RESOLUTION

STEVEGUTTENBERG

WHEREAS, has received a star on the World Famous on Monday, December I 2, 20 I I; and

WHEREAS, Steve Guttenberg is the star of a dozen films that have grossed a hundred million dollars at the American box-office, with Leading-man Looks and critically acknowledged comedy and dramatic chops, he has climbed his way to the top of being one of Hollywood's favorite actors; and

WHEREAS, Steve can currently be seen starring in Broadway's ''Relatively Speaking'', a collection of three One-Act comedies written by esteemed scribes Ethan Coen, Elaine May and , and directed by John Turtorro. He stars in Woody Allen's "Honey Moon Hotel" act where a wedding day goes a wry; and

WHEREAS, Steve produced and can also be seen in the indie feature, ''A Novel Romance", opposite Shannon Elizabeth and . The film won best feature at the NY Film and Video FestivaL He has also completed two independent feature productions, the German thriller, "Fatal Rescue," and his portrayal of a serial killer in "Cornered"; and

WHEREAS, Steve can be seen opposite Jessica Simpson in Millennium Films' theatrical feature, "Major Movie Star", which debuted to top box office records in Russia. Guttenberg's recent "The Poseidon Adventure," a three hour Hallmark special on NBC became the highest rated television movie in over two years and received more enthusiastic reviews than the big screen remake which followed it. Additionally, his "Single Santa" Christmas specials established themselves as the two highest rated productions ever for The Hallmark Channel; and

WHEREAS, Steve recently returned from where he was obtaining rave reviews for his comedic performance as Baron Hardup in Cinderella at the Churchill Theater in Bromley during their Legendary staging of Pantomime; and

WHEREAS, In the past year, Steve earned great reviews for his recurring guest star appearances on the hit show "." His hit features notwithstanding, Guttenberg has starred in many of television's most honored and most-watched projects, starring in "The Day After," a post-nuclear war thriller, which is the second highest rated television film drama ever and the only one of the top five all-time highest rated drama evenings that was not an episode of a smash hit mini-series; and

WHEREAS, Starring in an amazing 52 films Guttenberg's big screen successes include four fantastically successful series of films: "Police Academy," "," "Short Circuit" and 's "Cocoon" and their sequels. He has also appeared in such acclaimed dramatic hits as 's "Diner" and Franklin Schaffner's "The Boys from Brazil" and 's ''Bedroom Window.'' His television credits in addition to "The Day After," include "Miracle on Ice," in which he portrayed the goalie on the Olympic gold medal hockey team; and

WHEREAS, He has a number of directorial efforts, including "P.S., Your Cat !s Dead," the film version of the respected James Kirkpatrick play which Guttenberg also starred in, wrote and produced; and

{J1:J_ Recyc1abieafld made from recyc!ed waste. ~ WHEREAS, With all of his successful film and television work the project that remains close to his heart is the Guttenhouse project. Steve has initiated the Guttenhouse project to house selected kids who are phased out of {kicked out of) foster care programs and would otherwise wind up on the streets, no housing, no direction. His first Guttenhouse has accommodated a half dozen kids for varying lengths of time for the past seven years, giving each private bedrooms, use of computer equipment, regular oversight by a trained social worker and Steve's own mentoring. He is currently working to create his next complex to provide safe housing and sound social direction to help the former foster kids stay off of the streets; and

WHEREAS, When a foster child reaches 18, bereft of any resources or family help, he or she is often solicited by criminal elements that make it seem that the only survival options are prostitution or petty crime. Steve has started his own rescue plan with the formation of Guttenhouses, which provide free, clean and supervised living accommodations for no-Longer­ foster kids. The four young people who occupy his first such accommodation (in the Compton area) also enjoy the personal interest he takes in them and his personal time, as well as his arrangement for social worker direction and the availability of internet communication that they need. That approach will continue with future Guttenhouses now in the planning stage. He has also headed the $7,000,000 campaign to provide glasses for 50,000 sight-challenged youngsters whose families cannot afford eye care. He has headed other such important national campaigns for the Entertainment Industry Foundation. This is a man who takes his humanity very seriously; and

WHEREAS, In a Hollywood of great philanthropy, Steve Guttenberg stands out because his charitable outreach is so personal and hands-on. He was recently lauded by the Red Cross for his very personal work following Hurricane Katrina. Without publicity, he flew to Houston to become a Red Cross volunteer working 16 hours a day taking care of those that Lost their homes and families, sanitizing beds and toys, attending to children, the ill and the dying, and all without publicity. One of the great-hearted working grunts of that terrible time of need. Having learned of the hard-earned rewards of the heart from such work, he then campaigned nationally to assist the Red Cross in drawing in desperately needed volunteers; and

WHEREAS, Steve Guttenberg is not only an actor but a man whose interests Lie within the community. He understands the power of fame and wishes to use it in ways that directly Influences the way society is cultivated. With the little time he does have on his hands he enjoys the splash of waves while surfing as well as the serenity of golf. Besides the Guttenhouses Steve also runs his own production company Mr. Kirby Productions.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that by the adoption of this resolution the Los Angeles City Council along with the Mayor hereby congratulates Steve Guttenberg on this well deserved honor of receiving his star on the World Famous Hollywood Walk of Fame.

RESOLUTION

A Year of a Million Moments

WHEREAS, the Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertaimnent MILLION MOMENTS: GREAT MOMENTS, GREAT CAUSES mobile van tour donated one million moments from its robust catalog of DVDs to community investment partners 'across the country; and

WHEREAS, working in conjunction with Fox Gives, the company's philanthropic arm, the tour traveled to 18-cities over 14-weeks with the ultimate goal of donating one million movies; and

WHEREAS, the mobile tour gives film fanatics and consumers nationwide the opportunity to recreate their favorite scenes from beloved Fox movies, filmed against a green screen. The tour van will double as a dressing room trailer, complete with hair, makeup and wardrobe, giving participants the feel of really being on a movie set. Once filmed, the video clips will be uploaded to greatmomentsgreatcauses.com and will be one-click sharable across all social networks; and

WHEREAS, designed to celebrate the unique connection between a moment in film, its audience and the conversations it inspires, the Year of a Million Moments campaign allows movie lovers to experience and share the thrills, laughs and drama of real movie moments-whether ifs jumping off a building in DIE HARD, chasing after a bus in LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE or showcasing "sweet11 moves from NAPOLEAN DYNAMITE; and

WHEREAS, nearly a million DVDs nationwide were donated. Two hundred thousand of those were distributed to community partners in Los Angeles, including Boys and Girls Clubs, LA Best After School Programs, Los Angeles Public Libraries, Partnership for LA Schools, LAPD, LAFD, hospitals, Los Angeles Veteran's organizations, and countless other deserving groups; and

WHEREAS, the tour is part of Fox Studios' commitment to investing in local communities while also sharing and celebrating some ofthe Studio's most beloved films. These local non-profit groups will be able to use the DVDs for many purposes including education, fundraising, youth activities, lending, incentive programs, and as prizes and gifts:

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that by the adoption ofthis resolution, City Council of Los Angeles, along with the Mayor, City Attorney and City Controller do hereby recognize Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertaimnent and Fox Gives' Million Moments: Great Moments, Great Causes Tour for their generosity and philanthropy to the community organizations that serve us alL Further congratulations are extended for Fox Studios' innovative campaign to bring their most beloved movies to the people

SUSAN HUNTLEY

WHEREAS, Susan Huntley began her City career approximately 23 years ago. She was initially hired as a Management Assistant in the Police/Fire Selection Division of the Personnel Department. During her three years with the Personnel Department, she also worked in the areas of recruitment and employee development; and

WHEREAS, in 1990 Ms. Huntley promoted to Personnel Analyst I with the Fire Department, where she assisted the department in the areas of sexual harassment and career development. After 3 years, she promoted to a Personnel Analyst II with the Department of General Services, she provided city-wide training in the areas of procurement and warehousing; and

WHEREAS, Susan Huntley spent the subsequent eight years with the Police Department as a Senior Management Analyst I. Her initial assignment was in Internal Affairs where she was one of the first five civilians to hold the position of investigator. Susan eventually returned to the area of EEO, in the Depmtment's Employee Opportunity and Development Division. She worked for over three years as the Assistant Officer-in-Charge of the Employee Relations Section. Her final promotion ih the Police Department was as a Senior Management Analyst II in the Property Division where she served as the Assistant Commanding Officer; and

WHEREAS;)Q l'goVembet2QO'ljMs Huntley promoted to her current position with the Department of Recreation and Parks as ClliefManagement Analyst over the Grants Administration Division. Her primary responsibilities are the management of the department's grants admhlistration and grants accounting activities, for grant funds totaling in excess of $200 million dollars; and :, :'· : , ' ·· · ·· ,,

WHEREAS, during her City career, Ms. Huntley has served on the Executive Board of the Affirmative Action Association of Women for approximately 5 years and has been an active member of the Los Angeles Association of Black Personnel for approximately 18 years. During most ofher 18 year membership, she served on the Executive Board, first as a Direct-at-Large, then 5 Secretary, and as 1 \ 2nd and third Vice-President. Her most noteworthy contributions as a member have been:

e Black History Month Committee Chairperson for 8 years where she was the co-originator of our African Marketplace which recently celebrated its 1oth year

• Scholarship Committee Chairperson for.the past 7 years.

• Conducted numerous Career Development Seminars for LAABP members and other interested City employees.

• Served on the Audit Committee for the purpose of reviewing the organization's financial records.

• · Bi-Laws Committee Chairperson.

• Represented the organization on the City's Affirmative Action Association Committee

She has also been involved in other professional organizations, such as the Oscar Joel Bryant Foundation, National Forum of Black Public Administrators and Southern California Personnel Management Association:

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that by the adoption of this resolution, the Los Angeles City Council along with the Mayor, City Attorney, and City Controller do hereby thank and congratulate Susan Huntly for her more than 23 years of exemplary and dedicated service to the City and wish her many years of continued good health, success and happiness upon the occasion of her retirement.
