Hello October and Hello from your new Chapter President!

I am humbled, honored and privileged to assume the role of President of EWI of Honolulu (2015-2016). Thank you for the opportunity to lead this amazing organization.

As your Chapter President, I will continue the mission of EWI as exemplified by my predecessors, our Past Presidents and our Member Firms, without whom the many accomplishments of our Chapter would not be possible. Your commitment, dedication and support over the years are truly appreciated.

Thank you so very much to Julie Loo of Member Firm Sheraton Waikiki for hosting our 2015 Board of Directors Retreat! It was a fun-filled day in the Presidential Suite as we strategically planned the year ahead. This year we will focus on Ignite, Engage, Thrive; Your Board of Directors and I will Ignite your passion for personal development, help Engage in networking opportunities and keep our community Thriving!

Please join us at our October 14th Chapter meeting at Member Firm Outrigger Waikiki as our special guest speaker, Dr. Maya Soetoro-Ng, President Obama’s sister, shares her approach to peace building leadership. Sergeant-at-Arms – Karen Choe • There were 35 representatives and 9 no shows at the August 12, 2015 membership meeting held at the ITO Healthcare’s Malama Day Care. DATES TO NOTE • The tracking of attendance for all members has been helpful to see who is active and how many meetings per year each member attends. A September 30, 2015 Honolulu 1st 2015-16 member must attend at least six dinner meetings in order to object to a Board Meeting @ new member nomination. 5:30pm, Waialae Country Club Ways and Means – Karen Garcia • The golf tournament was a success and our net income was $39,443.86. October 6, 2015 EWI Professional We had a hole in one winner, Lester Kodama, who won $20k. Development Webinar • The committee will be recommending to the Board the dollar amount to (see flyer for details) put into the BCDP account. • Festival of Giving raised $4,000 which went directly to the B/C/DP October 14, 2015 October Membership account. This is a lower than expected turnout. Membership is at a 75% renewal rate. The Tulsa chapter has obtained 10 new members. Happy Birthday! • Proposed Budget for 2015-2016 was presented and approved. Alison Tomisato Owner Relations Manager The Howard Hughes Corporation

Alison Tomisato leads owner relations for Ward Village and develops services and lifestyle experiences for Ward Village residence owners commensurate with 5-star hospitality service standards. In addition, she consults on various marketing and sales initiatives that involve brand building, loyalty marketing and sales retention for this new neighborhood in urban Honolulu. Alison is a modern luxury lifestyle marketer and hospitality executive who most recently was Marketing and Public Relations Manager for the W Boston Hotel & Residences. In this role, she oversaw strategic partnerships, branding, crisis communications, social media & PR, special events and marketing.

Alison has spent the past decade in a variety of sales, hotel/restaurant operations, public relations and marketing roles on the East Coast. Born and raised on Oahu, the Iolani School alumna and Aiea resident recently returned home to Hawaii. In her free time, she enjoys cooking with her husband, beach days, discovering new restaurants and travel.

Mei Parrish Executive Assistant The Howard Hughes Corporation

MEI PARRISH has more than 25 years of professional experience in the administration field which has helped her develop strong business and personal relationships. Mei started her commercial real estate career in 2004 as the executive assistant for the Senior Vice President-Hawaii Asset Management of General Growth Properties (GGP), owner and operator of Ala Moana Center. In 2009, she relocated to Ward Centers (currently known as Ward Village) and in late 2010, The Howard Hughes Corporation was incorporated in connection with GGP’s emergence from bankruptcy where Mei continues her tenure as the executive assistant for David Striph, Senior Vice President.

Prior to the commercial real estate business, Mei spent 14 years in the travel industry working in various administration facets of the locally-owned company, Cheap Tickets, Inc. In 2000, Cendant Corporation based in Parsippany, acquired Cheap Tickets and in 2003 closed the Honolulu Call Center to focus on online travel services keeping the name cheaptickets.com – now owned by .

Mei was born at a U.S. Army Hospital in Okinawa, Japan where Dad, a Air Force pilot from Hawaii met Mom, a resident of Fukuoka, Japan and moved to Oahu at the age of 2. Mei was raised in Kaneohe with her two siblings and is a Castle High School alumnus. In her spare time she enjoys Friday date nights with the husband, reading, shopping, going to the beach, traveling, attending pro football and baseball games, watching UH sporting events (avid UH baseball season ticketholder), and spending time with her family, two grandsons, and hanging out with friends.

Leslie Ann Ikei Administrative Assistant Y. Hata & Co., Limited

Leslie Ann Ikei was born and raised in Aiea and is a graduate of Aiea High School. She attended Heald Business College and earned her Associate of Applied Science degree in Computer Business Administration, where she learned everything about computers and software applications in which she has applied to her everyday life functions. Leslie enjoys traveling with her husband Brandon, practicing yoga at home or in a studio, occasional hiking, shopping, and dining out. She also loves spending time with family, friends and her cute and loveable dog, Chloe.

Leslie is an Administrative Assistant at Y. Hata & Co., Limited. She joined Y. Hata in 2011 after working 7 years in the shipping industry at Horizon Lines, where she held various positions. She started in Customer Service then transitioned into Documentation in which she played a key role supporting both departments by making bookings, rating outbound shipments, reconciling and auditing invoices. Four years later, Leslie was promoted to Executive Assistant to the Vice President/General Manager for the Hawaii/Guam Trade lane, which included administrative support to Human Resources, Safety and the Sales team.

At Y. Hata, Leslie is responsible for providing administrative support to the Executive Team. She coordinates all corporate travel, assists with auditing bills and recordkeeping systems, negotiates contracts with vendors, manages the distribution of electronic devices for the entire company and often works on special projects. Leslie is a team player and is often called upon to assist on various corporate functions (annual picnic/employee & VIP lunches, etc.) because of her dependability and attention to detail. She was an instrumental part of the planning committee for Y. Hata’s 100th year centennial gala in 2013. She also assists the Marketing team with their statewide food shows, golf tournaments and sales award functions.

Y. Hata & Co., Limited is a 102 year old foodservice distributor that specializes in servicing restaurants and institutions such as schools, military, and hotels. In late 2014, Y. Hata opened ChefZoneTM, a cash and carry wholesale membership store to help small restaurant owners get what they need, when they need it at one place. Today, Y. Hata is the largest and fastest growing distributor in Hawaii’s foodservice industry.

Zuzana Hutera Macias Operational Manager – Hawaii Branch Ligs University Zuzana Hutera Macias was born and raised in Europe – Slovakia, where she obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Marketing Management. Zuzana’s career path began in the banking industry where she worked for one of the largest European bank groups. While working there for more than twelve years, she worked as Branch Manager and later became the Events Marketing Manager.

Zuzana’s interest in traveling brought her to Hawaii in 2007, where she soon enrolled as an international student to improve her English language skills. Her enthusiasm to help other international students led her to apply for work at ICC Hawaii. As a Front desk specialist/Activities Coordinator and later as a Student Residence Manager/Homestay Coordinator she was able to experience all aspects of this industry. In 2014 she traveled to the Caribbean where she co-founded the first language school on the island of Grenada. Zuzana become a part of LIGS University in July 2015 as the Operational Manager of the Hawaii branch. She represents LIGS University in negotiations with third parties, legal persons and before state bodies and other public authorities. Zuzana coordinates sales and marketing activities as well as handling acquisitions of new students.

Festival of Giving!

Festival of Giving Passports (tickets) good for discounts at over 90 merchants in

the Ward Center complex of shops and restaurants during Nov 6 – 8, 2015 Each Passport is $10 and EWI gets to keep 100% of the sales! Although participation is voluntary, we would raise $6,800 to go towards our two

scholarship programs (EWISP and ASIST) if each Representative sells 10 Passports.

• What is “Festival of Giving?” A 3-day shopping extravaganza that gives local non-profit organizations and schools a chance to

raise funds. Participating stores and restaurants provide special offers and incentives exclusively to passport holders along with great entertainment, Enter-to-Win, Gift-with-Purchase and other “passport holder” incentives. Organizations sell passports for $10 each and keep 100% of the passport sales. • When is “Festival of Giving?” Friday through Sunday, November 6 through 8, 2015, during shopping center hours. • How does my group raise money selling passports?
