North Beds and West Cambs villages are on the end of the line for broadband. Many people get less than 0.5MBs download speed. Government plans say many won’t even have a 2mb service until 2015! That’s a long time and not guaranteed. and other areas will be getting superfast broadband before we get basic services. Those few who get better services often do so at the cost of others, taking more of the scarce resource.

We got fed up with this. So we have organised services from a reputable company for the benefit of local people. It not only gives fast synchronous broadband (i.e. with equal upload and download speeds) with lower contention, but also VOIP (internet phone calls), so you can save on your phone costs. Redraw In- ternet has been providing services to business parks, remote areas and communities for more than 10 years. We have checked with other business and community users and they are very happy with the service. High speed broadband will be beamed to your area from Dean and a local technician (whom we have se- lected) will install equipment to your TV aerial mast or fit a suitable mount, then run a thin ethernet cable to a convenient power point in your home. He will install it to your PC or WiFi and configure it for you.

Stoddenworld Communications ltd. Stoddenworld Communications Ltd. was set up by by Andrew Phillips and Angus Jenkinson of to organise local financing to pay the infrastructure setup costs to bring the service here. FAQ see also www.stoddenworld.com Does it save money? For many, just getting a good service would be enough. But we think most people will also save costs. Here is why: 1) The broadband service is competitively priced with conventional broadband, but delivers much higher ser- vices than many local people and businesses get. 2) You can also save money on your phone line by switching to VoIP. This ends your line rental and reduces the cost of many calls.

What is synchronous broadband? Normal broadband is asynchronous: you typically get a 10x faster download than upload. Synchronous gives the same upload and download speeeds. Great for video conferencing, and sending or uploading larger files.

What is a VOIP phone? And if I use it, will I lose my telephone number? Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) is a way to make cheaper calls to normal and VoIP phones anywhere in the world using the interne, with the convenience of a phone handset. It’s the future now. BT & most provid- ers allow you to keep your old phone number. Moneysupermarket say “It is now difficult to tell the difference between a regular phone call and a VoIP to phone network call”. http://bit.ly/MSmslo (accessed 11/6/12) Try it for a couple of months and you should find you can cancel your landline rental and save on phone charges.

What about my BTconnect email address? Ask for the account to be downgraded to Pay As You Go and you will still have access to your BT Connect email address. As long as no other services are left on the account this will then be free of charge. Don’t forget to use your email at least once every 90 days or the account will be cancelled. Alternatively, sign up to BT’s Yahoo Premium Email Service (http://alturl. com/9ehz6). The service, priced at £1.54 a month, will allow you to access your BT account, even when signed up to another ISP. You should wait at least seven days after you have left BT to subscribe to this service (call 0800 633 5335 and select option 3). Or, find freedom: think about the benefit of a portable email address, like .me.uk, googlemail or Apple’s me.com. Better still, promote our local service. What about broadband TV? These faster speeds allow you to watch BBC iPlayer, Sky Player and other internet TV services (including those offered by several local companies). Pay perview and FREEVIEW may be available in the future.

Who is providing the service? Redraw Internet provides the WISP (wireless ISP) technology infrastructure and service.
