36YEARS

JOE BERTAGNA, DIRECTOR Widely considered one of the most influential goalie coaches in North America, Joe Bertagna celebrates 36 years of coaching in 2009. Joe began directing summer goalie schools in 1974 and continues this summer at seven different rinks. He is also active in-season with small-group in- struction, holiday clinics, and providing services for various youth programs in New England. His writings and DVDs have helped thousands of goalies and their families. The ’ goalie coach for seven seasons, Joe also served in that capacity with Team USA in the 1991 Canada Cup and 1994 Olympic Games in Norway. The first head coach of Harvard University’s women’s program, Joe is also involved with hockey clinics aimed at adult women players. His spring clinic for adult women moves from Burlington to Bedford this year, with ten Monday nights beginning April 13. Joe has served amateur hockey in a number of roles, most notably in his regular jobs as the Commissioner of the men’s and women’s Division I college hockey conferences and as the Executive Director of the American Hockey Coaches Association. Joe represents college hockey on USA Hockey’s Board of Directors.

SCHOOL FORMATS Joe Bertagna is again offering a variety of goalie schools in the summer of 2009, along with a general Spring Monday Night Hockey Clinic for adult women. The standard summer goalie session consists of a half-hour lecture/classroom session, followed by two hours on the ice. In addition to the traditional Monday through Friday goalie schools (including an all-female week), Joe is offering 4-day and 3-day options as well. See attached for details.

GOALIE AGE GROUPS Senior sessions (“SR”) are designed for 12 years and older, including adults. Junior sessions (“JR”) are designed for 11 years and younger. The coach-goalie ratio is never less than 1 to 4. A “12” could be considered for the younger session upon request.

Each Camper receives a mesh jersey and a free gift hat. All goalies will use the Boni Goalie Trainer (puck-shooting machine) and a Lobster Tennis Ball Machine. THE BERTAGNA GOALTENDING PHILOSOPHY Joe Bertagna believes in emphasizing the mental aspects of playing goal, while covering all fundamentals on the ice as well. While the game has changed over the years, the importance of positioning and rebound control remain the building blocks of the position. Goalies will receive age appropriate instruction from New England’s best staff.

“Positioning and anticipating are the keys to good goaltending. Knowing ‘how to play goal’ is as important as physical skills.”

THE STAFF Joe Bertagna will be present at each school. A graduate of Arlington High School and Harvard University, Joe is considered one of the premiere goalie coaches in the United States today. In addition to Joe, more than 20 other coaches will work during the summer of 2009, many drawn from the high school and college ranks, as well as from active college and professional goalten- ders. The Marlboro Camp will be co-directed by Mike Geragosian and John Binkoski, two of the area's more experienced goalie coaches. Joe’s ability to attract college and professional goalies to the staff insures that the most current techniques will be part of the curriculum. Some of the other coaches who worked last year’s schools are listed below:

Bob Bartholomew, Arlington H.S. Coach Bob Conceison, Burlington H.S. Coach Kelly Dyer-Hayes, Former Northeastern, Team USA Goalie Dov Grumet-Morris, Europe League Goalie (Formerly Harvard) Chanda Gunn, U.S. National Team Goalie Andrew Huntoon, Bertagna Staff Bruce Irving, Harvard University Goalie Coach Kevin Morrison, Bertagna Senior Staff Mike Morrison, Europe League Goalie (Formerly NHL/Maine) Brion O’Connor, Bertagna Senior Staff Melissa Pacific, Former Ohio State Goalie Mo Randall, Roxbury Latin Shool Coach Kevin Regan, (Former UNH Goalie) Molly Schaus, Boston College Goalie Matt Underhill, Former Cornell U. and Pro Goalie
