Blimey is it June already, how did that happen? What a wonderful month of May we had, my stand out memory has to be the crowning of Violet May Reed, our 66th Canon Johnson Sunday School Rose Queen. Violet and her family hold a very special place in my heart (as they do to so many) and I am pleased to share with you some of the speeches and pictures of the day she was crowned. I am sure I will have lots to report over the 12months about what she has been up to. I know Violet loves to spend a lot of her time outside and I pray that June brings us good weather so we can all spend time outdoors, children playing, people sitting in their gardens, the birds singing and the flowers blooming, showing off their pretty colours and filling the air with their beautiful smells. I find, and I hope everybody else does, that getting some fresh air lifts my mood and makes may day happier. Page 16 has a Spring motivational quote. I hope you all have a great June, Below are a couple of reminders of important dates. They were the band at the head of the St George's Day parade around Manchester which looking at Google maps is an approximate 2 and a half miles round trip in scorching heat. Well done all involved. 8 AN IMAGE TO COLOUR 9 Canon Johnson Sunday School Rose Queen Sunday 12th May saw the crowning of the 66th Canon Johnson Sunday School Rose Queen Violet May Reed. This is retiring Rose Queen Amy Mellor’s speech - “Reverend David, Mr. Wragg, family and friends. It doesn’t seem like 12 months ago that I was crowned Sunday School Rose Queen. The time has passed so quickly. It has been an amazing year for myself, my Retinue and our families. Without whom we would not have been able to visit so many wonderful parishes and enjoy their friendship and hospitality. In February of this year, we held our At Home. We had 11 visiting Queens in attendance. Luckily we all managed to fit everyone in and a great time was had by all. 10 As well as our Crowning and At Home, we held some other fundraising events. The Mad Hatter’s Tea Party, the December Coffee Morning in Church. Of which the proceeds were donated to buying presents for homeless children and dogs. And our Rose Queen Rocks night. We had a fantastic night and the band brought the house down!! Over the year we have managed to raise £1,700. A special thank you to all those who donated and supported us. As for my beautiful dress, I will not be saving it for my wedding, much to contrary belief. I am donating it to a charity, that makes gowns for angel babies. I have some “thank you”’s to make. My lovely Retinue. We really have had lots of fun. Jojo, Jayden, Luda, Martin, Indiya, Margaux and Edison. Thank you so much. Our families. I truly don’t know how you did it all, but thank you for making the magic happen. Mum and Dad. You are legends. Auntie Caz. Thank you for producing all the beautiful invites, posters, order of services etc.... You truly are a star. Olga, Reikha, Paul, Paula and Pauline, thank you for all your help. 11 The unofficial members of the Retinue, who attended every event and helped out. - Lily. Thank you for helping back stage. We really appreciate it. Amelia for being so funny. And Max. Just for being cute. And finally, our Commander in Chief, Elizabeth. Thank you for all your knowledge, experience and patience. But most of all, thank you for your kindness and support. We couldn’t have done it without you. And now today, I retire and Violet is to be crowned our 66th Rose Queen and makes the same promises I did 12 months ago. So as my final duty, I would like to wish Violet and her Retinue, every happiness and success in the year ahead. I truly hope you enjoy it as much we have. Thank you. Also thank you to The Beautiful Curse for rocking the house, at our Rose Queen Rocks night. It was incredibly kind of them to volunteer their time for us”. 12 13 Violet was crowned by 6th Ashton Cub Scout Leader Danielle Hyde, here is her speech - “I would firstly like to say a huge thank you to Violet for letting me be part of such a special day. I am use to see Violet covered in mud.... suspended by a climbing harness high in the air....zip lining through trees ..or swimming out of a lake having just had her Canoe capsized by her mate.... But today I'm sure we can agree she looks stunning and every bit the Queen. Violet first stepped through the doors of our scout hut on Thursday 28th September 2017. She quickly became part of our scouting family and made her Cub promise -To do her best to do her duty to God and to the Queen and to keep the cub scout law- Over her time in Cubs Violet has been on many camps, always getting stuck in to activities, looking after any- one who was homesick or worried. In fact this kindness didn't stop at her fellow scouts...it also includes Newts... On one camp in Sheffield she discovered her and her tent mates had shared their tent with a Newt for the night.
