING AND SNEEZING COVER MOUTH AND NOSE WITH FLEXED ELBOW OR TISSUE – THROW TISSUE AWAY IMMEDIATELY AND WASH HANDS. AVOID CLOSE CONTACT WITH ANYONE WHO HAS FEVER AND COUGH. IF YOU HAVE FEVER, COUGH AND DIFFICULTY BREATHING SEEK MEDICAL CARE EARLY AND SHARE PREVIOUS TRAVEL HISTORY WITH YOUR HEALTH CARE PROVIDER. WHEN VISITING LIVE MARKETS IN AREAS CURRENTLY EXPERIENCING CASES OF NOVEL CORONA VIRUS, AVOID DIRECT UNPROTECTED CONTACT WITH LIVE ANIMALS AND SURFACES IN CONTACT WITH ANIMALS. THE CONSUMPTION OF RAW OR UNDERCOOKED ANIMAL PRODUCTS SHOULD BE AVOIDED. RAW MEAT, MILK OR ANIMAL ORGANS SHOULD BE HANDLED WITH CARE, TO AVOID CROSS-CONTAMINATION WITH UNCOOKED FOODS, AS PER GOOD FOOD SAFETY PRACTICES. I WRITE THIS IN THE HOPE THAT BY THE TIME THIS ARTICLE IS PUBLISHED, WE GET A PROPER CURE FOR THIS PANDEMIC AND CAN TALK MORE ABOUT THIS IN PAST TENSE, ON HOW WE SUCCESSFULLY ERADICATED IT.

“POLLUTION -THE MENACE” -BY PIYUSH KUMAR

ANYTHING ADDED INTO THE ENVIRONMENT THAT RESULTS IN PRODUCING HARMFUL OR POISONOUS EFFECT ON LIVING THING IS CALLED POLLUTION. IT IS A PROCESS THAT MAKE NATURAL RESOURCES SUCH AS AIR, SOIL, WATER, LAND AND OTHER PARTS OF THE ENVIRONMENT UNSAFE OR UNSTABLE TO USE, POLLUTION CAN BE OF MANY TYPES AIR, WATER SOIL, THERMAL, RADIOACTIVE ,NOISE AND LIGHT . THE BAD AIR OR HARMFUL GASES RELEASED ARE INHALED BY EACH OF US WHILE WE BREATHE. INHALING THE POISONOUS AIR IS AS DANGEROUS AS SMOKING .NOT ONLY HUMANS ARE AFFECTED WITH THIS ANIMALS ARE ALSO AFFECTED WITH THESE POLLUTIONS AND TOXIC GASES RELEASED WASTE ARE DISPOSED OF IN RIVERS, OCEANS ACT AS POLLUTANT IN WATER . VEHICLES HORN, LOUD MUSIC CONSTRUCTION MACHINE SOUND ETC. MANUFACTURING ACTIVITIES LEADS TO RISE IN TEMPERATURE OF WATER AND LAND THESE ARE SOME CAUSES WHICH LEADS TO POLLUTION. IN RECENT THE POLLUTION IN DELHI IS FACING A PROBLEM OF MASSIVE AIR POLLUTION DUE TO WIND HAS SLOWED DOWN REDUCING VENTILATION IN THE SKY AND CROP HARVESTING HAS PEAKED IN PUNJAB BECAUSE OF WHICH FARMERS ARE BURNING OF RESIDUE TO PREPARE FIELD FOR CROP. ACCORDING TO THE POLLUTION REPORT, DELHI HAS TOPPED IN THE TEN MOST POLLUTED CITIES IN THE WORLD. AFTER THIS SUPREME COURT BANNED STUBBLE BURNING IN DELHI AND PUNJAB TO GET RID OF THIS PROBLEM CHIEF MINISTER OF DELHI HAS STARTED THE RULE OF ODD & EVEN VEHICLES. IT IS A ROAD RATIONING SYSTEM UNDER WHICH VEHICLES ARE ALLOWED ON ALTERNATIVES DAYS FOR REDUCING AIR POLLUTION LEVEL, THERE SHOULD BE A POLICY OF CREATING INDUSTRIAL SITES AWAY FROM THE CITY, NO HONKING ZONES WILL BE CREATED, PLASTICS BAGS ARE BANNED IN INDIA AND PAPER BAGS ARE USED, THERE SHOULD BE IMPLEMENTATION OF WASTE MINIMIZATION TECHNIQUES AND ADOPTION OF APPROPRIATE POLLUTION CONTROL. THE RESIDUE WHICH FARMER’S BURN CAN BE USED AS GRAZING PURPOSES, ART & CRAFT. THE IMPROVEMENT CAN BE DONE AT INDIVIDUAL LEVELS ALSO BY CREATING AWARENESS AND ADOPT THE POLLUTION REDUCING TECHNIQUES.
