f you’re sporting a heart-rate monitor while bang- ing out your last set of push-ups in a class of three people, you’re on the cutting edge of fitness. I Even if you just manage to do one of those you’ll be on trend for 2015, a year that trainers say will be defined by a return to basic exercises and the continued integration of technology. We’re not about to say goodbye to CrossFit or high- intensity interval training, the pop stars of 2014. But health experts expect people to gravitate toward work- outs they can do anywhere and look for ways to judge their performance this year. So much of what’s anticipated to blow up in 2015 has been around for a while, but some of the following trends may play an even bigger role in your fitness routine this year:
Gym class hero Remember all of the pull-ups, sit-ups and push-ups you did in high school gym class? Those exercises that made up the Presidential Fitness Test (which I failed as a child) remain the foundation of effective workouts, said Walter Thompson, a professor of kinesiology and health at Georgia State University. Drawing and painting competition by Bharathi
Bharathi, the Indian association of Al Khor community, conducted a drawing and painting competition for children, at Al Khor recently, to mark the Indian Republic Day. More than two hundred children participated in the competition. Children were judged in four different categories. Junior students proved their talent in colouring while the senior students took up the challenge of free hand drawing and brush painting. Students were given patriotic themes as topics for their drawings and painting. Bharathi president Vishal J Mehta in his address to the students emphasised about using this kind of opportunities well and assured Bharathi’s commitment in bringing out the talents of younger generation. Magi Srinivasan, Kenet, Ashvin and Vinod from Bharathi Excom took the lead of the event. Participants were judged by Ashima Deo and Manjunath, both art teachers from Al Khor community.

had a cabbage issue as a kid. When my mother would cook it — boil the life out of it, really — the kitchen filled with that pungent smell, and it was one of the very few things I truly refused to eat. She would make stuffed cabbage, filling the little rolls with a meat-and-rice combination, nestling them in a nice tomato sauce, and I would beg her to make at least a few of them naked, without the cabbage wrapper — or, better yet, to make stuffed peppers instead. She relented. These days, I’m a brassica hound, lov- ing all members of the cabbage family: kale, collards and Brussels sprouts, too. But they’re not the only greens in my rotation.
