JOB DESCRIPTION /Periodicals

Status: Part time 24 hr week, hours vary as needed but may include nights and weekends Fringe Benefits: Sick/vacation days/IPERS; no health insurance Location: Le Mars Public Reports to: Library Director

The Periodicals librarian is primarily responsible for managing the library’s periodical collection. The management of these resources includes participation in their selection, and knowledge of print resources. Must also demonstrate the ability to work independently and in a team environment!

MAJOR AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:  Assists in managing and providing services to library patrons.  Checks out materials to patrons. Collects fines, fees and other assigned tasks at Circulation Desk  Maintain the periodical section of the library. Process new periodicals, maintain current  Will assist with cataloging of new materials  Will periodically assist with Inter-Library Loan requests  Issues and keep updated lists of periodicals purchased.  Shelves books and other materials in orderly fashion.  Provides reference services to patrons in the library or over the phone as requested.  Open, close and operate library during business hours  Performs other duties as assigned by the Library Director or other supervising staff.  Will assist children’s librarian in PK-2 programming during fall, winter and Summer Reading programs.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE  Knowledge of basic computer and internet operations.  Two year degree from accredited institution.  One year experience working in library related field.  Some knowledge of library terminology and organization.  Some experience working with young children.
