HIP, HIP JOSÉ!: Marlins' manager Don Mattingly has named right-handed pitcher José Ureña as Miami's Opening Day starter. Ureña will throw the very first pitch of Major League Baseball's 2018 Championship Season, on Thursday, March 29 against the Cubs at Marlins Park (12:40 p.m.). It will be his first career Opening Day start. Ureña entered Miami's rotation on May 7 last season and went on to go 14-7 with a 3.97 ERA in 28 starts the rest of the way. From that date on, he led the National League in starts and tied for the second-most wins. CURRENT ROSTER: Miami has 42 players currently in Major League camp, including 29 members of the 40-man roster and 13 non-roster invitees. There are 19 pitchers in camp: 15 from the 40-man roster and four NRIs. There are 15 right-handed pitchers (11 40-man and four NRIs) and four left-handed pitchers, all on the 40-man. The Club is also carrying five catchers (two NRIs), 11 infielders (four NRIs), and seven outfielders (three NRIs). A NEW DAY: The Marlins enter 2018 under new ownership, led by Chairman & Principal Owner Bruce Sherman and Chief Executive Officer & Owner Derek Jeter. The ownership group, the fourth in Club history, took control of the organization on October 2 after receiving unanimous approval from Major League Owners to acquire the team.
