2020-21 Manual 2020-21 MANUAL 2021 NCAA DIVISION I BASEBALL CHAMPIONSHIP PRELIMINARY ROUNDS HOST OPERATIONS MANUAL - INTRODUCTION - This manual outlines the responsibilities of an institution hosting the preliminary rounds of the NCAA Division I Baseball Championship. It is essential that each host institution staff become familiar with the information and policies included in this manual. The NCAA considers this hosting opportunity a partnership between the host institution, competition site, baseball committee and the NCAA. The primary objective of each individual involved in the administration of the championship shall be to provide a memorable championship experience for each participating student-athlete, coach, institutional staff member and tournament attendee. We look forward to working with the staff members of the host institution, competition site and community to achieve the “experience” objective at an optimal and equitable level. Comments and suggested additions to this manual are always welcome. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the NCAA staff. November 19, 2013 Higgs windows to new physics through d = 6 operators: Constraints and one-loop anomalous dimensions J. Elias-Mir´oa;b, J.R. Espinosab;c, E. Massoa;b, A. Pomarola a Dept. de F´ısica, Universitat Aut`onomade Barcelona, 08193 Bellaterra, Barcelona b IFAE, Universitat Aut`onomade Barcelona, 08193 Bellaterra, Barcelona c ICREA, Instituci´oCatalana de Recerca i Estudis Avan¸cats,Barcelona, Spain Abstract The leading contributions from heavy new physics to Higgs processes can be cap- tured in a model-independent way by dimension-six operators in an effective Lagrangian approach. We present a complete analysis of how these contributions affect Higgs cou- plings. Under certain well-motivated assumptions, we find that 8 CP-even plus 3 CP-odd Wilson coefficients parametrize the main impact in Higgs physics, as all other coefficients are constrained by non-Higgs SM measurements. We calculate the most relevant anoma- lous dimensions for these Wilson coefficients, which describe operator mixing from the heavy scale down to the electroweak scale. This allows us to find the leading-log correc- tions to the predictions for the Higgs couplings in specific models, such as the MSSM or composite Higgs, which we find to be significant in certain cases. arXiv:1308.1879v2 [hep-ph] 17 Nov 2013 1 Introduction The resonance observed at around 125 GeV at the LHC [1] has properties consistent with the Standard Model Higgs boson. More precise measurements of its couplings will hopefully provide information on the origin of electroweak symmetry breaking (EWSB) in the Standard Model (SM). All natural mechanisms proposed for EWSB introduce new physics at some scale Λ, not far from the TeV scale, that generates deviations in the SM Higgs physics.

  • Report of the Ncaa Baseball Rules Committee July 17-19, 2019 Annual Meeting
REPORT OF THE NCAA BASEBALL RULES COMMITTEE JULY 17-19, 2019 ANNUAL MEETING ACTION ITEMS. 1. Legislative items. • None. 2. Nonlegislative items. The NCAA Baseball Rules Committee approved the following rules change proposals for the 2020 season. Although it is a non-rules change year, the committee requests approval from the NCAA Playing Rules Oversight Panel (PROP) for the following items since one is health and safety related and the other is regarding a proposed rule change from 2018-19 to improve the overall image of the game: a. Protective equipment (Rule 1.15.d). (1) Recommendation. To require that all catcher’s chest protectors must bear the manufacturer’s certification indicating satisfaction of NOCSAE and SEI testing standards to protect against commotio cordis. (2) Effective date. Immediately. (3) Rationale. Commotio cordis though rare, is a typically fatal condition caused by the impact of a high velocity object (e.g. thrown or hit baseball) to the anterior chest causing cardiac arrest and death. Newly developed performance standards for the NOCSAE and SEI certification testing standards for baseball chest protectors can mitigate or eliminate the risk of this preventable condition. (4) Estimated budget impact. $65-100. (5) Student-athlete impact. None. b. Twenty-second action rule (Appendix F). (1) Recommendation. To require, a 20-second action rule be administered when runners are on base. The time limit would be kept on the field base a base umpire in the same manner the current 20-second pitch clock is administers with no runners on base. (2) Effective date. Immediately. (3) Rationale. Consistent with other sports (e.g., football and basketball), baseball benefits from having action rules to speed up pace of the game.

VIA ELECTRONIC MAIL MEMORANDUM September 22, 2010 TO: NCAA Baseball Head Coaches, Conference Commissioners and Coordinators of Umpires. FROM: Jim Paronto, secretary rules-editor NCAA Baseball Rules Committee. SUBJECT: Final Rules Changes. Included with this communication are several documents that have recently been approved by the Playing Rules Oversight Panel (PROP). These rules changes and directives included will be in place for the next two seasons (2011 and 2012) as part of the NCAA’s two-year cycle for rules changes. Please share this information with any interested parties in the college baseball community. Division III institutions should note that the Panel denied a request by the committee to allow reentry rules on an experminetal basis. PROP believes strongly that the issue of rules differences by division needs further discussion and consideration before approving such proposals. Thank you for your time and attention to these documents and please contact me directly at [email protected] if you have any questions. Thank you and good luck with your preparations for the 2011 season. JP:nb Attachments NCAA BASEBALL RULES COMMITTEE FINAL RULES CHANGES – EFFECTIVE FOR 2011 AND 2012 SEASONS INTRODUCTION On September 20, the Playing Rules Oversight Panel approved the following changes that were proposed by the Baseball Rules Committee after its July meeting. One rules proposal was denied: The Division III experimental rule to allow reentry rules to be used when both teams agree. The Panel does not believe allowing divisional differences would be appropriate at this time. 1. SIGNIFICANT CHANGES. Rule 1-13c, A.R. 2: Revise to read: The pitcher’s glove must be black or brown.

Major League Baseball tests ways to speed up slow games By Bill Brink, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette on 11.10.14 Word Count 1,267 Pittsburgh Pirates starting pitcher Edinson Volquez throws against the San Francisco Giants in the first inning of the wild- card playoff baseball game on Oct. 1, 2014, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Photo: AP Photo/Gene J. Puskar SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Baseball, the only major sport without a time element, could soon be on the clock. Football has a play clock. Basketball has a shot clock. Under experimental rules Major League Baseball is currently testing in the Arizona Fall League (AFL), baseball could have a pitch clock. And a pitching-change clock. And an inning-break clock. Violations will result in automatic balls and strikes, applying a pace-of-play and penalty structure to a game played at its own pace for more than 150 years. The rule changes, born of the Pace of Game Committee departing Commissioner Bud Selig created, are intended to address the increasing periods of inactivity that some fear could turn away younger viewers. “In the major leagues is where the problem is,” said Pittsburgh Pirates special assistant to player development Frank Kremblas, who is managing in the fall league. “That’s why they’re doing it. We’re the experimental people.” Baseball games consistently have increased in length in the past few decades. The time of an average game has increased from 2 hours, 23 minutes in 1950 to 2:33 in 1981 to more than three hours this season. The first three games of the World Series took 3:32, 3:25 and 3:15.

Why did he appear at Quinn’s school? Was it to introduce young people to the magic of baseball and the optimism that spring training embodies? The timing is clear: Spring Training is about to begin and, once again, it’s magic. All you have to do is say the words “Spring Training” and serious baseball fans can feel the magic. Disclaimer: I was a basketball player. It was the only sport I was any good at, but I grew up loving baseball — I watched it ever since 1961 when my brother-in-law Joe Faletti took me and my nephews to my first Giants’ game at Candlestick Park; I listened to Russ Hodges and Lon Simmons describe it on the radio; I lived and died by the fortunes of My Giants. Baseball mattered to a kid growing up in the 1950s/60s in Antioch, CA. It became personal. [Click here for my personal, brief playground baseball history.] In baseball, the approach of Spring Training is a hopeful time — no scores yet, no losses, no strikeouts or disappointments. Even after My Giants’ dreadful 2017 season (we’re not gonna talk about that) the slate is clean and all things are possible. In 2016, my son Matt and his wife Nou took Gretta and me to our first Spring Training in Arizona.
