São Paulo/SP BRAD GILBERT (USA) Natural da Califórnia, Brad jogou profissionalmente de 1982 a 1995, conquistando 20 títulos e chegando a final em outros 20 torneios. Defendeu a Universidade Pepperdine onde foi finalista do NCAA em 1982. Entre 1985 e 1991 terminou o ano entre os 20 primeiros da ATP, incluindo dois anos consecutivos entre os top 10 (1989 - #6, 1990 - #10), e chegou ao seu melhor ranking de Nº 4 durante a temporada de 1990. Sua melhor perfomance em Grand Slam foi as 4ª de final no US Open em 1997 e Wimbledon em 1990. Brad também conquistou a medalha de bronze nos Jogos Olímpicos da Coréia do Sul e tem um recorde de Copa Davis de 10 vitórias e 5 derrotas. Após encerrar sua carreira Brad treinou André Agassi durante 8 anos (1994 – 2002). Durante este tempo Agassi ganhou 6 títulos de Grand Slam, uma medalha de ouro olímpica e atingiu o topo do ranking mundial pela primeira vez em sua carreira. Mais tarde Brad treinou Andy Roddick levando ao título do US Open e ao topo do ranking mundial. The U.S. hosts Great Britain and reigning Wimbledon champion Andy Murray in its first round matchup, Jan. 31 – Feb. 2. It will be the first time Davis Cup is played in an open air baseball stadium in the U.S. and the first time the U.S. Davis Cup team has hosted a tie on clay since the 1992 semifinals (U.S. def. Sweden, 4-1, in Minneapolis). The United States-Great Britain rivalry is the oldest in Davis Cup history, dating back to the first competition in 1900, when the U.S. defeated Great Britain in Boston. The U.S. last faced Great Britain in the 1999 World Group first round in England and won that tie, 3-2, when current U.S. Davis Cup Captain Jim Courier rallied in the fifth and decisive match to defeat Greg Rusedski in the fifth set, 8-6.
