Over 70 Aztecs Have All-Star Caliber High School Seasons Kerri Domohowski Named Emass Div New England Aztec – A History: 2006 Club News NOTE: This list represents any youth player who donned an Aztec youth jersey in the 2006-07 calendar years AND was named a high school All-Star in the fall of '06. Over 70 Aztecs Have All-Star Caliber High School Seasons Kerri Domohowski named EMass Div. 3 Player of the Year; Five Players named All-New England, 18 total players named EMass or higher All-Stars; Steve Ibanez (Danvers) NEC MVP, Barrie Lindsay (Ipswich/Waring) IGC MVP, Richie Green (Haverhill) MVC MVP, Keri Nobil (Lynnfield) CAL MVP; Ten Players make CAL All-League list The Aztec Soccer Club is proud to recognize the accomplishments of our Premier players who starred on the Massachusetts High School soccer stage this fall, in New Hampshire, and even one in North Carolina as well. In all, 71 Aztec players have thus far earned All-Star status for the fall of 2006. Five Aztecs were named MVP of their leagues. Danvers High Senior Steve Ibanez was named MVP of the Northeast Conference (NEC) in addition to being named an EMass All-Star, All-State and All-New England. While Jillian DiBenedetto was named MVP of the EIL after an All-Star season at Dana Hall, Barrie Lindsay of Ipswich and a Senior at the Waring School in Beverly was named MVP of the Independent Girls Council. Also, Richie Green of Haverhill was named MVP of the Merrimack Valley Conference, while Keri Nobil of Lynnfield was Cape Ann League (CAL) MVP. Kerri Domohowski of St. Mary's of Lynn was named EMass D3 Player of the Year, and 17 Aztecs have so far earned EMass (or higher) All-Star status with six All-State players (Domohowski, Green, Maggie Mahoney of Newburyport, Erin Quinlan of Austin Prep, Katy Lyn Verrette of Bishop Fenwick, Kirsten Lundquist of Masconomet) and five All-New England’s (Ibanez, Nobil, Domohowski, Lauren Guidi, Governor's Academy (ISL), Dana Bergstrom, Lexington Christian Academy (EIL) ). Additionally, ten Aztecs (8 girls, 2 boys) were named All-League by the CAL. The All-League list recognizes the top 14 players in the CAL. Similarly, in the MVC, the top 16 are named All-Conference, with three Aztecs earning that distinction. Twelve more Aztecs were named CAL All-Stars, three more in the MVC. 18 Aztecs were named NEC All-Stars, with more named All-Stars in the IGC, Mass Bay Independent League and Central Catholic League, plus two in Class L in New Hampshire. Three Aztecs from the Peabody High boys team were named GBL All-Stars, with one (Joe Ryan) named an EMass All-Star as one of the top seven vote-getters in the GBL (in the GBL the top seven vote-getters are named EMass All-Stars, instead of GBL All-Stars), and one girl from Cambridge in the GBL. One from Westford Academy in the Dual County was named an All-Star as well. A complete list of all is below, and the Aztec Soccer Club and Boston Aztec extend our sincerest congratulations to these bright young stars. Aztec Soccer gives players the chance to train with some of the best coaches and players in the region. We are a full- scale premier organization committed to giving players the best opportunities to succeed at the highest levels. Aztec soccer includes premier youth teams ages 7-19, the Boston Aztec WPSL Women's Team, and the Boston Aztec Men's Teams (PASL & NPSL), the PASL Indoor National Champions in 2005. Aztec Youth Profiles: Lexington Christian Academy's Dana Bergstrom & Danvers High School's Steve Ibanez The Aztec Youth Soccer Premier Club teams boast some of the most accomplished high school soccer stars in the region. Two of them have played with the Aztec U18 Boys & Girls teams, and recently completed their high school senior seasons in fantastic fashion. Dana Bergstrom, a senior at the Lexington Christian Academy, and Steve Ibanez, a senior at Danvers High School were both recently named NSCAA All-New England’s and intend to continue their careers on the collegiate stage. In addition to being named All-State & All-New England in 2006 after her standout senior year, Bergstrom is a three-time Eastern Independent League MVP and four-time league leading scorer. She was named a Boston Globe All-Scholastic three times, and is a two-time National Christian School Association All-America (third time pending). She is fourth all-time on the scoring list in Massachusetts Girls High School soccer with 119 goals and 76 assists for 195 points. Next year, she will attend NCAA D1 Syracuse University, and in the summer of 2007 she will play for the Boston Aztec WPSL squad. Ibanez, who played with the Aztec U18s last spring, is a four-time NEC All-Star and two-time league MVP who compiled 129 points in his career, including 23 goals and 11 assists this season as Danvers went 12- 6 during the regular season before falling to North Andover in the Division 2 tournament. An All-State selection as a junior, he was named All-State, All-New England and was chosen as an All-Scholastic by many news outlets, including the Salem Evening News and Boston Globe in 2006. He is as of yet undecided on his collegiate plans. Alumni Spotlight on NCAA D1 University of Delaware fullback Erin Lensky One of the top women's soccer products on the North Shore in the past few years, Erin Lensky of Marblehead has taken her game to the next level for the Delaware Blue Hens in the Colonial Athletic Association, an NCAA Division 1 league.

The John Carlton Memorial TropHies are given annually by the Boston Bruins to the outstanding female and male student athletes in MassacHusetts high school or junior hockey. The TropHies are awarded to high school students who excel in botH hockey and academics. The award is in honor of the late Bruins scout and administrator John Carlton, who passed away in December of 1982 after a long and dedicated tenure in hockey at all levels of the game. O’Connell is the 23rd female student to receive the award, and Copponi is the 39tH male recipient. BotH students were named captains of their respective teams. O’Connell finisHed her career at Algonquin a two-time Captain witH 97 goals and 32 assists for 129 points, breaking her program’s All-Time Goal Scoring record and earning the highest point-per-game average in program history.     Manchester Essex Regional High School Student Receives MIAA Student-Athlete of the Month Award Lily Athanas, a senior at Manchester Essex Regional High School, has been selected as the recipient of the “MIAA Student-Athlete of the Month Award" for September 2020. Lily was named a Manchester Essex Scholar for her commitment to taking all five core subjects at the Honors and Advanced Placement levels throughout high school and earning a GPA of higher than 4.7. Her current GPA of 5.2 was one of the reasons she received in 2019-20 the George Washington University Book Award which is awarded to a student who “embodies drive and spirit, specifically with her academic excellence, leadership outside the classroom, diversity of thought, and ability to put thoughts into action.” Additionally, Lily was the recipient of the Letters to Literature Award in 2017. The award honors students who write letters to the author of a poem, speech, or book that has affected them personally. She is a member of the STEM Club and the Spanish Club, and serves as an MIAA Student Ambassador for 2020-21. Lily is described as “intelligent, respectful, humble and always wanting to improve.” Her Principal, Tricia Puglisi said, “Lily is a true student-athlete. She excels all three seasons on the field/court as well as in the classroom. She is a fantastic role-model to the underclassman.” A three-sport captain, Lily participates in Field Hockey, Basketball and Lacrosse. Her athletic accolades include 1st Team All-Cape Ann League in 2019 for Field Hockey and 2nd Team All-Cape Ann League in 2019 for Lacrosse and Basketball in 2020.
