2 ST2 Access Improvement Projects “Access Improvements projects, approved by voters in 2008 as part of the 2 ballot measure, will improve access, whether you’re walking, biking, driving or riding local transit to Sounder.”

3 • Project purpose: Improve reliable access to the Sounder Station to meet increased demand.

• Project scope: Parking garage, Pedestrian bridge, intersection upgrades, surface parking and non- motorized improvements.

Puyallup Sounder Station

4 Introduction • Sounder Puyallup Station Ridership: • Pre-COVID average 1,651 boardings (Q2 2019) • COVID average 211 boardings • Stall count (current) • 366 existing stalls, surface lots within station area (N &S) • 219 stalls at Fairgrounds - Red Lot (20-yr easement) • 585 total stalls • Stall count (future) • Existing 585 stalls - surface lots (Station area and easement) • New 5-story, 511 stall garage • New 164 stall surface lot • 1,260 total stalls

• Artist selection panel of community representatives that included artists, arts commissioners, and designers recommended a native artwork. • STart also engaged the Puyallup Tribe to approve an artist that could best reflect their culture. • Artist Shaun Peterson was chosen to create a permanent artwork for the garage. • The artwork will be the first large public art “Mother and Child” 6'h x 6'w x 3/8"d installation by a Puyallup artist in the city Powder coated aluminum of Puyallup. 18 Access Improvements

City delivered non-motorized access Improvements • Design & constructed by City, funded by Sound Transit ($3.8M reimbursement through the Development Agreement) • Street lighting, curb ramps, pedestrian crossing safety improvements, bike lane • City has programmed the access improvements into their capital program and schedule implementation. The plan is updated annually. Access Funds, 2019 Award • City received additional ST funding of $154,000 allowing for greater improvements towards access to transit – Bike lane improvements
