I. INTRODUCTION

UC San Diego Health is the only academic health system serving San Diego, as well as one of only two Level I trauma centers in the region. It is run by UC San Diego and is closely affiliated with the university's School of Medicine. In operation since 1966, it comprises UC San Diego Hillcrest Medical Center, Thornton Hospital, , Shiley Eye Center, Sulpizio Cardiovascular Center, and (opening in 2016), as well as several outpatient sites located throughout San Diego County. It is the official health system of the San Diego Chargers and the UC San Diego Tritons.

The UC San Diego Health system has recently completed a new branding program which will easily identify staff, vehicles and facilities at part of the UC San Diego Health enterprise.

II. PROJECT DESCRIPTION

UC San Diego will be selecting an Interior Design firm to maintain and provide professional guidance for the finishes and furnishings referenced in the UC San Diego Health Clinical Environmental Guidelines. The newly established Clinical Environmental Guidelines are based upon UC San Diego Health branding standards. The Guidelines are to be used for new and remodeled clinic waiting room spaces within UCSD owned facilities and waiting rooms within new and remodeled leased clinic spaces.

III. SCOPE OF SERVICES

The design professional will be under contract for one year with possible two year renewal to provide material and furnishing selections as needed to maintain the established Clinical Environmental Guidelines. Services may include but are not limited to:

1. Monitoring of Clinical Environmental Guidelines and notifying the university when those identified materials and furnishings are being discontinued. 2. Monitor code changes and advice on how those code changes affect the current established material and furnishings. 3. Work with UCSD staff to select alternate materials and furnishings keeping with the design intent of the original Clinical Environmental Guidelines. 4. Collaborate with university’s Facilities Design and Construction departments and their design teams to insure proper application of Clinical Environmental Guidelines. 5. Assist with creating options of how the Clinical Environmental Guidelines can be applied. 6. Assist with implementing Clinical Environmental Guidelines in hospital based clinic waiting rooms. 7. Provide detailed drawings for installation of custom designed pieces. 8. Provide detailed specifications for approved Clinical Environmental Guideline products. 9. Maintain all digital files related to Clinical Environmental Guidelines, specifications, drawings, product literature, etc.

IV. JOINT VENTURES/ASSOCIATIONS

The University will not entertain Joint Ventures or Associations on this project.

V. CONSULTANTS

The University is only selecting the Consulting Interior Designer at this time. Any sub-consultants that may be required in order to provide the service identified above will selected at a later time.

VI. SUBMITTAL REQUIREMENTS AND SELECTION CRITERIA

The University of California, San Diego, requests the following submittal material for use in the selection of a professional design firm to perform the Scope of Services described in Section III.

A. Demonstrated experience in the maintaining and updating of environmental guidelines and brand standards for corporate, healthcare and retail clients

B. Demonstrated experience and excellence in the selection of finish materials and furnishings for a healthcare environment.

C. Full understanding of code and infection control standards related to healthcare environments. Understanding of material and furniture selection based on flame spread rating, durability, clean ability, and appropriateness for the patient needs.

D. Demonstrated experience in the selection of furnishings which are appropriate for specific patient needs (ie: orthopedics).

E. Ability to maintain and modify guidelines in AutoCad, Sketch up, InDesign and Photoshop.

VII. STATEMENT OF UNDERSTANDING

All Short-listed firms will be required to sign a Statement of Understanding. By signing the document it is acknowledged that a draft copy of the standard Executive Design Professional Agreement (EDPA) has been read, and with reservation of rights, the terms and conditions are generally agreed upon. Additionally, notwithstanding this is a qualification based selection process, it is understood that fees for basic services are expected to fall within a limited and commercially reasonable range for work as referenced in the Executive Design Professional/Fee Guideline provided to short-listed candidates.

VIII. PROCEDURES FOR SUBMISSION

Interior and Architectural firms wishing to be considered should submit electronic materials, under a coversheet, indicating their past experience in the design and renovation of university medical building interior design or other comparable institutional facilities including references, Standard Forms 330, University of California Consultant Experience Form (Attachment A) and University Statement of Qualifications (Attachment B). One electronic copy on CD or flash drive, in pdf format, should be submitted, with any graphic images, spreadsheets or pages larger than 8.5” x 11” submitted in landscape view. No paper copies will be accepted. Proposals are due no later than 4:00 p.m., Monday, June 6, 2016.
