Lady Margaret Boat Club - Men’s Head Coach

Job type: Part-time, self-employed

The Lady Margaret Boat Club is looking for a Head Coach for the Men's squad from the start of the 2017-8 season.

Lady Margaret is the rowing club of St John’s College , recognized for its distinctive red blades and legendary “Blazers.” Its Men’s 1st boat is currently Head of the River in both the May and Races and recently won the intercollegiate Oxford-Cambridge race at Henley. The Men’s 2nd Boat is the highest placed 2nd Boat among the Cambridge colleges by eleven places and competes in the 1st division of the Mays. Both crews regularly enter external regattas, competing at IM1/2 level. The Men’s 3rd boat is seven places ahead of any other college 3rd boat.

Lady Margaret operates out of its historic boathouse on the next to Victoria Avenue Bridge and is one of the largest and best-supported clubs on the river. The club is keen to build on its recent success by appointing a new Head Coach to work alongside the College Boatman in developing an inclusive squad of male and female athletes who all share the club’s values of honesty, humility and courage.

Time requirements: Up to 24 hours per week during full term (3 x 9 weeks) and 36 hours per week for two week-long pre-term training camps in January and April. The selected Head Coach will receive an all-inclusive fee of £3,000 per term. Accommodation is available in St John’s College if staying overnight.

This role has been identified as involving access to vulnerable adults and/or children and therefore full DBS clearance will be required.

This is a rare opportunity to coach one of the most famous and successful boat clubs in Cambridge.
