Fulham College Boys inspire creativity

A New Tomorrow for Fulham Cross Girls’ School

Construction in Action with Welcome t Fulham College, we have had a full and rewarding summer term with lots of academic successes and enriching extra-curricular activities. A I am very proud of the Key Stage 4 and 5 students who have sat exams across the College; these will open the doors to their futures and I’m excited about where they will end up next! To celebrate their graduation from the College, Year 11 Proms were held to recognise their successes and to give them a very glamorous send-off. Key Stage 5 students enjoyed a graduation ceremony and a lovely meal. Students on both sites have continued to demonstrate their leadership abilities, with ACHIEVE, CREATE and EMPOWER leaders supporting with Primary visits, parental visits, parents’ evenings and celebration evenings. It is extremely pleasing to hear visitors comment on the professionalism Peter Haylock of our students and to see them embody our ACHIEVE, CREATE and Executive Principal EMPOWER values. We’ve continued to build upon our creative and team building skills in our termly ACHIEVE, CREATE and EMPOWER days. Across both sites we worked with Prison Me No Way, and at the boys’ we’ve had visits to The Natural 2 History Museum and The Science Museum. We’ve explored the using the MBNA Clipper, been trampolining and looked at the challenges of maths in the real world! We have had a lot of sporting successes this term, most noticeably our Year 9 and 10 football teams playing in the borough league finals at QPR football ground. We’ve also enjoyed playing a new sport this year, Jag Tag, with the support of the Jacksonville Jaguars. We have also seen the girls showcasing their performing arts skills at International Evening and in the summer production of ‘Annie’. Students at the Enterprise Studio have developed their international links by undertaking a joint project with students from Denmark, conducted through Skype interviews and shared Contents project briefs. I’m also immensely proud of the students across the college who have Fulham Cross undertaken their Duke of Edinburgh Bronze and Silver Award. A lot of Girls’ School 4 planning, determination, resilience and time is needed for the expeditions to be successful and I am delighted that our students hold these attributes. An external company (TalentED) has been working with a cohort of high aspiring Year 10 pupils every Tuesday at Fulham Cross Girls’ School and Wednesday at Fulham College Boys’ School for the past academic year. The Year 10s were placed in small groups, each group working with a mentor and an undergraduate from a University. SOAP MAKING! Year 8 designed a range of new brands of soap and bath bombs for their Empower day. Students were given the brief to design a new brand, deciding their target audience, costings, manufacturing of the products and also marketing information. All pupils pitched their ideas to other students in their forms to have a winning group from each form group. The students thoroughly enjoyed it, especially the making of the products. In the words of the girls, the science rooms at the end of the day were left smelling lush! DESIGNER EXPERIENCE GCSE Product Design students recently visited “Escape Studios” a Design/ visual effects studio in Shepherds Bush. Students gained the opportunity to meet with design professionals and discuss with them career routes into design industries as they consider their further educational choices. Sir Jack Petchey himself has a ‘rags to riches’ story and believes that people should think of others and give back to society, no matter how small an act of kindness or generosity. He wants young people to know that in giving, you also receive and the world is a better place for it! This terms awards went to Sophie in Year 12 and Steffen in Year 10. Construction students across all year groups have been taking part in a range of site visits courtesy of the construction company St George. Year 10 students got to enjoy the view from a £17 million apartment on the 10th floor at Chelsea Creek, whilst Year 12 students got a tour of the newest block at Fulham Reach, next to Hammersmith Bridge. Students got to speak to a range of professionals about the range of jobs available to them and the educational paths that they would need to follow to secure them.
