14 MUSIC THROUGH THE DECADES MODULE 5: THE 90s IN AUSTRALIA Song Lyrics

Hunters and Collectors: Holy Grail Woke up this morning, from the strangest dream I was in the biggest army, The world has ever seen We were marching as one, on the road to the holy grail Started out, Seeking fortune and glory It’s a short song, but it’s a Hell of a story, when you Spend your lifetime trying to get Your hands on the Holy Grail But have you heard about the Great Crusade? We ran into millions, and nobody got paid Yeah, we razed four corners of the globe, For the Holy Grail. All the locals scattered, They were hiding in the snow We were so far from home, So how were we to know, There’d be nothing left to plunder When we stumbled on the Holy Grail? We were full of beans But we were dying like flies And those big black birds, they were circling in the sky, And you know what they say, yeah, Nobody deserves to die. Oh I, I’ve been searching for an easy way to escape the cold light of day I’ve been high, and I’ve been low But I’ve got nowhere else to go There’s nowhere else to go I followed orders God knows where I’d be But I woke up alone, all my wounds were clean I’m still here I’m still a fool for the Holy Grail Oh yeah, I’m a fool for the Holy Grail Source: LyricFind 15 MUSIC THROUGH THE DECADES MODULE 5: THE 90s IN AUSTRALIA

INXS: Never Tear Us Apart Don’t ask me, what you know is true Don’t have to tell you I love your precious heart I, I was standing, you were there Two worlds collided and they could never tear us apart We could live for a thousand years But if I hurt you, I’d make wine from your tears I told you that we could fly ‘Cause we all have wings, but some of us don’t know why I, I was standing, you were there Two worlds collided and they could never ever tear us apart I (don’t ask me), I was standing (you know it’s true) You were there (worlds collided), two worlds collided (shining through) And they could never tear us apart You (don’t ask me), you were standing (you know it’s true) I was there (worlds collided), two worlds collided (shining through) And they could never tear us apart Source: https://www.letssingit.com/inxs-lyrics-never-tear-us-apart-pvxk95q LetsSingIt - The Internet Lyrics Database

Archie Roach: Took The Children Away This story’s right, this story’s true I would not tell lies to you Like the promises they did not keep And how they fenced us in like sheep. Said to us come take our hand Sent us off to mission land. Taught us to read, to write and pray Then they took the children away, Took the children away, The children away. Snatched from their mother’s breast Told us what to do and say Said this is for the best Told us all the white man’s ways Took them away. Then they split us up again The welfare and the policeman And gave us gifts to ease the pain Said you’ve got to understand Sent us off to foster homes We’ll give them what you can’t give As we grew up we felt alone Teach them how to really live. Cause we were acting white Teach them how to live they said Yet feeling black Humiliated them instead One sweet day all the children came back Taught them that and taught them this The children come back And others taught them prejudice. The children come back You took the children away Back where their hearts grow strong The children away Back where they all belong Breaking their mothers heart The children came back Tearing us all apart Said the children come back Took them away The children come back One dark day on Framingham Back where they understand Come and didn’t give a damn Back to their mother’s land My mother cried go get their dad The children come back He came running, fighting mad Back to their mother Mother’s tears were falling down Back to their father Dad shaped up and stood his ground. Back to their sister He said ‘You touch my kids and you fight me’ Back to their brother And they took us from our family. Back to their people Took us away Back to their land They took us away All the children come back Snatched from our mother’s breast The children come back Said this was for the best The children come back Took us away. Yes I came back.
