College Student’s INTERNSHIP Internship is an opportunity that Udhavum Ullangal offers to students interested in gaining work experience in social activities. An intern works at our organisation for a fixed period of time, usually they work at the office for just a few days or hours per week.
Internships offer students a hands-on opportunity to work in the NGO set up and provide an opportunity to understand and learn the way we work in a normal situation and in an emergency situation. Internship can be an excellent way to "try out" a certain career. We give them a certificate indicating their contributions to our work. The daily tasks of an intern can vary widely. In some internship, one may do mainly administrative tasks or run errands. But in others, you will be an important part of the team, making substantial contributions to us.

CANCER CONTROL PROGRAM
If you take care of a woman the entire nation will be taken care!
With this motto Udhavum Ullangal commenced our journey in 2011 to “Prevent and early detection of Cancer” with specific focus on Breast and Cervix. Wetook this mandate and successfully launched our Nellai Cancer Care Center with a focus on “Prevention, early detection and support programme”.
Our medical team has been trained by Cancer Institute (WIA) Adyar, under the mentorship of Dr. Shanta and the lab at Tirunelveli has been set up with the help of “Association Indian Pathologists in North America” with high quality standards for accurate diagnosis.
As per World Health Organisation, the life cycle and treatment of this disease comprises of:
Awareness, education, screening, treatment, palliative care and Hospice (for terminally ill).
So far 828 camps have been conducted, 64,640 educated, 16,500 screened and 62 treated over the last 5 years. We need to do more.
This model of Prevention and early detection through camps at rural villages, accurate diagnosis, follow up, treatment and support if extended to other places, can save many more lives. Ancillary benefit to this exercise is the creation of a Data registry, pertaining to incidence of cancer in rural Tamil Nadu. The data collected is exhaustive and scientific and hence can be suitably used for further analysis and research.

Future Plan
Cancer Hospital
Every day, 1100 people die of cancer in India. Cancer care is expensive and inaccessible in many parts of South Tamil Nadu. Because of this, poor cancer patients in these areas have to be uprooted from their livelihoods and homes to take up treatment. To alleviate the sufferings of poor cancer patients at Tirunelveli we have established cancer prevention Centre (inaugurated by Dr.V.Shanta, Chairman, Cancer Institute, Adyar. The trustees and volunteers of Udhavum Ullangal, a Chennai based NGO, witnessing distressing scenario in the lives of hundreds of poor cancer patients wished to build a modern, 100-bed, cancer care Centre for prevention, early detection and treatment.
By locating the hospital closer to the patients, Udhavum Ullangal believes to bring advanced, affordable treatment.
A Community Service Centre, in which like-minded people join together to achieve our vision, to provide job opportunities for physically impaired.
