East end of the north transept Side Altar in memory of the parishioners of Algarkirk who lost their lives in the Great War, memorial tablet on east wall above altar. Altar to be of carved oak to the design of Messes Taylor and Son of Stamford. Tablet of marble in oak frame about 3feet 9 inches by 3 feet. Inscribed: -

2 The following is a brief review of those commemorated on the memorial to the fallen of the Great War 1914 – 1918 inside Algarkirk parish church. . Personal details are from the Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC) and the reference book ' Soldiers died in the Great War'.

C.A.DUNHAM this is thought to be Charles DUNHAM Gunner 161824 Royal Garrison Artillery, 208th Siege Battery, born at Frampton Marsh, enlisted at Boston and a resident of Kirton, killed in action 4th November 1917 and buried in the Menin Road South Military Cemetery.

George GOSLING Private 13747 of the 1st Battalion Regiment, the son of George D and Amelia Gosling of Algarkirk born at Butterwick, enlisted Boston; K.I.A. on the 16th June 1915 aged 19, has no known grave and is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial

John Thomas HOLMES Private 201498 7th Battalion Lincolnshire Regiment, the son of Mrs. H. Holmes, Workhouse Lane, Algarkirk, enlisting at Stamford and resident in Algarkirk, K.I.A. on the 5th September 1918 aged 20 and interred in Lebucquiere Communal Cemetery Extension, Pas de Calais, France.

Alfred KITCHEN Private 15214 6th Battalion Lincolnshire Regiment, the son of Robert and Susannah Kitchen of Algarkirk, recorded as being born at , enlisting at Boston and a resident of Algarkirk, aged 22 when he died of wounds received and is buried in Loos British Cemetery, Pas de Calais

Stanley KITCHEN, Private 60122, Machine Gun Corps (Inf), 119th Coy formerly 26872 Lincolns, born at , enlisted Lincoln and resident Boston, K.I.A.4TH May1917, he has no know grave and is commemorated on the Arras Memorial, Pas de Calais.

George William LUCAS, C.S.M. 26569 Machine Gun Corps, 47th Coy, formerly 7138 East Surrey Regt., he was the son of the late William and Susannah Lucas, born at Sibsey, enlisting at Hounslow, Middlesex and a resident of Boston, killed in action on the 9th of September 1917, he too has no known grave and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France.

G.W.MOULDS is thought to be George William a Private 6394 1st Battalion Coldstream Guards who was killed in action on the 25th October 1914, recorded as being born at Spalding enlisted Boston and resident in Barnsley, Yorkshire, interred in Perth Cemetery (China Wall) Ieper (Ypres)

James SHARMAN Lance Corporal 200873 4th Battalion Lincolnshire Regiment is believed to be the J. Sharman on the memorial, he enlisted at Lincoln being K.I.A. on the 15th April 1918 and commemorated on the Ploegsteert Memorial, Comines- Warneton, Hainaut, B.

George Edward VINE WAS Lance Corporal 203504 1st/4th Bn. K.O.Y.L.I., formerly 4042 Northumberland Fusiliers, the son of John Henry and Harriet Vine of Lees Farm, Algarkirk, Born at Frampton and enlisted at Boston, he died of wounds on the 10th of October 1917 and is buried in Nine Elms British Cemetery, Poperinge.

3 G. WILKINSON is possibly George, Private 12156 1st Bn Lincolnshire Regiment, born at Hubbards Bridge, enlisting at Boston and a resident of , died as a prisoner of war on the 13th November 1918 and interred in Niederzwehren Cemetery, Kassel, Hessen, Germany.

A.V.WRIGHT is Arthur William 15217 2nd Bn. Lincolns, born at Algarkirk enlisted at Boston and resident in Lincoln, he was killed in action on the 21st of April 1917 and commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial.

J.H ASKEW, C BARNES, W FEATHERSONE and E SHAPLES have not been identified

William Edward ADDINGTON, Sapper, 1873985, 35 Fortress Coy, Royal Engineers, born Lincolnshire and resident Nottingham, he was the son of Ada Addington, of , Lincolnshire. Aged 26 when he lost his life on the 29th September 1944 and is commemorated on the Singapore Memorial, Column 40.

Sidney G EDWARDS, This is thought to be Sidney George, Private, 4804462, 2nd Battalion Lincolnshire Regiment, born and resident in Lincolnshire, Son of George and Mary Edwards. Killed in action 29th May 1940 aged 21 and commemorated Column 45 on the Dunkirk Memorial

Francis James MEEDS, Private, 14516383, 2nd Battalion East Yorkshire Regiment, born and resident Lincolnshire. Son of William and Alice Meeds; husband of Grace Meeds, of Algarkirk, Lincolnshire. Aged 26, Date of death 9th November 1944 and buried Nederweert War Cemetery, Limburg, Netherlands.

George William PALMER, Flying Officer (Air Bomber), 153386, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, 166 Sqdn. Son of James and Frances Lucy Palmer; husband of Sybil Eileen Palmer, of Weston, Lincolnshire. Died 27th August 1944 aged 29. Buried Gammel Rye Churchyard, Jutland, Denmark.. Took off 2045 26th from Kirmington in Lancaster III LM694 AS-M2 for a Gardening operation in the Bay of Danzig. Crashed at Rye with the loss of the whole crew. Page 399 Bomber Command Losses 1944 by W.R.Chorley.
