TOUR SUMMARY

The 2011 USA College Exposure Tour has been developed to provide Australian basketball players the opportunity of showcasing their talents to many college coaches and scouts at some of the best basketball exposure tournaments in the United States.

The tour has been specifically designed to target the NCAA “live” July recruiting period. The July recruiting period is a stretch during which college coaches travel the country and evaluate prospects at various sanctioned events. These tournaments allow coaches to evaluate hundreds of players at the one time. On the inaugural tour last year, 42% of players received joxygen.wordpress.com college scholarship offers. Therefore, the overall goal of the tour is to in creating a pathway for players who want to play college basketball whilst continuing their education through the U.S college system.

There are a number of divisions in the US College system that varies depending on educational requirements, size of the school and sports participated in. With well over 1,000 schools, the largest athletic association is The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). The NCAA is made up of three divisions – Division I (approx. 330 schools), Division II (approx. 290 schools) & Division III (approx 440 schools). Only Division 1 & 2 colleges offer full and partial athletic scholarships whereas Division 3 programs can only offer only

As well as the NCAA, there is The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA). The NAIA consists of schools that are smaller to that of NCAA schools but do offer four year degrees and scholarships. Junior Colleges are two year community colleges that deliver preparatory courses for further university study. It‟s important for players to consider all levels of schooling in the United States, not only NCAA Division 1 as there are a lot of scholarship opportunities available.
