Standard de Liège - KKS Lech Poznań Thursday 26 November 2020 - 21.00CET (21.00 local time) Match press kit Stade Maurice Dufrasne, Liege Match background Yet to get off the mark in UEFA Europa League Group D, Standard Liège are in urgent need of a victory as they entertain a Lech Poznań side who earned their first points in the section with a home win over the Belgian club on Matchday 3. • Lech had lost their opening two group games to Benfica (2-4 h) and Rangers (0-1 a), but stopped the rot last time out in their first UEFA encounter with Standard, Swedish striker Mikael Ishak scoring a second successive home double in a 3-1 win that subjected their visitors to a third straight defeat after losses to Rangers (0-2 h) and Benfica (0- 3 a). Previous meetings • Standard have won and drawn their two previous matches against Polish visitors to Liège. The draw, 0-0 against Wisļa Kraków in the 2011/12 UEFA Europa League round of 32, proved productive as it enabled the Belgian side to progress on the away goals rule after a 1-1 first-leg scoreline in Poland. • Lech lost their first two UEFA encounters in Belgium without scoring but made it third time lucky earlier this season when they won 2-1 at Charleroi in their UEFA Europa League play-off thanks to goals from Daniel Ramírez and Tymoteusz Puchacz. Form guide Standard • Standard were placed fifth in the 2019/20 Belgian First Division A when it was called to a halt in March. Knocked out of last season's UEFA Europa League at the group stage, they came through three qualifying rounds this season under new coach Philippe Montanier – all at home, against Bala Town (2-0), Vojvodina (2-1 aet) and Fehérvár (3-1) – to secure an eighth appearance in the competition proper. • The Liège club have competed in the UEFA Europa League group stage in six previous campaigns, but have only once made further progress, at the first attempt in 2011/12, when they reached the round of 16. They were also quarter-finalists in the inaugural 2009/10 season after switching over mid-campaign from the UEFA Champions League. Last season they finished third in Group F with eight points, behind Arsenal and Eintracht Frankfurt. • Standard had their 15-match unbeaten European home run (W10 D5) ended on Matchday 1 by Rangers. They have nevertheless won five of their last seven home games in the UEFA Europa League group stage (D1 L1). Lech • Runners-up to Legia Warszawa in the 2019/20 Polish Ekstraklasa, Lech thus returned to Europe after a year's absence and are now participating in the UEFA Europa League group stage for the third time. • Dariusz Żuraw's side came through four qualifying ties to reach this stage, beating Valmiera of Latvia 3-0 at home before stringing together successive away wins at Hammarby (3-0), Apollon Limassol (5-0) and, in the play-offs, Charleroi. On their group stage debut, in 2010/11, they qualified alongside Manchester City at the expense of Juventus and Salzburg before losing in the round of 32 to Braga (1-0 h, 0-2 a), whereas in 2015/16 they managed just five points and finished third in their section behind Basel and Fiorentina. • Lech's hat-trick of away wins in this season's qualifying phase followed a five-match winless streak on the road in European competition (D2 L3). They have scored in only one of their last four away games in the UEFA Europa League group stage (W1 D1 L2). Links and trivia • Standard's seventh appearance in the UEFA Europa League group stage is a record for a Belgian club, one more than Anderlecht and Club Brugge. • This is Standard's 50th match in the UEFA Europa League proper, making them the third Belgian club to reach that mark after Anderlecht and Club Brugge. 4 R.
