1971 365 GTB/4 Daytona

Ordered in December 1970, this GTB/4 Daytona was delivered to Luigi Chinetti Motors in Greenwich, Connecticut in early 1971. Soon after picking up the car, the original owner had the privilege of putting their new Daytona on display at the famed Chicago Auto Show. Shown in a brilliant red over tan with black Daytona inserts, the car undoubtedly drew quite a crowd.

Over the following ten years, the car was enjoyed by the first owner who at some point had the car’s original red exterior re‐sprayed black. In 1982, the car came up for sale through an owner in New York who described it as having low miles.

The car then disappeared until 1990 when it showed up for sale in Westlake Village, California. At this time, the car had only 1,000 miles on a full frame off restoration where the owner changed the Daytona’s color back to its original red. At this point in time, the car had logged a total of 29,000 miles. Later on in 1990, the car was seen for sale at Santa Sports Cars in Santa Monica, California where it was advertised through 1991.

In the spring of 1994, Symbolic Motor Cars of San Diego, California purchased the car with 31,190 miles on the odometer. Later on that year, Daytona 14045 moved to Ferrari of Los Gatos who advertised the car for three years before selling it to a private collection in the Pacific North West.

The Daytona stayed in that collection for the following 13 years wherein it was driven less than 1,100 miles and maintained to a very high standard. In 2010, the car was bought back by Symbolic Motor Cars who placed it up for sale with less than 4,000 miles on the frame off restoration from 20 years before.

This car is now being offered up with a total of 32,290 miles and the 25 year old restoration looking almost as fresh as the day it rolled out of the shop. The paint is in great shape and features only minor blemishes that take away little from the aesthetic beauty of this elegant . After a recent comprehensive inspection of all of the car’s systems, everything with the exception of the air conditioning is in perfect working condition. This Daytona has also recently been the subject of a complete mechanical refresh to make sure that all systems are functioning and ready to be used.

This is a fantastic opportunity to own a completely documented numbers matching 365 GTB/4 in the most desirable Ferrari color combination. Symbolizing the ultimate vintage Ferrari grand touring car, the Daytona is well known for its ability to devour thousands of miles of motorway each day in supreme comfort and at speeds many new cars would still struggle to match.

14045 is great because of the options you have: the car, how it is presented, is very close to show quality even with its 25‐year‐old restoration. That being said, with the mechanicals all having been gone through recently, the car is just begging to be filled with luggage and driven across the country.
