Wife, mom, taxi driver, cheerleadereven co-owner of a concrete business. That’s “retirement” for Annika Sorenstam, and that’s just how she likes it. Sorenstam walked away from the LPGA Tour at the end of the 2008 season, arguably at the top of her game. She ended the year at No. 3 in the Rolex World Rankings, won three tournaments and finished tied for seventh in her final tournament, the Dubai Ladies Masters. Her professional career wrapped up with a total of 93 wins (72 on the LPGA Tour, 17 on the Ladies European Tour), 10 majors and three ANA Inspiration titles. Yet even as she announced her retirement in May of 2008, her ultra-active future was already in place. In fact, she cited her Concrete, which produces a protective and draining sub-base for willingness to transition into the business, philanthropic and sports areas. “I would say I love to stay busy, I love doing things,” Sorenstam says. “That’s one of the reasons I don’t miss competitive golf, because I have so many other things going that I like. If I didn’t have that, I’d probably be sitting at home wondering what life on tour would be like. So having all theses balls in the air is fun. I’m learning a lot about a lot of different things. Kids certainly challenge you, so it’s just a different type of life, a different chapter of my life. “ Upon learning about Sorenstam’s post- LPGA lifestyle, most are inclined to wonder how she does it. Sorenstam says it helps to simply be that type of person— one who loves to work, loves to learn and loves to stay busy. She also says time management is crucial to getting it all done, along with the ability to compartmentalize her focus, taking on one task as a time and business trips to 24-hour affairs, with a goal of being home for But as her kids get older, she wants to spend more time with thinking of nothing else. bedtime or, at the very least, home in the morning in time for them. “I want to be there, I want to learn with them and help them “Time management is very important breakfast and a quick shuttle to school. Current plans call for redesigned and repositioned workout spaces and new spaces for spin and Pilates classes. Conroy expects that phase of construction to begin within the next 12 months, during a time that will cause the least amount of inconvenience for members. “I think the feeling of it is [that members] love their environment pre- and post-golf round, tennis match, workout time, etc. It’s just so much nicer. The average age of golf members who have joined over the last 14 months is 52, a clear indication that the club is attracting a younger set. “The vibe has totally changed,” Conroy says. “Our evenings now are much more social. Before, they just followed the sun; when the sun when down, that’s when they left.” Along with the renovation, Conroy says there are additional reasons the club is attracting younger members and families. He points to the fact that Mission Hills is not just a golf club but also a country club, with all the traditional country-club amenities. “We’ve got three golf courses, 33 tennis courts, pickle ball courts, a fitness facility and kids programming, so we’ve got a lot of activities available for young families to take advantage of.” Rancho Mirage High School has also been a huge benefit to the club. “The high school has been open for three years now,” Conroy says. “It’s a $115 million high school and it’s beautiful. Paradisus Los Cabos

Diamante Dunes Club

et at the tip of the Baja Peninsula where the Sea of Cortez and Pacific Ocean meet, Los Cabos is a destination with two distinct towns connected by a 20-mile corridor filled with resorts, golf courses and Baja’s compelling natural desert and marine ecosystems. Cabo San Lucas, to the Ssouth, is as famous for nightlife as for sport fishing, restaurants and shopping. San Jose del Cabo, on the north/west end of the corridor, is a bit more serene with history, authentic Mexican culture and unspoiled nature among its attributes. Los Cabos at its core is about doing and experiencing. Deep-sea fishing, phenomenal golf and tennis, nature, ATV and horseback adventures, surfing, kayaking, whale watching and cultural explorations are all available. Of course, relaxing is a vacation must, too, whether that means strolling on a beach at sunset or indulging in treatments at one of the area’s opulent spas. Resorts range from moderate to high-end luxury with all the amenities. Some, including Paradisus Los Cabos, are in San Jose del Cabo (with one of the area’s few swimmable beaches). Others, such as Pueblo Bonito Pacifica Golf & Spa Resort, are located in lively Cabo San Lucas, but set on a secluded stretch of sand. Still others, Sheraton Hacienda del Mar among them, lie along the corridor, with easy access to golf and more.

Black and blue marlin run July through October, while dorado stay on through November. Yellow fin tuna are prevalent September through January, and the warmer waters of summer and early fall bring the challenge of wahoo and sailfish. For a chance at hammerheads and makos, arrive in winter or early spring. Two well-known outfitters to contact are Pisces Sportfishing and Picante Sportfishing. By Alison Elsner

Fresh off the 2017 Fashion Week runways in New York, London, Paris and Milan, summer and fall jewelry trends have emerged with a shiny vengeance. Designers are touting sparkling variations on forms such as cuff bracelets, ear cuffs and crawlers, chokers, colored gems and big, bold, chunky statement earrings.

REPOSSI

Creative director Gaia Repossi joined the family business (which originated in Italy) at House of Repossi on Place Vendome, Paris, in 2007. Her progressive sensibilities are evident in her minimalist designs, which are said to evoke the modernism of designers such as Le Corbusier. She collaborates frequently with such fashion leaders as Alexander Wang and Joseph Altuzarra, and she has said that she tries to bring “renewal in the designs that should appeal to future generations.”

White Noise Cuff

The White Noise Cuff is a fluid yet angular creation of undulating lines. Crafted with pavé-set sparkling white diamonds (2.26tcw.) set in polished 18K pink gold, the wide cuff is a perfect example of why Gaia Repossi’s designs have become so trendsetting and popular with celebrities, including Dakota Johnson and Michelle Williams. The White Noise Cuff may be purchased for $40,600. El Paseo Jewelers

Accented with pavé white diamonds at each hinged, circular end (.14tcw), Repossi’s designer name stamp is visible at the back spine of the gold cuff. This clip-on piece may be purchased for $24,720. NYC Coral and Amethyst Cuff Bracelet

Anyone who wears the Margot McKinney NYC Coral and Amethyst Cuff Bracelet is probably afraid of very few things in life. Part of the NYC Collection, the cuff is formed by positioning 106 faceted oval amethysts (161.61tcw.) over polished 18K yellow gold. The stones surround a prong-set, oval coral cabochon centerpiece (42.35tcw.). This cuff retails for $55,500. Berbere Module Hinged Bracelet

The designer’s Berbere Module Hinged Bracelet is crafted of polished 18K pink gold. From the Berbère Module Collection, the five-band hinged bracelet is embellished with channel-set Cookie Mixed Sapphire and Pearl Drop Earrings white diamonds at the two larger bands. Repossi’s focus on architectural and minimalist elements emphasizes the contrast The Cookie Mixed Sapphire and Pearl Drop Earrings are between the smooth gold and the angular diamonds, which add another collaboration of stones harmonizing together to contrast and volume, two of Repossi’s trademarks. These hanging wonders are available for $22,500. White Noise Choker

Repossi’s White Noise Choker, a sculptural study unto itself, is ideal for formal affairs, weddings or even cocktail parties. Intended as a form of Where to Find Your Own Statement Jewels body art, the line was inspired by how we might imagine “white noise” REPOSSI would “look” in our mind’s eye. Actress Emma Stone was photographed wearing this piece at the Cannes Film Festival. The 11-inch choker repossi.com, barneys.com easily slips on and off. The designer’s Peridot Paradise Collier Necklace is a delightful concoction of diamonds, sapphires and more—much more. At the center is an exceptional Burmese peridot pendant (16.25tcw.) surrounded by prong-set, cabochon-cut Paraiba tourmalines (246tcw.), Lightning Ridge opals (22.19tcw.), green tourmaline (13.06 tcw.) and naturally colored, cultured South Sea pearls. This stunner is 19-inches long with a two-inch center drop, available for $675,000.

Carnivale Denim Blue Topaz Earrings with Diamonds

Just like a party in progress, the Margot McKinney Carnivale Denim Blue Topaz Earrings with Diamonds are, not surprisingly, from the Carnivale collection. Also for pierced ears, a round post is set with diamonds (0.95tcw.) and multicolor sapphires (5.71tcw.) that look like confetti settled atop a blanket of 18K yellow and white gold. This burst of energy finishes with a denim-blue topaz cabochon drop. Your invitation to this party hosted by your earlobes will run you $26,500.
